I wanted to give Scientology the benefit of the doubt. A little while ago I went by the Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Ideal Org to see how things were going. It was during a weekday and was pretty dead at the time. I did a little write up on it and Tony posted it on the Bunker.
The thing is, Scientology could argue that this wasn’t one of their busy times of the week. So I chose the historically busiest day in Scientology for any Org, which is always Sunday.
Even back in the 1970s when I was supervising the Scientology Academy at the Toronto Org I’d have a minimum of 60 students on course in the Academy on Sunday (and every Sunday). Add to that Basic Courses which Willie supervised and had another 50 students on the same day. They had to rent space above Johnny’s restaurant to house all the Basic Course students. And on top of all this were Org staff, auditors, FSMs, and PCs (preClears) in session.
So, this Sunday I had an errand to run in the area and we decided to swing by the Cambridge Org to see how the top Scientology Org for Canada was doing on the busiest day of the week.
We started off at the corner up the street from the Org where the local coffee shop was to see if there was any evidence of body routing or brochures. Nothing. No sign of either.
Then we drove a bit down the street and parked across the road from the Org for a short time. While we sat there we saw no activity of any kind. No staff or public going in and out. No body routers routing bodies. Nada.
There was an office building adjacent to the Org which had a parking lot that ran alongside the Scientology property. We drove around back and took a few photos of the cars in the enormous Scientology parking lot at the back. There was a total of 12 cars, plus the requisite yellow Scientology van.
With that many cars it could be something like 6 staff and 6 public in total. Not exactly the bustling crowd flooding an “Ideal Org” as promised by David Miscavige. And they’ve had this Org for long enough that it would have had ample time to pump up the traffic by now.
At this point I’ll stick to my earlier conclusion. Scientology in Canada is dying fast. They can take a few gasping breaths to see if they can raise enough money to renovate the Toronto Org building, but without new people coming in, and most of the old timers not bothering much at all, they are doomed to extinction.
As it is I would pretty much stick a fork in it. Done.
