We have some fun odds and ends for you today while we nail down more big stories for you from the world of Scientology.
We’re chasing down all sorts of things — follow-ups to our previous stories, as well as big legal happenings on the horizon. But we can’t say too much just yet. We don’t want to spoil things.
In the meantime, we’ve been meaning to share with you the latest newsletter from the Fort Harrison Hotel, Scientology’s ‘Mecca’ in Clearwater, Florida. We always love to read the things our sharp-eyed readers pull out of these slick publications put out by Scientology.
It’s the Fort Harrison where wealthy church members check in for extended stays while they go through the secret upper-level courses of Scientology which can cost hundreds of dollars an hour. So when you’re catering to a crowd that’s burning up that kind of cash for e-meter parlor tricks, it better be a Hilton and a half! We’ll let you tell us if the joint seems up to snuff…

Meanwhile, after Marty Rathbun’s recent bizarre encounter at LAX resulted in a video that went viral on Reddit, the former top Scientology executive has put out a helpful collection of earlier run-ins he had with the church’s goon squads. We trust that for our longtime readers, these scenes will all be familiar. For newer folks, we highly recommend that you hunt down a copy of the Channel 4 documentary, “Scientologists at War,” and then these clips will all make sense…
And finally, we were excited to hear the news yesterday that Ridley Scott will be producing a miniseries for AMC based on George Pendle’s book Strange Angel about rocket scientist and occult hobbyist Jack Parsons.
We can only hope that some choice scenes are included which depict Parsons and his good friend L. Ron Hubbard taking part in their 1946 “sex magick” experiments to bring about a “Moonchild.”
We’d love to hear your casting suggestions. Who should play LRH? Parsons? Sara “Betty” Northrup, the gal who Hubbard stole away from the rocket man?
Ah, this is going to be fun.
UPDATE: We sent George Pendle a congratulatory email and asked if he could tell us more about the miniseries. But he says he’s “on the outside looking in” at this point and doesn’t know much about the production. He encouraged us to check in with him later for more details, and we sure will!
