Scientology mail contract worth $5 million a year says firm suing a former employee

An international mailing company, Asendia, is suing its former vice president of operations, accusing him of luring away the Church of Scientology, a client that was worth $5 million a year.

According to the lawsuit filed in federal court in New Jersey, Asendia gained Scientology as a client 15 years ago and put VP Gene Donohoe in charge of the account in 2017. But instead of helping the company service the account, Donohoe then secretly plotted to take it away from Asendia by quietly creating his own Florida firm, PPM, last fall.

Donohoe was able to do that, the lawsuit claims, because he made use of proprietory information about Asendia’s pricing and history, and so was able to lure away Scientology by offering better terms.

Donohoe left Asendia at the beginning of the year and his photo has been scrubbed from Asendia’s website. But we found an earlier version of the site that still contained his photo, above.

We’re less interested in the fight between Asendia and its former VP and more astounded simply by the amount of money that Scientology spends to send out its mountain of junk mail every year. We have a feeling that Asendia was only one of the firms that Scientology must employ to make sure that its endless stream of mailers, DVDs and other crap keep going to people around the globe.

The printing plant that Scientology operates in Southern California is so huge and puts out so much mail, the US Postal Service actually maintains an employee on site to help handle all of the stuff going into the US Mails. (Asendia probably only handles some of the international load.)

Here’s a question that came in to askascientologist@tonyortega.org, and we thought Phil Jones might be the best person to answer it. If you have a question for one of our many experts, please send it in!

Is it true that even married couples do not discuss their ‘case’ with each other? On a similar note, how common is it for one spouse to write a Knowledge Report about the other? It seems to me that trading KRs and discussing case would be unpleasant for both spouses, and bad for any relationship.

Neither Willie nor I ever wrote the other up even once in 40 years of being married while in Scientology. But, I’ve known couples who did this on a regular basis. The couples I knew about who wrote KRs on their spouse didn’t last as a married couple. As for talking about case, that wasn’t something I remember doing much of, if at all, but we didn’t hold back in discussing difficulties. There wasn’t really much talk of past lives or things like that with us. Maybe a mention here and there but not a lot. Definitely no talk of OT levels though. Once I did OT III and IV it was forbidden to talk about it so I never did. After leaving Scientology though, I showed Willie the “scoop” on BTs. Amazingly, she’s alive to this day. No pneumonia or bursting into flames at all. I think in general Scientology married couples don’t talk about their cases in-depth, or discuss past lives much if at all. Again though, I’ve known people in Scientology who just can’t help themselves. There were definitely some cringe-worthy times over the years where a Scientologist would spew out some past-life stuff. It seems to me it was more prevalent in the early days. Back in the ’70s we seemed to have more fringe types (read crazies). These days the crazies apparently have all gone over to the Freezone.
