We want to thank Jeffrey Augustine for bringing our attention to this gem. It’s an iron-on heat transfer — the kind of thing you use to customize a T-shirt — with a slogan that the Church of Scientology is not going to appreciate. But the best part? It’s on sale at the website of Sears. Yes, Sears!
It was just last month that Sears got into hot water for allowing a third party vendor at its website to sell rings emblazoned with swastikas. After a social media firestorm, Sears apologized and took the rings down.
And now, the Sears website features this iron-on heat transfer from vendor 3dRose, which says it’s from the Mark Andrews ZeGear Cool line. It reads, “Scientology — Making eccentrics pay for God since 1952″…
We’re so entertained, we’re not even going to nitpick that “God” has nothing to do with Scientology!

Bunkerites — we love the free-wheeling conversations that take place in our comments section. It turns out, however, that they are having some effect on our ability to defray our modest costs here.
Some of you may have noticed that we do not have an ad in the upper right of the page that is usually delivered by Google’s ad service. It turns out that Google, for whatever commercial reasons it deems prudent, has pulled the ad because of “mature content” on our website.
Since we never post mature content, we can only conclude that it relates to material that has been appearing in our comments section.
The ad we were running allows webmaster Scott Pilutik to pay for our bandwidth and other technical needs. Over the two years here in the Bunker, he has changed servers multiple times so that we have a super-stable platform that performs quite well.
We are trying to figure out what content Google objects to. It’s an ongoing process, and we have appealed and been denied multiple times. For now, Scott has set Disqus to catch a certain amount of off-color talk. Our commenters had noticed this before we were even aware of it. We ask that you use your intelligence and wit to make adult observations without the crutch of base vocabulary.
We’re not happy about these restrictions. But as long as sites like Google maintain such a stranglehold on commerce, we have little choice than to comply.
