Another Scientology ambush, this time of Marty Rathbun with Louis Theroux present

SciAmbushMarty Rathbun has been ambushed by odd Scientologists asking strange questions yet again, and this time Marty not only managed to catch them in his short video of the encounter, but filmmaker Louis Theroux can also be seen in it.

In October, Rathbun posted video of three top Scientology officials ambushing him at the gate of a terminal in Los Angeles International airport. He managed to capture a blurry video of the three executives telling him to get a life while carrying cameras of their own.

Last week, former church official Marc Headley got the treatment outside Scientology’s secretive International Base.

And now, Marty has posted video from a recent trip to Los Angeles. At his blog, Rathbun says it’s from a “second wave” of attempted intimidation of a documentary being filmed in LA, but we’re not sure whether this video was shot during the same October trip or at a more recent date. UPDATE: This video was shot yesterday, on Saturday Dec. 13.

Rathbun indicates that the action is taking place outside a movie studio, and at the 1:00 mark you can just make out BBC broadcaster Louis Theroux filming with his own smartphone…

At his blog, Rathbun asked for help identifying the two men who are seen asking him questions (there’s a third man operating a camera). Are these Scientologists, or private investigators hired by the church?

The principal man keeps asking about how much Marty is being paid for “fostering” a child and for working on Theroux’s film.

Actually, Marty and Monique Rathbun adopted a child last year, but it’s just like Scientology to try to make something like that sound unseemly.

We’d like to know if you recognize either of the men.

As we indicated previously, HBO isn’t the only outfit planning a major film about Scientology. HBO’s documentary, “Going Clear,” directed by Alex Gibney, will open at the Sundance Film Festival on January 25.

But another major film, aimed at theatrical release, is in the works, produced by Oscar winner Simon Chinn, directed by John Dower, and starring BBC broadcaster Louis Theroux.

Marty has been hinting at big things in 2015. He was apparently talking about the two films. And now we learn what he was doing in Los Angeles when he was ambushed at LAX — shooting scenes for the Theroux movie.

Judging by the reactions of Scientologists to Rathbun and Headley (who has also been involved in the films), Scientology is very worried about these two movies.

UPDATE: Is Scientologist #2, the one by the wall, CCHR filmmaker Randy Stith? Here’s the man on the video…

And here’s Randy Stith, from his website

UPDATE: We just talked to Marty Rathbun, who tells us this video was shot yesterday in Los Angeles.

We told him that we might have ID’d the second man in the video. And Marty tells us he eventually remembered the man doing most of the talking.

“For the last day I’ve tried to imagine him without glasses or a beard. I couldn’t remember him. But then it turns out I had met him before. This is the guy who ambushed us at the Corpus Christi airport in 2010,” Rathbun says. “Tony, this guy did the same stunt four years ago and I didn’t recognize him, he’s aged so much.”

Rathbun says the man’s name is Chris Smith, and he’s a public Scientologist (non-staff) who works on scripts for events.

We asked him how he felt about his adopted son being the subject of this intimidation attempt.

“I really took that as sending a message. There was no reason to mention that except to say, he [Marty’s son] is now in the mix.”

We told him that these ambushes appear to be related to the two films being made.

“I think they ought to be, because they couldn’t have more credible filmmakers on both teams,” Marty says.

What slime balls. They make me sick.

    • Freethinker

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is what tens of thousands of dollars (or more) and hundreds of hours in the cult turns you into: a repellant life-form that no wog would ever want to become.

      • Missionary Kid

I beg to differ: a repellant life form that only a sociopathic wog would ever want to become. πŸ˜‰

      • Lady Squash

It boggles the mind. Such humorless Stooges.

  • Sidney18511

The remark about Marty’s little baby boy was said in the hope that it would infuriate him. Their pictured outcome was that Marty would lose control, flip out and possibility get physical with one or both of the older men.

And bam! Scientology would have their proof that MR is a crim.

Marty is cooler then me. I would of slammed them.

    • Freethinker

      Classic TR-0 bullbaiting.

    • FollowTheMoney

They wanted him to flip out ON CAMERA – specifically the BBC camera, just like John Sweeney did. That would have undermined his cred and made it harder to present their program, thus ‘handling’ the BBC documentary.

  • Hey COB, this one goes out to you…

  • Oh, Scientology (refresh)

    • TheMirrorThetan

How desperate and stupid do they have to be to ambush Marty in front of professional media reporters?
And shame on them for bringing a small child into their impotent shite flinging. They all SCOHB.

    • Ella Raitch

I approve this use of a kitty kat for a Scientology meme.

  • The Dude

The clip people here thought was me is really a friend from Berklee. Great kid. He plays on Dream Theater’s new album. Music does keep us alive. I am a Chef by day. Musician by night. Music is what gets me out of bed every day.
edited.. This is a Jordan Rudess cover by Eren Basbug.

The Dude can’t even compare to this young man. The Dude does not want anyone to think that this is me. I am sure it was a misunderstanding. But credit where credit is due.

    • The Dude

Dodo? Baby thought it was me on the keyboard! I wish!

      • Just a little misunderstanding. You got rocking friends, Dude.
Can’t wait to see the vid of you singing at your next gig! You are good.

        • The Dude

This is an original for you. We never had a title for this one. My guitarist just called it his “Angry Riff”. This is about as Metal/Punk as we get.

Except for the AC/DC covers we do(I can do a mighty mean Bon Scott!). We do 3 of those. One every set.

          • The Dude

Lyrics by myself and a friend.

            • Very solid performance and a great lyrics! Thanks!!

In your last vid – “Treat Her Like A Lady”, your voice seems a bit rougher, which I really like
and the guitar player’s distortion’s tone hits a sweet spot, as well.
A really good combo. If you guys do more covers/original songs with that in mind,
it would be really cool, imho.

          • “Except for the AC/DC covers we do(I can do a mighty mean Bon Scott!). We do 3 of those. One every set.”

I would love to see and hear that! ^^^

  • O/T: Does anyone else need a holiday avi? Just ask me or Baby if you do.

    • Or ask Dodo.

      • Yay! Now the 24-hour cycle is covered!

      • MrsLurksALot

Dodo, could you give Audrey a little holiday cheer, too? How cute would that be? Everyone is so festive around here, I’ve gotta join in.

        • Of course! I hope you will like it. Let me know if any more help is needed with it.

          • MrsLurksALot

Thank you, my friend! Ho ho ho

            • You are welcome! Baby and Natali can do even better job.

            Thanks, Dodo!

            • You are very welcome!

            • Opal Lumen

Dodo, Shanester’s cap turned out so darling. I know we don’t know each other, but could I impose? Would love a Santa cap if you wouldn’t mind doing it.

            • Sure, can you post the original pic of your avy here?
And I will see what I can do.

            • Opal Lumen

              Indeed! Here it is:

            • Hope you will like it. Let me know if you need help resizing it.

            • Opal Lumen

Oh so cute! Love it – Thank you so much, Dodo ! Will resize it right now.

            • My pleasure, Opal! Glad you like it!
Here’s another version with possibly better tones/contrast.

            • Opal Lumen

Oh, good, will use this new one. Thanks!

            • πŸ™‚ Looking good!

            • Opal Lumen

Here’s the new improved version. Thanks again, so much! With that, am now off to the Land of Nod. What a day, huh? Good Night!

            • aquaclara

              That does look cute.

    • Robert Eckert

My regular avi is all full of pine trees in the background, will that do?

      • I think it is plenty festive! I added lights with your choice of colors if you do want a little more though. If not your snowy pines are great as is πŸ™‚

        • Robert Eckert

          Perfect! Thanks.

  • Draco

Interesting that they should accuse Marty of fostering a baby for money. Trying to deflect attention from their biggest whale who is paying an OT8 in South Africa to foster his son?

  • The Dude

    My gingerbread house.

    • aquaclara

      This is beautiful….

      • I agree. The Dude can sing and make cakes too!

        • aquaclara

A nice combination of talents, eh? We are so lucky.

      • The Dude

        These are the other photos.
Thank you so much. We work hard every Christmas. It was the Children’s party at the Club I work for. It will be on display till New Year’s eve.

        • aquaclara

You have a lot of talent. I flunked with the box kit a few years back- and learned how hard it is to keep the walls up and prevent the roof from caving in! Not to mention piping the icing so it doesn’t just look like blobs….

You probably resisted the temptation to eat all the candy, too….;)

I’m not usually on the overnight shift here-I habs a cold and can’t sleep. Now middle of the night is turning into wee early morning, all because I was trying not to wake up Mr Aqua while hunting for cough medicine….

          • Missionary Kid

            Get better, soon.

            • aquaclara

Thanks, Missionary Kid. It’s just a cold, hopefully. Really, I should have taken NyQuil.

          • NOLAGirl

I flunked too. Mine looked like an earthquake hit it. πŸ˜€

            • aquaclara

Ha ha ha….It’s much harder than it looks!

  • Shanester

Scientology seems to be having fun with Numerology recently. There’s nothing like two generally discredited belief systems getting together and having a party. The Bunker’s own eagle-eyed Robert Eckert pointed out that the Valley Ideal Org holiday party flyer with “over 400 names” in fact had 396 names — in 6 rows of 66 names each. Ooh! Thanks for the 666 reference, Scientology!

And now, in a considerably less funny moment, unless you are the sort of person to laugh at tragedy, we have a fascinating convergence with the Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything.

I am of course referring to the number 42.

Here it less of an answer and more of a compelling insight into the “banality of evil”, Hannah Arendt’s important concept about good people doing evil things because of the system they have embraced or been raised in.

Weirdly, at precisely 42 seconds into this video, when Chris Smith very first mentions “foster care” and expresses the depth of Scientology’s depravity by fair gaming an innocent baby, the camera is focused on the other accoster presumed to be Randy Stith, who flicks his eyes quickly at Chris Smith. In my view, that flick of the eyes tells us much about this entire, insane operation.

Randy, who looks unhappy and unhealthy in the video, isn’t very convincing as a dedicated Scientology soldier, especially in direct contrast to the exceedingly nasty Chris. I may be projecting my personal sense of empathy onto someone who is too far gone to deserve it, but that flick of Randy’s eyes expressed so much to me. That flick of his eyes conveyed shock, horror, and then resignation. It was almost as if Randy knew that this moment was coming, when a new line of depravity would be crossed, yet he could not hold back his shock that it had actually happened. I felt like I was watching the last decency of an innately good person drain out of his character as he at last succumbed to a hideous evil.

Randy, your eyes and your body language express the exact opposite of the words coming out of your mouth. Why are you there? If there is any shred of humanity remaining in you, please hold onto it. That little shred of humanity that you cannot shake off is telling you something you know to be true in your heart: the Church of Scientology is a modern day Beast of soul-sucking evil. Get out now, while you still can.

There is a word I can’t remember for the phenomenon of noticing the number 42 everywhere when attention is drawn to it, similar to how you see silver trucks everywhere after you’ve bought one yourself. Still, I sometimes wonder if Douglas Adams may have been on to something when he introduced the number 42 as the Answer to Everything. In this case, 42 might be showing us the exact moment when Scientology destroys a soul.

    • The Dude

So long and thanks for the fish.

    • Opal Lumen

Shanester, your new cap is super cute! Looks good on you, too!
Is “Apophenia” the word you were thinking of?

      • Shanester

That’s an awesome word, but the thing I’m thinking of is named after somebody. I’m too tired to google it right now. Yes, my teddy bear is happy with his new hat! Thanks!

        G’night πŸ™‚

        • Opal Lumen

          Good Night!

        • chukicita

i’m too sleepy on the other end (coffee hasn’t kicked in) but your post reminded me of Robert Anton Wilson’s Illuminati trilogy and the Law of Fives…

        • Robert Eckert

Some people use “Fortean” in that sense, although “Fortean” can also be used to describe many kinds of weird things.

          • Shanester

Another good one, that I had to look up! Thanks for making me smartur.

The name I was thinking of was Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon.

            • Robert Eckert

It’s good to have a specific word for that, thanks. “Fortean” can refer to a lot of weird things that Fort chronicled but he hit on a couple of examples of inexplicable synchronicity: James Watt, it turns out, was just one of several engineers who started working on a steam engine at the same time (but why just then, Fort asked, when steam had been known for as long as man cooked with fire?); and the planet Uranus is just barely naked-eye visible once a year when it is near opposition, so a Hindu astrologer did notice that this faint star appeared yearly in a slightly shifted position, and announced a new planet– one month after Herschel announced it in England (word of this cannot possibly have travelled from England to India in that time).

      • Shanester

Found it: Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon, although apparently it’s just an internet geek name rather than a scholarly diagnosis (which would be “frequency illusion” — and, at last, I have the name for my 80’s New Wave cover band (that exists in my head)).

        • Opal Lumen

Hey Shanester! When you’re formatting italics, underline, bold, etc., I understand about the word and so on, but how do you make it so the italics, etc., doesn’t continue through the rest of your sentence? Can’t get that figured out! Any help you could provide would be great. Thank you in advance.

          • Shanester

Hi Opal! You have to make sure the words you want formatted are enclosed by the opening and closing tags. It’s clear you understand the opening tag — — but the closing tag looks like this:

            ” ”

Put the formatting letter (b, u, or i) after the slash. Good luck!

            • Shanester

              darnit! Like this:

Opening tag: formatted text and then closing tag

Omit the spaces and make sure the formatting letter appears after the slash

            • Opal Lumen

Shanester, thank you”b” so much”i” for helping me with my formatting”u”.

            • Shanester

              Like this:

            • Opal Lumen

Okay, now I gotcha! Thanks for all your help.

  • Artoo45

Dainty Divot’s Footbullet Follies continue apace. Every time I see these things I just cringe for the clams. They really have no clue how utterly imbalanced and deranged they look. And going after the kid? That’s a new low, even for Rondroids. They are their own worst enemy. Honestly, I don’t think I can eat any more popcorn . . .

    • It is too much, even for OSA/RTC. I wonder what Monique Yingling thinks about it.

    • Missionary Kid

I just added Dainty Divot to DM’s nicknames. Thanks.

    • Drat

Going after kids is not a new low. They have been blatantly photographing the Headley children for quite a while.

      • WTF? Why?

        • Drat

Edit: We all have someone we care about. This is their way of saying they are targets.

          • That should be illegal.

            • Drat

So should the mafia. Oh… it is. Welcome to a justice system where nothing is ever done unless you do it your self.

        • Missionary Kid

That was reported in the Bunker a while ago, and Drat is right. Intimidation. It’s their way of saying, “we know where your kids are.”

They always go after kids. Count the disconnections and abortions. They came for mine… and the rest is history (theirs)

      • Missionary Kid

        • Destructor of Worlds

    • I feel your pain, Sam.

99% of kids my son knew were scientology kids, which is about 25 kids.
The only friends he ever had since he was 5 years old.

My wife and I got declared when he was ~17 and he lost a contact with all of them, but 2 (secretly).
And he didn’t even had anything to do with the SP declares, just the fact that he is our son.

I saw him literally crying throughout a first year of disconnection. He still misses his old friends.

This is not right. This is one of the reasons why we protest.

      • Sam Domingo

I’m so sorry your son was hurt πŸ™ I know that’s the worst cross we all have to bear – that our loved ones have to suffer so much pain – and all for nothing. My girls were 7, 12 and 14 when they lost EVERYONE they knew, trusted and had grown up with in addition to their father and half of their family. I can only imagine the psychological damage that was done I wasn’t able to protect them from. Cult needs to go. Not today, not tomorrow. Yesterday.

        • I am very sorry your girls had to experience that too. So not fair to the kids.

  • Truthiwant

These two jerks should look at themselves in the mirror and admit the truth, or rather, both of them should say “I look awful. Is that what Scientology did to me?”

  • Sid_Snakey

Who the heck cares whether someone gets paid to foster kids anyway? Fostering is a fantastic thing that some people feel they are able to do – to take care of and raise some poor kid for maybe a short time. Fostering provides a wonderful service to society – without it kids would be stuck in some care home instead of a warm, loving family environment.

In the UK, there is a huge shortage of foster carers, despite the fact that yes you get paid an allowance. Which, by the way, is called “exchange” in Scientologese. If you were to foster a child and do it for free, that would be called “out-exchange” and L-Ron would be very unhappy with you.

But to suggest that foster carers might only be fostering a child simply to get money is pretty despicable. Foster carers are some of the most wonderful people you might ever be lucky enough to meet.

But of course, Scientologists are taught to believe that a kid in foster care is a degraded being, who has pulled it in. Scientology is about making the able more able, so a kid in foster care is of supreme unimportance. But, if the kid manages to make something of himself in life, then Scientology would of course be ready and willing to help him (get rid of the tiresome money weighing down his savings accounts).

The church comes over pretty damn horrible with this one. Louis Theroux is going to have a field day. Another footbullet leaves the Miscavige M16 at high velocity.

I think the two bozos actually look quite uncomfortable with what it is they are doing by the way. I think the cognitive dissonance is pouring out of the video.

Good point. My father has been a foster parent for half of his life and is still asked by the social services to take on severely troubled teenagers even after retirement. Yes – he gets ‘paid’ but it’s a pittance that barely covers the cost to keep a child. I’ve seen some of the kids my father has genuinely rescued from a dead end life of crime and revenge. It’s not easy and I wouldn’t want to take on one single kid that he and his wife have shown unconditional love for and opened up their home to. He does it because he loves kids and wants to see them given a second chance. But I guess the clams wouldn’t understand why anyone would want to help the downstats.

      • chukicita

Sam, your post about your dad warmed my heart. I’m so glad there are people like him out there! It takes a lot more than a small subsidy to raise a child. And no one’s ever gotten rich off proper fostering.
Another thing you mentioned – *revenge.* You’re right, it’s a dead end. It also seems to be Scn policy. Kind of strange for a church to have a policy of revenge instead of forgiveness.

        • Sam Domingo

I’m glad there are people like Marty and Mosey in the world who have enough love in their hearts to take and raise an unwanted child as their own. And sad there are people like David Miscavige and his co-horts to cheapen it. Sick fucks. Sick, sick fucks (pardon my French).

    • pluvo

They try to push Marty’s ‘money’ buttons (they did it before) and now additionally try to provoke a reaction with mentioning his child. It’s all about to get Marty to react, so they can film it and use it against him, like they did many times before.Of course the goal is to ‘destroy utterly’ as per the doctrine how to handle ‘SPs’,and the coward despot is sending his pit bulls – in this case more of his lap dogs – for his vendetta. They must have gotten also instructed to make it look like a ‘personal’ thing, so it doesn’t fall back on DM: “I’m having a comm cycle with Marty/I am hear to talk to Marty” (and at Hemet “I have a message for Marc”). The lying &%*#$ doesn’t want to really talk to Marty, he just wants to get a discreditably reaction.

My computer is stuffed and I cant flag much, is there a particular area that needs flagging the most?
I can do a bit of flagging on my tablet each day as long as it isnt too many. Its going to be a couple of months until I can get a new one. I used to concentrate on Boston but it isnt being scammed like it was.

      • Pierrot

thanks, Thetan, concentrate on your area and surrounding where your flags have more weight.
For that use the regional list.

        • TheMirrorThetan

I would, but Iam here in South Australia and their Craigslist presence was nil last time i checked.

          • Pierrot

Desperately trying to catch up on all the stuff that’s been posted ‘overnight’ UK time.

Instead of callously dumping disaffected people by the roadside Slappy’s now suddenly gone into reverse and is now PAYING people handsomely to leave quietly? When that becomes widely known won’t there be a queue of people with hands outstretched? If so this could change the dynamics VERY quickly.

OK, this is highly speculative: but if a bonanza pay-out results in large numbers of the few remaining staff disappearing, would that not mean that things are about to collapse? Is Slappy so desperate and sleep deprived that he’s not realised this? Or is it actually part of his exit strategy? Pay people to go away quietly, to give him time to pack his bags and exit through that long-prepared secret exit door?

Scientology’s Berlin Wall Moment may be much nearer than I’d realised.

    • chukicita

Still in a pre-coffee haze here, but Hub wrote something about “moving off a point of power” that involved “pay your obligations to the nail” and take the “addresses of assassins” and “move to Bulgravia and bribe the police”

  • John Smith

Wow! Louis Theroux is going to have a ball with Scientology. If any Bunkerites are not familiar with his work I urge you to look it out particularly the documentaries he made about the Westborough Baptist Church .

I feel that Scientology is going to top even those ones!

  • Still_On_Your_Side

This ambush was so sad I have to wonder, is the best Miscavige can do? The two ambushers look tired, and haggard, and acted depressed. I think these two men need help, fast. The one that looked older (he could be 30 for all I know, Miscavige ages people fast) appeared ready to collapse. To send these two poor sods in an effort to stop the BBC or threaten Marty is beyond madness. What will Miscavige demand next of the few remaining members? I worry that it will be something akin to demanding that they “drop their bodies” (commit suicide) as a way of showing Miscavige their loyalty, and showing the world that they are religious “martyrs.”

  • valshifter

They always ask “why are you doing this?” as if we didn’t have the right to move on in life.
How offensive to address his son as a foster child, is disgraceful and all this other synonyms:…..shameful, shocking, scandalous, deplorable, despicable, contemptible, beyond contempt, beyond the pale, dishonorable, discreditable, reprehensible, base, mean, low, blameworthy, unworthy, ignoble, shabby, inglorious, outrageous, abominable, atrocious, appalling, dreadful, terrible, disgusting, shameless, vile, odious, monstrous, heinous, iniquitous, unspeakable, loathsome, sordid, nefarious
Am tired of this Scientology Inc Terrorist, the video has a very appropriate title, TERRORIST.

  • Lori Hodgson

Another Foot Bullet, but this is a big one! We love you, Marty! Thankyou for doing the Documentary.

    • Baby

Thinking of you Lori during this holiday season..I can’t even imagine .. xo baby.. ((HUGS))

      • Lori Hodgson

Thank you, Baby! I’m going to share Christmas pic’s of my kids every day till Christmas in hopes that they peek at my FB. Just maybe it will help wake them up.

        • Baby

Awww How cute.. Yes do that.. Holiday memories are very powerful honey.. You have a huge group of supporters.. Post pictures here everyday .. We have plenty of hugs to give to you!

      • Mymy88

Smoking Baby! Today, I was listening to those series of videos Marcus Sawyer did! I saw you had left him a really nice comment. Oh my gosh it is so heartbreaking to see how hard it is for him to tell his truth, especially in that very first one. Gah, it’s like I can almost feel him hanging on to all the courage he can muster, with every ounce of strength that he has, in order to overcome his shame. But it’s not his shame, it’s that m*ther fucking evil cult’s shame, not that Puscaige knows the emotion at all, but I’m saying the cult put that shame on him. He didn’t deserve it and I hope he continues to find the strength to grow in that knowledge. I know he knows it’s not his fault, but I think he still must struggle with it a lot. Who wouldn’t?

God, I have had things happen to me in life that I struggle with as far as figuring how much responsibility I had or didn’t have in bringing them about. And I think that’s bad? Can you imagine how these people coming out of scien must feel? I can’t at all. It must be really horrible, especially when they have given thousands and thousands of dollars to a fucking diarrhea shit for brains mafia leader, that uses ALL of the money for despicable evil deeds. Sorry about going on and on. I’m bad at doing that.

Anyway, on YouTube, I am “Mabel yourmama” with the picture of a black cat sitting on top of a planked railed wooden fence. I’m going to delete this post after you see it, so please let me know one way or the other if you did. You can just like it and I’ll know.

  • ObsessedReader

Tory, that’s just awful! I’m so sorry for all the terrible things you and your mom had to endure! And I don’t blame you, I’d never want to set foot in Florida again either. Luckily I’m on the east coast, a pretty safe distance and 2 – 3 hr drive from “Hellwater”. And there is no scientology in my town, thank heavens!
