And the ashtray was out of my reach and I had my cigarette and I was about to light it and I was looking around for an ashtray. And the ashtray came over, bzzt!, and I dropped a match in it. The thetan was just being polite, that was all, and had never thought twice about it. And I said, ‘Thank you,’ and the person became very confused. Ron Hubbard managed to hold all those years because of people that have decided to devote a lot of hours a day for his technology and for it to work, so why aren’t we doing the same?”

1996: The Scientology org in Portland, Oregon was attacked this week by a gunman who shot four people and started a fire with a can of gasoline. The Associated Press reported: “Jairus C. Godeka, 38, who was under court order not to have any contact with the church, surrendered after walking out with a female hostage who was heard shouting: ‘Don’t do anything. He’s got a gun to my head.’ Police talked Godeka into releasing the woman unharmed and dropping his gun. Another woman, who is at least four months pregnant, was shot in the shoulder and hospitalized in critical condition. Firefighters found church worker Helen Burke, 44, hiding in a stairwell. The center’s executive director was in fair condition with a wound to his right side and another man was in serious condition with a wound to his chest. The fourth victim was treated for a wound to his buttocks and released. Firefighters quickly put out the blaze, which did not cause serious damage. The man had carried a 1-gallon can of gas and ignited the floor near a reception desk. Godeka was arrested on charges of attempted aggravated murder, arson, kidnapping, assault and burglary. The church, however, denounced it as a hate crime. ‘There’s a lesson here, and the lesson is about the damage religious hate mongers cause,’ said a statement issued by the church’s Los Angeles office.” The Portland Oregonian ran a profile on the suspect. “He came form Kenya in 1979 to ‘accomplish something in America,’ he said, his hopes fueled by high expectations from friends and family. But Jairus Godeka felt his dream fade to ‘gloom and doom,’ after he was introduced to the Church of Scientology in 1980, he told police. Interviews with friends, acquaintances and former in-laws, and an examination of police records, reveal a man who was hard-working and earnest but whose past is plagued by alcohol abuse, violent behavior, a broken marriage and financial problems. They also show a man obsessed by the belief that his troubles all stem from the Church of Scientology. A judge entered a not-guilty plea for Godeka Thursday, after he was arraigned in the Justice Center in Portland on charges of attempted aggravated murder, arson, kidnapping, assault and burglary. The turn of events shocked at least one friend, who described Godeka as a gentle man who was “mild-mannered and had a great desire to please everyone’ – someone who was far from crazy and worked hard to make a fledgling business successful. In a long, sometimes rambling statement to police in February, Godeka detailed a variety of grievances he had with Scientology and said how for years he felt the organization should be made to pay $50,000 for ruining in life. Born in Kenya in 1958, Godeka said he came to the United States on a visa. Godeka’s in-laws, who asked that their names not be used, said Thursday that he came to study business administration at a college in Vancouver, Wash., several years ago. They said he and his estranged wife, Christina, met while he was a student. The two married in Vancouver and lived there for three or four months before moving to Portland. About five years into the marriage, they said, Godeka found Scientology. A month after he did, the in-laws said, Godeka sold his belongings, including a stereo the couple owned, and left his wife. ‘The Church of Scientology told him he had to cleanse or purify himself and to leave her,’ Christina’s mother said. ‘He was fine until he got involved with that church.’ In his statement to police, Godeka said he became attracted to Scientology after a session at the Portland branch to familiarize himself with the group’s philosophies. He then took a free personality test and bought some books. At some point, however, he began to feel that several church employees were controlling his mind, he said. One person particularly troubled him: Burke, the receptionist at the Portland branch, who would become one of his gunshot victims. ‘It was Helen,’ he said in one interview with police. ‘Helen’s kept me a prisoner all these years.’ Burke, who is in serious condition, could not be reached for comment.”

As far as I’m concerned Lisa McPherson and the ‘Trust’ that followed was a planned covert operation allowing former plants like Robert Vaughn Young and others to ‘defect’ and further discredit the subject and make absurd claims that it was the Introspection RD that caused her demise. Interesting fact is that the Introspection Rundown if properly done would eliminate the need for Psychiatry and their monopoly over the ‘insane.’ An existential threat to their existence for sure.”

1995: An interesting description was posted this week of Hubbard from Harlan Ellison in his intro to Angry Candy, a collection of his short stories. “Ron Hubbard and Emily went in January of ’86. I hadn’t seen Ron in decades, but we’d exchanged a few letters; and despite the looneytunes scene his Dianetics and Scientology had become, he was always still just Ron Hubbard, who’d written ‘To The Stars’ and ‘Final Blackout’ and ‘Fear’ and ‘Typewriter in the Sky’ and ‘Slaves of Sleep,’ all of which were great pulp fiction I can still reread with pleasure; and he was not some sort of mysterious recluse with a worldwide following of dippy ‘clears’ who are so scared someone will let light into their cultish religion that they sue people who talk in their sleep, one supposes, rather than suffer any negative comment. He was just Ron, and I kinda liked him, mostly because he wrote well, and I never felt he took all that Scientology nonsense seriously but knew how to make a good buck, and he liked me, and … well, he was a friend who died. As Emily was a friend who died.”

2001: Mark Plummer reported a protest in Austin, Texas this week. “For approximately one hour and fifteen minutes yesterday I engaged in an information campaign near the University of Texas at Austin. I arrived on Guadalupe Street around 1PM. I had been joined shortly before by ‘Icee’ and ‘Roscoe’, who offered to help leaflet as well as document my activities with a Hi-8 video camera and a digital camera. After a few minutes, a young, pimpled fellow, perhaps around 5’4′, with blonde hair and a wrinkled blue shirt approached me asking, ‘Why are you doing this?’ I inquired whether he was a Scientologist, to which he stated, ‘No; I’m just curious.’ Sensing that he was lying to me, I handed him a flier with ‘www.xenu.net’ printed on it, and I told him to read the web site, saying, ‘The information is all there.’ A little while later I noticed Cathy Norman, Director of Special Affairs of the Austin Org, standing outside of her cult’s building. In the 75 minutes we were there, ‘Icee’ managed to pass out approximately 125 fliers, all with ‘www.xenu.net’ on them. I continued walking back and forth on Guadalupe Street with my two signs, occasionally stopping to answer questions from some of the curious wogs. An Austin policeman approached me asking whether he could speak to me. He was accompanied by another cop who just stood by and listened. Cathy Norman began taking photos of me talking with the police. I asked the first policeman if I had been accused of having committed a crime, to which he responded, ‘Yes, she says that around a year and a half ago you put graffiti on their building.’ I assured him that I had not, to which his response was, ‘Do you know who did?’ I told him that I do not know, and in fact that I hadn’t even seen the graffiti alleged to have been put on their building. I explained ‘FAIR GAME’ to the policemen, and told them why the culties were harassing me by making false allegations in an attempt to get me arrested. The first policeman assured me that I was completely within my rights to engage in my information campaign, and I thanked him while handing him a ‘www.xenu.net’ flier.”

2000: Tory Christman reported that a Scientologist-owned restaurant in Clearwater attempted to refuse her service based on her being a former Scientologist. “I walked across Fort Harrison to a restaurant called Daniella’s. I walked in and stood by the counter. Suddenly the phone rang, and I heard what looked like the owner say ‘Blue top, white pants?’ I realized I was the only one in there in a blue top and white pants. As she skulked behind the wall, and whispered into the phone I realized this is a security issue. I left quickly, and went back across the street to LMT to get a back up. I got Karin Case and we returned and I ordered a salad. No sooner had I ordered than the same lady on the phone earlier came up to me from behind the counter. ‘Are you from across the street?’ I said ‘Yes’. She asked ‘What do you do there?’ I told her it was none of her business. She told me she was a Scientologist and was against what ‘they’ were doing and thus wasn’t going to serve me. I reminded her this was a PUBLIC business, and I had every intention of eating there. She said no, so I said ‘Well then call the police darlin,’ as THAT is Discrimination and is against the law. One of the workers got me my salad, as she looked on reluctantly.”

“The major problem in processing a psychotic is accessibility. There is, at present, no established procedure for accomplishing this. It has been a recognized problem for many years, and a number of techniques have been devised, but this is one area in which the auditor must rely on his own improvisations. One factor works in favor of the auditor. He knows the anatomy of the engram, and knowing this, is able to understand many types of behavior that are utterly incomprehensible to persons who do not have this knowledge. In addition, the degree of accessibility required for dianetic processing is much smaller than that of many other ways of dealing with a psychotic. An auditor who has once gained the attention of a psychotic for ten minutes should be able to accomplish enough in that ten minutes to make the problem of accessibility much simpler from then on. One of the most gratifying things about dealing with a psychotic is the rapidity with which he responds to processing. Even if the amount of attention released to a psychotic seems incredibly small (one yawn, a few tears) the resulting stabilization of his behavior in present time may be astonishing.” — L. However, the Austrian Constitution guarantees religious freedom on principle, and this right is respected in practice.”
