Scientology in the time of plague: Turning to Hubbard’s words on radiation for guidance

[L. Ron Hubbard in 1957, when his book on radiation came out]

[In case you missed last night’s big news: Mark Bunker wins!]

We told you yesterday that Scientology, against all advice from public health officials, is encouraging its members to come on down to their local org for more classes.

We have more evidence of that for you today, and we’re also increasingly seeing Scientologists justify this behavior during a pandemic by citing the only source they ever really trust: Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard.

We’re seeing this in different parts of the country, which suggests that church leader David Miscavige himself has put out the word that this is how Scientology will deal with the coronavirus, by having church members come down to hear L. Ron Hubbard’s lectures about radiation…

And naturally, Scientology can’t pass up a sales opportunity, as seen in this message some Scientologists received yesterday…

Are you seeing some HYSTERIA about this place? I just ordered this from Bridge!

By 1957, the governments of the United States and the Soviet Union boasted nuclear arsenals large enough to threaten all life in the Northern Hemisphere.

But what had become increasingly clear to LRH was that atomic radiation posed another type of danger aside from its destructive force.

The mere scare of its use and the mystery of its effects could not only cause sickness by restimulating individuals, but even produce mass hysteria. And therein lay the real problem: a problem of magnitude.

With a message as relevant today as it was in 1957, in the vital lecture The Control of Hysteria, LRH lays out key stable data and tools for all Scientologists to deal with mass hysteria and bring about more sanity and certainty.

“The thing to do is to be factual about it and say, ‘Just these things are assignable to radiation.’ Assign them, take them in stride. And a government would do extremely well to work along with an organization such as the Scientologists. Do what you can about them. Publish it rather widely that you’re taking what steps that can be taken. Be factual about it the whole way. Don’t try to play it down. Don’t try to play it up. Just be factual and go on from there, not only trying to do something about that, but the million other things that make life all but impossible for people here on Earth.” — LRH lecture The Control of Hysteria, 15 April 1957

In this lecture, you’ll learn:

What is the step-by-step progression of hysteria [track 6]

How can a Scientologist bring considerable calmness into an area which is upset? [track 3]

What is the true danger of the atomic bomb? [track 10]

Why are some people incapable of receiving aid or assistance? [track 7]

Today I’m offering you this vital audio on CD (available in 17 languages) with a special copy of the article Group Dianetics.

Originally published in January 1951, this fascinating 19-page LRH article provides vital data on goal-setting and the technology of Clearing groups.

Also, Scientology orgs are targeting kids whose schools have closed…

Early Spring Break at PASADENA ORG!

Due to recent events, Pasadena Org will be offering services to children of families in need while schools are closed.

Children 5+ can be brought in to spend the day at Pasadena Org going on course, doing group processing and playing games.

Snacks and bottled water will be provided but please pack your child’s lunch and bring any activities they like.

Regarding cleanliness of spaces: Pasadena Org is taking the necessary precautions to ensure that the environment is safe and clean. The Org is thoroughly cleaned 3 times a day and is fogged with disinfectant each night to ensure our spaces are as safe and clean as possible.

Hey, why not encourage Scientologists to jump on a plane and fly to South Africa!

Or head on down to the Los Angeles org to find out how to use a laying-on-of-hands approach on your family and friends!

Do you think those cans are being properly sanitized between auditing sessions?

New Yorkers, why stay home when you can have your kids on the cans at the org!

Tampa’s got the spirit!

And at the newest Ideal Org, it’s all hands on deck for the radiation briefing!

Would a worldwide (if tiny) organization really look to a science fiction writer’s 1950s advice about atomic fallout for guidance in a 2020 pandemic?

Of course! This is Scientology we’re talking about!

“DAILY REPORT: Well, we got out of there all right. This rocking and rolling is done to condition people for the latest dance — The Wriggle and Dive. TWO WAY COMM: It was stated in yesterday’s OOD that Two Way Comm was out in Div 2 and Qual. But it even got typed wrong. ‘Ack’ was used instead of ASK. The sense of it was nobody in Div 2 or Qual ASK (not ack) anybody what it’s all about. So Two Way Comm was out all around. But all joking aside this, the most basic process we ever had, dropped out and must be gotten into action.” — L. Ron Hubbard, March 18, 1970

Overheard in the FreeZone

“The RPF was created to remove every one of the good guys who could recognize that the doppelganger was not LRH. Outside of the RPF were only new people who did not know LRH or could be cheated or agents of the enemy. The motorcycle accident helped to keep off people from ‘LRH’ as ‘he was in pain and screaming.’ Who would dare to disturb ‘LRH’ if he was so in pain and crying? Not even family members: ‘LRH’ once shouted ‘Get out of here!’ to his wife, when she was at his door.”

Random Howdy

“I found a notebook on the street back in the 90’s and it was the diary of someone who was obviously mentally ill, probably schizophrenic, and in parts it read just like a lot LRH’s ‘writings,’ like the stuff in today’s article. Looking back, I’m guessing most prophets were either schizo or con men or both, like LRH. That would explain a lot history-wise.”
