Here’s the Kent team’s 3rd lawsuit against Scientology and David Miscavige — dive in!

As Tracey McManus at the Tampa Bay Times just reported, a third lawsuit from the Brian Kent-Marci Hamilton team has been filed against the Church of Scientology and David Miscavige.

The first two were filed in Los Angeles, but this one was filed in Miami-Dade Circuit Court, and we have the complaint for you to go over. We just got the document ourselves, so help us find the best bits of it.

Here’s what Tracey said about it:

A 25-year-old woman alleges she was repeatedly sexually assaulted as a child in Scientology’s care, including at the church’s Clearwater Academy. On top of the abuse, the lawsuit explains how church officials allegedly knew it was occurring and did nothing to stop it or alert law enforcement, actions rooted in policy written by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. When the woman spoke of her alleged abuse after leaving Scientology in 2018, the church deployed a campaign of harassment against her, a tactic also based on Hubbard’s Fair Game policy aimed to destroy those labeled as enemies.

And here’s the document itself. We know who the person is being referred to as “Jane Doe” in it, and in fact we’ve written about her here before. But because the lawsuit alleges sexual assault, we won’t be referring to her real name.

Some excerpts…

60. This abuse included, but was not limited to:
a. Multiple instances when the employee forced Jane Doe and other young girls to perform sexual acts on each other;
b. Multiple instances when the employee masturbated in the presence of Jane Doe and ejaculated on Jane Doe; and
c. At least once instance when the employee forced his penis into Jane Doe’s mouth.
61. Jane Doe reported this abuse to other employees of Clearwater Academy on multiple occasions and no action was taken to remove the employee from the school.

64. After this time, when Jane Doe was only eleven years old, she was sent by Scientology to live in Caracas, Venezuela, without her parents.
65. During this time, when Jane Doe was twelve years old, Jane Doe was violently sexually assaulted on the premises of the Caracas Org by the adult son of wealthy, high-ranking scientologists.
66. Jane Doe immediately reported this incident to her auditor. Jane Doe’s auditor got extremely angry at Jane Doe, instead of her attacker, and subjected her to punishment as a result of the report.
67. Specifically, the Institutional Defendants “sentenced” Jane Doe to three months of hard, physical labor. Other members were ordered not to speak to Jane Doe during this time. The Institutional Defendants issued a “non-enturbulation” order against Jane Doe, which is a form of punishment warning Jane Doe that she was at risk of losing good standing with Scientology because of her actions of “bringing-in” (or causing through her own actions) the sexual assault.

72. Eventually, in 2018, Jane Doe escaped from Scientology. After that time, the Institutional Defendants have launched a fair-gaming campaign against Jane Doe. The Institutional Defendants’ fair game attacks include, but are not limited to, tampering with Jane Doe’s vehicle, including cutting her brake lines; vandalizing her property; following her; surveilling her; and conducting hundreds of spam/crank phone calls to Jane Doe’s phone.

 
UPDATE: We just wanted to add a note that might seem obvious to most of our readers but might require saying for people just coming to this material. (And it was something New York magazine got wrong about the last lawsuit, and never corrected even though we made multiple attempts to point out their error.) Here it is: The “Jane Doe” in the first lawsuit (actually Valerie Haney), Jane Doe #1 and Jane Doe #2 in the Danny Masterson lawsuit, and the Jane Doe in this new lawsuit are FOUR DIFFERENT WOMEN. (We know this because we know all four of them.) The legal team might have taken some trouble to make that more obvious, but they probably assumed that no one would assume otherwise.
