Ken Dandar could use a cool million in his fight against Scientology

KenDandar2The last time we spoke with Florida attorney Ken Dandar, he had put on a brave face about what appeared to be another setback in court. Federal Judge Virginia M. Hernandez Covington had refused, again, to intervene with a state court that had saddled Dandar with a $1 million judgment, payable to the Church of Scientology.

Dandar told us, however, that he was encouraged that Covington had allowed part of his lawsuit against Scientology and the lower court to stand. “She denied their motion to dismiss. That’s huge. She recognizes the federal rights in this case, but she’s reluctant to interfere with the state courts,” he told us.

Our sources tell us that the situation is worse than he let on. And after another hearing before retired state judge Crockett Farnell on August 6, things could become downright untenable for Dandar.

It’s our understanding that after that hearing, Scientology will have the ability to use the $1 million judgment to make doing business very difficult for Dandar. And unless he can come up with a million-dollar bond, he won’t be able to stop the church, even though he’s appealing Farnell’s decision.

Our sources tell us Dandar is especially frustrated by it, because just weeks after the hearing, he’s expecting a windfall in other cases that he’s handling — work that may get derailed through Scientology’s use of the judgment to upend his livelihood.

If you have a pile of money lying around and wanted to see Dandar prolong his fight against Scientology, you might think about helping him out by floating a loan for a bond over the short term. Sounds like he could really use it.
