“When checking out a used car, one can sort of ‘shroud’ it and get a feel for its chronic emotion, look beyond its scuffs into its heart, hear its noises in your mind and home in on the car’s voice, unscramble the frequencies, maybe even spot a postulate or two. You can get a sense of previous owners, scan to where they lived, where they took the car, what the car saw on its travels, if there were children and pets. Was the car happy? Explore its time track back to the factory; are there any hidden moments? It doesn’t take long to do if you can get the seller to shut up for a minute. Service histories can be falsified too, it’s not unheard of. Does the car even want another owner? Dependency on MEST documentation is only one route to knowing something.”

2000: Tory Christman reported that a Scientologist-owned restaurant in Clearwater attempted to refuse her service based on her being a former Scientologist. “I walked across Fort Harrison to a restaurant called Daniella’s. I walked in and stood by the counter. Suddenly the phone rang, and I heard what looked like the owner say ‘Blue top, white pants?’ I realized I was the only one in there in a blue top and white pants. As she skulked behind the wall, and whispered into the phone I realized this is a security issue. I left quickly, and went back across the street to LMT to get a back up. I got Karin Case and we returned and I ordered a salad. No sooner had I ordered than the same lady on the phone earlier came up to me from behind the counter. ‘Are you from across the street?’ I said ‘Yes’. She asked ‘What do you do there?’ I told her it was none of her business. She told me she was a Scientologist and was against what ‘they’ were doing and thus wasn’t going to serve me. I reminded her this was a PUBLIC business, and I had every intention of eating there. She said no, so I said ‘Well then call the police darlin,’ as THAT is Discrimination and is against the law. One of the workers got me my salad, as she looked on reluctantly.”

— Danny Masterson charged for raping three women: Sentenced to 30 years to life on Sep 7, 2023. Appeal now fully briefed, oral arguments scheduled for June 25. Masterson has also submitted a habeas corpus petition.
— ‘Lafayette Ronald Hubbard’ (a/k/a Justin Craig), aggravated assault, plus drug charges: Grand jury indictments include charges from an assault while in custody. Pleaded guilty on Nov 10 to a 17-year prison sentence. Now serving time in state prison.
— Aaron Matthes charged for SA of child under 12 years old: OT Scientologist facing multiple mandatory life sentences. Next pretrial court hearing set for June 19.

Civil litigation:
— Leah Remini v. Scientology, alleging ‘Fair Game’ harassment and defamation: Some defamation claims were removed by Judge Hammock. Judge Hammock’s ruling is on appeal, which is now fully briefed. Oral arguments hearing set for July 23.
— Baxter, Baxter, and Paris v. Scientology, alleging labor trafficking: Forced to ‘religious arbitration.’
— Valerie Haney v. Scientology: Forced to ‘religious arbitration.’ 15 days of arbitration completed, Val waiting for further word from the IJC.
— Chrissie Bixler et al. v. Scientology and Danny Masterson. Judge Upindra Kalra’s ruling denying Scientology’s motion to strike upheld on appeal. Scientology expected to file additional petitions before case can return to Kalra’s court.
— Jane Doe 1 v. Scientology, David Miscavige, and Gavin Potter: Case unsealed and second amended complaint filed. Scientology moves for religious arbitration. Trial has been set for January 10, 2028.

“The major problem in processing a psychotic is accessibility. There is, at present, no established procedure for accomplishing this. It has been a recognized problem for many years, and a number of techniques have been devised, but this is one area in which the auditor must rely on his own improvisations. One factor works in favor of the auditor. He knows the anatomy of the engram, and knowing this, is able to understand many types of behavior that are utterly incomprehensible to persons who do not have this knowledge. In addition, the degree of accessibility required for dianetic processing is much smaller than that of many other ways of dealing with a psychotic. An auditor who has once gained the attention of a psychotic for ten minutes should be able to accomplish enough in that ten minutes to make the problem of accessibility much simpler from then on. One of the most gratifying things about dealing with a psychotic is the rapidity with which he responds to processing. Even if the amount of attention released to a psychotic seems incredibly small (one yawn, a few tears) the resulting stabilization of his behavior in present time may be astonishing.” — L. 1999: Der Standard published an article on Scientology’s use of last week’s U.S. State Department report to justify itself in Austria. “The Scientology Church, which is controversial in Austria, feels that its criticism of the federal government has been validated by the US State Department report, ‘Religious Freedom 1999 in Austria.’ In it the U.S. administration primarily regards the federal laws for religious denominations and the legal entity of the Federal Center for Sect Issues ‘with concern.’ A delegation of the U.S. Helsinki Commission and the State Department testified to administration representatives on a visit to Austria in March that the two laws were not in agreement with ‘the European Human Rights Convention or other international treaties.’ Discrimination and ‘social mistrust’ against members of non-acknowledged religions described as section was criticized. However, the Austrian Constitution guarantees religious freedom on principle, and this right is respected in practice.”

You need to take a whole bottle of this shit to even remotely get a buzz. Vistaril has never been considered a true psych drug. I know it is an antihistamine, anti itching agent. “The sincerely felt attempts by a psychotic’s family to reason with his aberration normally drive him farther into the pattern of his irrationality. Playing through the other side of the engram in which he is held will only result in his being caught more firmly by the engram. Even in the unusual case of a person in a family who is unaberrated enough to act rationally about a psychotic in his own family, there is still a problem of restimulation to be considered. The voice tones, mannerisms, methods of expression, emotional reactions of any member of a family will be found in the reactive bank of any other member of that family. OTs, almost by definition, do not organize Book One events. One can’t be an actual OT and involve oneself with that, because it is a waste of time. Napoleon got things done. And he had R6. You are not an OT, and no one should treat you as such. You can’t get things done and refuse to support people who do. You are as causative as a mentally disabled person in a wheelchair. Scientology OTs, putting the tech aside, are probably some of the least effective beings on this planet. I haven’t seen good results. And that’s because of lower grades.”

1998: Scientology’s Citizen’s Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) is distributing literature in Hollywood blaming Psychiatry for the death of many entertainers. From the Los Angeles Times: “Nearly 235,000 members of the worldwide entertainment community have received a recent mailing from a Church of Scientology-based group that directly blames psychiatry and psychology practices for contributing to the deaths of such artistic legends such as Ernest Hemingway, Billie Holliday, Judy Garland, Vivian Leigh, Janis Joplin and John Lennon. Accompanied by a letter signed by 14 Hollywood types (and all Scientology members), including actors Jenna Elfman, Anne Archer, Juliette Lewis, Nancy Cartwright, Jason Lee and Jason Beghe, the publication, ‘Harming Artists: Psychiatry Manipulating Creativity’, alleges that several Hollywood tragedies came about because of the ‘betrayal’ of psychiatry or psychology, described as ‘an influence that left these artists dreadfully damaged, their foundations of strength and certainty torn away.'” From Mr. Showbiz: “Forget about drugs and booze. The real problem plaguing Hollywood, at least according to the Scientologists, are those dastardly and apparently deadly psychiatrists and psychologists. Some of the topics covered in the various essays in the publication include Marilyn Monroe: Killed by Psychiatric Drugs (‘This ‘candle in the wind’ was snuffed out by the psychiatrists pretending to help her’) and Kurt Cobain: Ritalin Harms ‘Teen Spirit.’ The missive adds that the ‘family’ of actors, directors, and producers has been ‘repeatedly ravaged,’ and points to the recent deaths of Chris Farley, Phil Hartman, producer Don Simpson, and INXS frontman Michael Hutchence.”

Stern: All right, listen to me, Senator. But, in no way I can believe that my senator believes L. Ron Hubbard is god. You should have thrown Travolta right out of there, kicked him down the steps. 1995: A victory this week in the suit against Larry Wollersheim and Bob Penny. A summary of Judge Kane’s ruling from Kim Baker: “In RTC vs. FACTNet, Judge Kane said that RTC did not prove probability of success of their case. Equally, RTC did not show the probability of their claim. FACTNet was entitled to its use of the documents under the fair use provisions under section 107 of the copyright rules. FACTNet’s criticism, comment and debate qualifies it to fair use of the documents. RTC did not show infringement, and did not show that their claim of “trade secrets” was valid. The documents were in the public domain, and were proved to
have been on the Internet long before the August raids. It was not proved that the “trade secrets” were the kind that are protected under the law. RTC did not show irreparable injury; any injury they may have does not outweigh the harm done to Lawrence Wollersheim, Bob Penny and FACTNet. The actions of the defendants would not restrain individuals from joining $cientology – if they are interested in participating in $cientology they would anyway. The question of infringement is answered by the fair use principles. The public interest is more served in the continuation of FACTNet. The balance of the danger of harm is in the favor of the defendants, rather than $cientology. All computers and peripherals, along with seized documents, are to be returned immediately, in precisely the same condition as when seized, and in precisely the same location when seized.”

From Stacy Brooks: “Fox News is running an announcement at the bottom of their screen directing people to call 1-800-FOR-TRUTH for national mental health assistance. This is part of what is running on the screen: NYPD WARNS OF CRUEL SCAMS: FAMILIES OF MISSING PERSONS URGED NOT TO GIVE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS TO PEOPLE POSING AS RESCUE WORKERS… PET RESCUE CALL ANIMAL CARE & CONTROL: 888-567-8123… NATIONAL MENTAL HEALTH ASSISTANCE: 800-FOR-TRUTH… When you call that number the person answers: ‘Dianetics Help Center, can I help you?'” Fox News removed the phone number and offered this explanation in an email: “It was a stupid screw up and it’s gone. Thanks for your note. Ken LaCorte, L.A. Bureau Chief, Fox News Channel.” The St. Petersburg Times reported the appearance of the phone number: “Television viewers who turned to Fox News on Friday for coverage of the terrorist attack also saw a message scrolling across the bottom of their screens – National Mental Health Assistance: 800-FOR-TRUTH. Unknown to the cable news channel, the phone number connects to a Church of Scientology center in Los Angeles, where Scientologists were manning the phones. ‘It was entirely a good-faith attempt to help people,’ said Ben Shaw, a Clearwater Scientology official. Church spokesman Kurt Weiland in Los Angeles said the phrase ‘National Mental Health Assistance’ must have come from Fox. ‘I can assure you it didn’t come from us,’ he said. Scientology firmly opposes psychiatry, and church members campaign to eliminate psychiatric practices in mental health. Fox News spokesman Robert Zimmerman said the station received an e-mail about the hotline and aired the number without checking it. ‘The bottom line is we (messed) up,’ Zimmerman said. ‘Unfortunately, it didn’t get vetted. We apologize.’ The hotline information ran for several hours – once appearing below the image of President Bush and his wife, Laura, at the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance in Washington. The news channel yanked the information Friday after learning of the Scientology connection, Zimmerman said. Michael Faenza, president and chief executive of the National Mental Health Association, called the hotline number ‘outrageous’ and said Scientology ‘is the last organization’ emotionally vulnerable people should call. ‘They just leave a wake of destruction in the realm of mental health,’ he said. The mental health association, based in Virginia, is the country’s oldest and largest nonprofit organization addressing all aspects of mental health and mental illness. ‘This is a very important and sensitive time,’ Faenza said. ‘I’d urge the Church of Scientology to stay out of the mental health side of what happens in the country now.’ In some cases, callers were referred by the four Scientologists answering the phones to agencies compiling information about missing people. In other cases, callers were directed to agencies taking collections, Weiland said. If people called crying and upset, he said, they were told they could visit a Scientology center. When a reporter called, a volunteer said free copies of a booklet, Solutions for a Dangerous Environment, were available to callers. The booklet is a Scientology publication based on the works of L. Ron Hubbard, although that was not mentioned in the phone call.”

2000: Jeff Jacobsen reported attending a meeting of Citizens for a Better Clearwater, a community group in which many Scientologists participate. “There seemed to be quite a few Scientologists there; Bennetta Slaughter, Susan Cook, Mary Story, plus a few other faces I recognized. Reverend Al Buttnor and Mary DeMoss came in just as most people were leaving. Bennetta seemed to have a position of authority there. They are planning a cleanup day, a Food festival day, a Jazz festival, and a renovation of an alley. They had a schematic of the alley, a sample mural they wanted to put on the Coachman building wall (Scientology graciously offered to prepare the wall for the artist), and a plan to raise the money – sell bricks for the pavement. The plan is to make a mural on the Coachman building, put plants and benches in there, and tear out the asphalt and put in bricks. 1998: The St. Petersburg Times reported that Scientology is opening a new school in Clearwater, the Clearwater Academy. “A new private school using educational concepts promoted by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard is scheduled to open today downtown. Clearwater Academy International, at Drew Street and Myrtle Avenue, will have an enrollment of 120 students from pre-kindergarten through the 12th grade, said executive director Pam Chipman. A new $1.5-million facility now holds the combined enrollment and resources of three smaller schools that merged last year — A to Be School, Jefferson Academy and Renaissance Academy. About 150 people attended the event, including several top officials from the Church of Scientology, Clearwater’s Assistant City Manager Bob Keller, city Public Works Administrator Rich Baier and Nancy Cartwright. The annual tuition at Clearwater Academy is $7,800. School is in session year-round from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekday, except for 6 weeks of off time sprinkled throughout each year.”
