Scientology continues to see the pandemic as a public relations opportunity

Scientology preaches social distancing on the web and in booklets it has produced. Members are taking extension courses at home rather than coming into their local org, which is a good way to prevent infection. But some members can’t resist making alliances with other groups, even if it means bringing people into close proximity.

This week the Pasadena org went north to the Altadena area to drop booklets into baskets being distributed to those in need during the pandemic.

My Tribe Rise is a community group founded by Victor Hodgson and Heavenly Hughes to combat gang violence and unify the black community in the Pasadena area. As in the rest of the country, many in Pasadena now find themselves without a job and are struggling to put food on the table. My Tribe Rise organized a Baskets of Peace event in Charles White Park to distribute food to those in need. Nobody practiced much social distancing at this event.

Enter Scientology. They came with booklets. There’s The Way to Happiness with a cover custom printed for My Tribe Rise as well as Scientology’s booklet How to Keep Yourself and Others Well. It’s called safepointing and L. Ron Hubbard ordered the practice to develop allies to protect Scientology when it comes under attack. My Tribe Rise doesn’t know it, but the Pasadena org is courting them as Hubbard ordered in 1972.

Last week we saw Scientologists sterilizing the roof of the Melbourne org and in Johannesburg coming together to sterilize building interiors. This week the Salt Lake City org sterilized police cars, ambulances and fire trucks in Murray, Utah. You don’t get the coronavirus from a fire truck. You get the virus by coming into close contact with an infected person. Bringing people together to fight the virus is counterproductive.

The city of Murray doesn’t know it, but Scientology is courting them as allies. This one-time sterilization serves no purpose in preventing the spread of the virus. Police officers and ambulance drivers need to use disinfectant throughout the day, not once. Scientology is running a safepointing project on them. When the org comes under attack, the theory is that allies will come to its defense.

“There are three classes of universes. There’s your universe and that class of universe known as the other fellow’s universe and the physical universe — universes of the type of the physical universe. Now, these in essence are three types of universe. Now, there’s a law back of all this, and that is to say that a universe is subject to the postulates of the god of that universe. Let’s take the physical universe. Everybody agrees that there’s a God someplace and that the physical universe obeys His law, so forth. It’s an interesting aberration in itself. Now, it’s a little more important, however, when we apply it to Mama. Mama is the god of Mama’s universe. Everybody concedes this. Maybe she isn’t in her own mind but everybody concedes that she is.” — L. Ron Hubbard, April 12, 1954

“Believe it or not, ‘Wichita Lineman’ is one of my all time favorite songs. I’m usually in tears by the end of it.”
