AOLA’s grand re-opening — a look at the last time Scientology cut the ribbon at Big Blue!

On Sunday, Scientology will have a ceremony to celebrate the re-opening of the Advanced Organization of Los Angeles (AOLA), where wealthy church members go to receive high-level “Operating Thetan” courses and auditing on their way up L. Ron Hubbard’s “Bridge to Total Freedom.” But this isn’t the first time the church has had a grand re-opening of the facility. It also happened in 1998, and look who cut the ribbon!

Yes, that’s none other than Mark ‘Marty’ Rathbun, when he was Inspector General of Ethics and the right hand man to Scientology leader David Miscvige.

Hey, and look behind him — people are holding umbrellas! Somehow, in Southern California, where it never rains, there were showers at the re-opening in 1998 and now the re-opening in 2014. Fun!

Oh, the pageantry…

Another view of Mr. Rathbun carrying out his duties…

And also in the issue, Ray Mithoff regaling the crowds!

We can’t wait to see what triumphant photos come out of this weekend’s re-grand-opening celebration, and we can only hope they feature the diminutive Captain David Miscavige.

Texas appeals court asks for a response from Monique Rathbun

The Church of Scientology recently filed a petition for a writ of mandamus with the Texas Third Court of Appeals in an attempt to keep its leader, David Miscavige, out of a deposition in Monique Rathbun’s harassment lawsuit against the church. Now, the court has asked Monique to respond to the facts stated in that petition, and she has until March 7 to comply.

As soon as we can get a copy of what she files, we’ll post it here. In the meantime, here’s the court’s brief letter to her…

Hi Dave! You should post here not on a old post back in Nov. How’s the abortion business? YSCOHB. It does suck to be Dave. Gee Dave my family is out. Lol, so is yours!

  • media_lush

Ha ha, the showrunner for Kirstie’s program “exits series”….. the one thing you have to understand if the put a sentence in a statement like the the one below then the exact opposite is true (they do this for hard copy deniability should it come to that):

“The departure is not related to Kirstie or its star, Kirstie Alley, with whom Pennette is a long-time friend”

    • Baby

Thanks Lush.. Lovin this.. Hope it isn’t renewed… UGH.. Go Away Alley.. JUST GO AWAY

    • Robert Eckert

“And the departure is definitely not related to Kirstie’s affiliation with Scientology, a genuine bona-fide very ecclesiastical religion for which Pennette has abject respect.”

    • Douglas D. Douglas

      Run away, Show Runner!

    • marti

“The departure is not related to Kirstie or its star, Kirstie Alley”

Marco Pennette is openly gay. That makes him a 1.1 in Kirstie’s religiosity.
Does that not make him a PTS?

      • Missionary Kid

Well, JT is gay, and he’s supposedly her best buddy and, according to her, “the love of my life,” and he’s gay.

Who knows if it’s because Marco is gay, or he knows the program just sucks and he’s getting out while he can?

        • marti

But JT is a scientologist and is auditing the gay “away”.
And as Kirstie tells it JT is not gay.

          • Missionary Kid

Because he’s a whale, everyone is in denial. Whales are different and aren’t subjected to the usual rules.

            • marti

              I forgot the whale aspect.

And JT is representing cos, in a way, on Sunday night.

non celeb scientology story from Tampa Bay Times (but it does mention a celeb, ed)

“Here is a little-known fact that ought to qualify Clearwater Mayor George Cretekos to hold on to the job in perpetuity.

The Cretekos family tree includes the great opera diva Maria Callas.

You’ll recall that in her lifetime Callas was the paramour of a fabulously rich Greek shipping magnate who was cruelly indifferent to her emotional needs, frequently abusive and otherwise acted like an insufferable bully.

    Maria Callas had Aristotle Onassis.

George Cretekos has the Church of Scientology.”

The secret ventriloquist dolls Miscavige had specially made in the likeness of those he wanted to intimidate (he sleeps with the Cruise one right, ed?)

    (part of another ongoing series)

    • Suzy

Oh media-lush! I had forgotten all about those dolls. That particular piece of childish vindictiveness on Miscavige’s part should get more publicity now that Ms Remini has created more of the public’s interest in all thing $cientology. I would love to see the twitter feed on that one.

am currently having a comment conversation at USMag…. maybe a few people here might want to join in (it’s all good)

    • Power Wog

Thats good to hear cuz that OSA jeff dude on the other radar line is a douche bag.

      • media_lush

one thing that really gets his goat is to taunt him that he can’t post here…. really, really upsets him

        • Jimmy Threetimes

That’s exactly right. He cannot post too obviously here. That really pisses him off.

        • Power Wog

          hehehehe..will do that next time.

    • media_lush

there’s no greater pleasure than getting a reply like this… (well there is, obviously… but you’ll know what I mean)

  • AnyOldName1

Off Topic – Lovin’ how all the media are picking up the Scion part of Leah’s story. May have been an after thought in the original, but it’s headlining on the rewrites.

  • Douglas D. Douglas

    Apropos of nothing in particular…

    • Missionary Kid

Pat and Vanna don’t do $cientology, thank goodness.

    • Jimmy Threetimes

I like this very much. This opens up a whole line of Wheel Of Fortune shoops.

      • Douglas D. Douglas

And who doesn’t love a good, random Wheel of Fortune shoop…???

Wouldn’t it be amazing if Monique’s attorney took both pics of the Advance magazine that Tony has posted for today’s blog, and kept them on the table in court so that the COS attorneys could see them? I wonder how Tiny Dude’s attorney is gonna spin the proof that Marty did indeed hold a high position in RTC, when they keep stating that Marty never held any real position in the church? Those Advance magazine pics seem to say otherwise, eh?

As to the court of appeals request to Monique’s attorneys for an answer, I looked at the bottom of the page and saw the ” CC. The Honorable Wallace B. Jefferson”. That made me throw up a little in my mouth and I had to go and get some mouthwash to take the bad taste out. It just makes me sick that those idiots (attorneys) know about the abuses on people and they also know who is responsible for most of it. Money, it seems, will make some people look the other way while the abuse is happening so they can then say, ” I never witnessed anything”.

This removal of posts by Disqus or whomever is getting worst, not better.

The moderators probably find it easier to go along with the automatic flags rather than reading and moderating the comments

  • DodoTheLaser

About that magazine cover with Marty cutting the ribbon – imagine the horror and confusion among the followers, if Marty shows up for the re-opening ceremony THIS time. May be even with Mike Rinder. Just a funny thought.

    • Power Wog

that would be hilarious actually. Are there going to be any pickets? Does anyone know?

    • media_lush

      cardboard cut-out Marty masks!!!

  • Power Wog

Has anyone seen this very interesting Will Smith video totally sounding like Tom Cruise? i got this from the message board at US magazine.

    • media_lush

yep…. I think the perfect follow up to this is to have a video of a talk show host showing it to Jaden (his son) and asking him to explain what his did is saying…. (this could shut down the internet, ed)

      • marti

Finally, at the very end of his fancy words, which got him nowhere, he simply said,
“We are who we choose to be”.
Smith says in the beginning he doesn’t want to be an icon.
I wonder who told him that he was?

    • marti

One minute and 50 seconds of nonsense and Smith admitted it at the end.

“It’s real hard to put into words real metaphysical, esoteric nonsense”.

Since this is about cults and all, I figured now’s as good a time as any to go ahead and say that if I were to survive the apocalypse I would join the first crazy new religion I came across. Nothing too insane though; like, if we worshiped a building or something that’d be alright. Just so long as we don’t have to kill or eat people in the name of our faith.

“Yeah, this toilet is our lord and master, but it’s not such a big deal” kind of thing
