On Monday, we heard from a Los Angeles reader that Scientology had done something kind of unusual, changing its annual “Maiden Voyage” schedule in order to create a last-minute “convention,” scheduled for this Saturday on L. Ron Hubbard Way, as well as an “IDEAL USA” confab that was held this past weekend at the Valley Org.
Our correspondent suspected that the hurried reschedulings and breathless promotion was really about a desperate effort to recruit new staff members for some “Ideal Orgs” that are about to open in parts of the country almost bereft of Scientologists.
Perhaps that’s the reason, perhaps not. But another LA-area reader pitched in with another peek inside what Scientology is up to: The agenda for this past weekend’s shindig at the Valley Org. We found it pretty fascinating, and we knew you’d want to see it as well.
Gosh, we only wish we’d been invited. Here’s another fun look inside what the Hubbardites are up to as they turn this country Ideal!
“Performance by James Baurber & a globally famous pianist!”
We’re going to go out on a limb and assume that this meant David Miscavige’s favorite Broadway performer, rapey James Barbour, was accompanied by Chick Corea.
And that “wedding” mentioned at the end: Is that some stunt involving a couple of mascots? Ew.
If you went to this non-stop fun-o-rama, we’d love to hear how it went down. A riot, we’re sure.
Meanwhile, following up on a couple of recent items: We told you about a mission in Sacramento that was taking the unusual step of publicly begging for money from its members so that it could go “Ideal.” Well, it put back up its GoFundMe campaign, hoping to raise enough so it can buy all the special tchotchkes from David Miscavige that are required for idealness.
So far, they’ve raised $1,450 of their $20,000 goal.
And on Sunday, Rod Keller told us about Conscience Coalition, a new anti-vaxx political action group started by Scientologists including the church’s DC lobbyist, Greg Mitchell. Another of the founding members, Renee Bessone, started up an accompanying Facebook group, “United for Parental Rights & Freedoms — Scn Group Only,” and we thought you’d be interested in her post describing its purpose…
Gosh, these Scientologists. They’ve been busy as beavers lately, working to go Ideal, recruit staff, and get into your local politics. Thankfully, our great tipsters are keeping tabs, and we do our best to stay on top of it all!
