Tom Cruise’s Scientology superpowers, No. 13: Communicating with anyone on any subject

On Friday we began our countdown of Scientology superpowers that Tom Cruise can expect as an OT Scientologist and million-dollar donor.

Today, we’re looking at a “superpower” that all Scientologists are supposed to gain as they move up the “Bridge to Total Freedom,” and that’s the ability to communicate with anyone on any subject. And with the global reach of a guy like Tom Cruise, his communication skills ought to make him an amazing ambassador for the Church of Scientology, shouldn’t it?

For some perspective on that, we’re turning to another former member of the Church of Scientology and someone our readers are very familiar with, Phil Jones. Here’s what Phil sent us.

Scientology boasts constantly that communication is a huge part of what they handle in people’s lives. Hubbard has said it’s a “World out of Comm,” with the implied meaning that Scientology is better at communicating than the rest of planet.

Here’s how Hubbard defined communication:

1. The consideration and action of impelling an impulse or particle from source point across a distance to receipt point with the intention of bringing into being at the receipt point a duplication and understanding of that which emanated from the source point. (HCOB 5 Apr 73)

2. Any ritual by which effects can be produced and perceived. Thus a letter, a bullet, the output of theta “flitter” are all, to us, communication. (PAB 4)

Clear as a bell, right?

When Tom Cruise did the 2005 Today show interview with Matt Lauer, he wasn’t trying to “exchange ideas or information,” he was delivering Scientology’s talking points in an attempt to overwhelm and kill off Lauer’s ideas. “You’re glib!” “You don’t know the history of psychiatry, I do.” There was no attempt by Tom to accept any communication from Lauer. He’s not even really trying to get Lauer to “understand.” He’s just trying to overwhelm. Tom is just shooting his bullets and hoping to hit something, but never does.

And look at Tom’s recent rant to his movie crew about a few crew members who apparently stood a bit too close to each other. In a tirade that Leah Remini likened to a Miscavige-like screaming scenario, Tom scattershot a machine-gun burst of shouting to the whole crew, rather than “communicate” to the two who had gotten a bit lax on their Covid safety.

Tom’s communication is mostly one way and often scattered. He’ll start one sentence, then change up to say something else halfway through it.

As an OT, Tom long ago passed Grade 0, which delivers an EP (End Phenomenon) of the “Ability to communicate freely with anyone on any subject.”

We’ve seen “lesser” Scientologists run away from communicating, and even lock doors and hide behind window blinds, but Tom, the third-highest being in Scientology (next to Hubbard and Miscavige) should be able to do better.

We’re just not seeing it, Tom. Call me and we’ll talk.

As the Bunker has been very supportive of me in many ways over the years I feel it incumbent of me to provide an update on my current situation.

In 2019 I began training for a diploma as a Health Care Assistant and before the year was out I not only qualified but also began working in that field. Then a pandemic came along.

Since then I have been pretty busy. My schedule is alternate weekends off and working the rest of the time, seeing 12 or more clients every day and on the go from 8am to 8pm.

Then it hit me. I probably do more to help people in need in a single day than the entire Church of Scientology does in a year.

Hats off to everyone working in healthcare especially these days. Our day beats a Church of Scientology year because we actually care.

Today in Los Angeles: Danny Masterson’s subpoenas

Today in Los Angeles, Judge Charlaine Olmedo’s courtroom on the ninth floor of the criminal courts building of the Los Angeles Superior Court will hear arguments about subpoenas that Danny Masterson’s defense attorney Tom Mesereau served on a number of people, including your proprietor and the production company that made Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath.

We’re on a family trip, but our attorneys will be taking part in the hearing, and as soon as we get some word about how things went, we’ll relay it to you.

UPDATE: Judge Charlaine Olmedo has ruled in your proprietor’s favor and quashed the subpoena that was asking for our communications as a reporter on the Danny Masterson story.

Although we’re currently not in California, we were given a link to attend the hearing electronically, and so we were present virtually and watched our attorney Scott Pilutik argue our motion.

Judge Olmedo also quashed the subpoenas asking for footage or other records from the production companies that made “Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath” and on the same basis, that it would violate California’s reporter’s shield law.

She also quashed the subpoenas that had been served on the three victims, as well as a couple of witnesses.

Much more happened during the hearing — even Shelly Miscavige’s name came up at one point — and we’ll have a full report tomorrow morning.

2001: Class 12 auditor Claire Reppen passed away this week. Scientology announced a memorial service. “There will be a Memorial Service for Claire Reppen on Saturday morning at 11 am, outside the Sandcastle restaurant in the back. Claire (Class XII) passed away a few days ago from cancer. She has many, many friends and PCs in the local community and was an awesome example of Class XII ability.”
