On Sunday, Mike Rinder posed a great question about the ongoing relationship between Scientology (which pretends it’s a force for human rights) and the Nation of Islam, a black nationalist movement whose leader, Louis Farrakhan, isn’t shy about demonizing whites and Jewish people.
Mike was specifically pointing to the work of Nation of Islam figure Sister Nayyirah Muhammad, who is putting on Dianetics (Scientology) seminars under the banner “Repair of the Black Family.”
In the past, we’ve noted that Sister Muhammad has also put on Dianetics seminars promising attendees that they’ll learn how to make their child a “god.” While most Scientologists rarely use language this plain, it is true that Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard promised repeatedly that the end result of his counseling was to give Scientologists back the godlike powers they had lost after trillions of years of existence.
And while it’s fine for adults to believe that they are fallen trillion-year-old gods seeking to recover their ability to, as Hubbard put it, crush a planet between thumb and forefinger, Sister Muhammad’s seminars always seem to target not just fellow adults but also children.
We were reminded of that when a tipster pointed out that Sister Muhammad has a “Repair of the Black Family” seminar planned for July 27 at a location she lists only as 2100 26th Avenue South, St. Petersburg, Florida.
Surprisingly, that address translates to a YMCA preschool and daycare, the Speer YMCA Preschool Academy.
One thing you should know about Pinellas County, which includes St. Petersburg: It’s lousy with Scientology facilities. They dot the county, and there’s simply no reason why they wouldn’t have room to host a Dianetics seminar — it’s their bread and butter.
So why else hold a Dianetics seminar at a YMCA preschool if you weren’t aiming at young parents and their toddlers?
We asked that question of Speer Academy director Geneka Green, and we’ll let you know if she gets back to us.

‘Dr.’ Meghan Fialkoff has her annual party with the NYPD
It was time again for Queens dentist Ben Fialkoff and his daughter Meghan, both Scientology Freedom Medal award winners, to hand out awards to members of the NYPD and other local luminaries to thank them for help infiltrating New York City schools with L. Ron Hubbard’s quack ideas about drug abuse. Here are some images from their 12th annual Drug Free Hero Awards shindig….

HowdyCon 2019 in Los Angeles
THURSDAY NIGHT OPPORTUNITY: This year’s HowdyCon is in Los Angeles. People tend to come in starting on Thursday, and that evening we will have a casual get-together at a watering hole. But we also want to point out that Cathy Schenkelberg’s “Squeeze My Cans” will be running at the Hollywood Fringe, and we encourage HowdyCon attendees to see her show on Thursday night, June 20. Tickets and more dates available here.
Friday night June 21 we will be having an event in a theater (like we did on Saturday night last year in Chicago). There will not be a charge to attend this event, but if you want to attend, you need to RSVP with your proprietor at tonyo94 AT gmail.
On Saturday, we are joining forces with Janis Gillham Grady, who is having a reunion in honor of the late Bill Franks. Originally, we thought this event might take place in Riverside, but instead it’s in the Los Angeles area. If you wish to attend the reunion, you will need to RSVP with Janis (janisgrady AT gmail), and there will be a small contribution she’s asking for in order to help cover her costs.
HOTEL: Janis tells us she’s worked out a deal with Hampton Inn and Suites, at 7501 North Glenoaks Blvd, Burbank, (818) 768-1106. We have a $159 nightly rate for June 19 to 22. Note: You need to ask for the “family reunion” special rate.
