Scientology’s obsession with City Councilman Mark Bunker is truly off the charts

It probably would not surprise you to learn that once Mark Bunker was elected to the Clearwater city council in March, Scientology began obsessively submitting records requests to the city to get copies of every single communication Bunker has made either on his public or private devices and social media accounts.

As a journalist, we’re very much in favor of public officials having to turn over public documents. But Scientology has always used public records requests as a weapon in its obsessive Fair Game campaigns against enemies. Indeed, Scientology’s most famous espionage and infiltration scheme, the Snow White Project of the 1970s, began in part as a public records search that extended into illegal activities.

As part of its obsessive interest in Mark Bunker, it asked for his postings here at the Underground Bunker, and so Mark sent us an email about his Disqus postings and asked for help retrieving them. In that email, he attached Scientology’s most recent request from Flag Service Organization secretary Glen Stilo.

So we thought we’d share it with you to see how Scientology is literally going nuts over everything Mark Bunker says or writes.

Stilo takes some shots at people, including your Proprietor, whom he says “operated” the website Backpage.com. Because Scientology has nothing else they can throw at us, they repeat this lie over and over. We operated the Village Voice. Backpage was a separate company and a separate website we had nothing to do with, but that doesn’t stop Scientology from pretending that we did.

Anyway, we think you’ll find the letter and its attachment pretty interesting as Stilo pores over texts and emails that Bunker has already turned over, including private conversations with Leah Remini, Mike Rinder, and US Weekly reporter Jen Heger.

Mark Parry-Maddocks will likely be intrigued to find that one of his pieces of artwork has been memorialized by the church.

But it’s not all fun and games. At one point Bunker said in a social media comment that since he was elected he’s been receiving messages from Sea Org family members asking him if he can find out whether their loved ones have been affected by the coronavirus.

Make no mistake, Scientology wants those messages to Bunker so they can learn which Sea Org member families are making these requests. And not for good reasons.

Pore through these documents and let us know what you think.

“I notice now that there’s a lot of doubt and wonder about ethics and so on, here and there and so forth. What is ethics? I just heard one from Chicago, just before I came to the lecture and so forth. ‘Scientology is to help, not to punish people.’ How the hell would he know? He’s never been helped by it. He’d made a lot of dough with it, but he’s never had any tone arm action I’ve ever been able to find out. Suppressive. So we are developing, simply, systems by which to handle the public at large, is all we are doing. And right now it goes in with a thud against some staff members and so forth and students collide with it and that sort of thing. Good. Get used to it. Because the action is actually intended for the public, don’t you see? But until you have a familiarity with law and order amongst yourselves and some experience with how it works and what seems unjust and what seems just and that sort of thing, you never can grab ahold of it. Now, you can’t go nonchalantly knocking off the United States government or something like that without at least issuing an HCO suppressive order, you know?” — L. Ron Hubbard, June 8, 1965

Overheard in the FreeZone

“Please read or listen to LRH taped lecture ‘THE FREE BEING.’ In it LRH explains how OTs must work ORGANIZED. Otherwise the individualistic OTs will lose the war when facing super organized Meat bodies, entities and BTs (‘lesser beings,’ the taped lecture actual words). An OT Committee is organization, management.”
