Scientology’s Joy Villa is such a notorious wingnut, Democrats are fundraising off of her

[Joy Villa and Steve Bannon]

Time and again, we have tried to warn people that Joy Villa’s act that has made her a spectacle in conservative politics should be seen in the context of her longer association with Scientology. She’s a climber who accidentally stumbled on celebrity by wearing a pro-Trump dress designed by a friend at the 2017 Grammys, and she’s traded on that notoriety ever since.

At one point, she was considering a run for Congress of her own, but enough figures on the political right soured on her Scientology loyalty that she had to put those ambitions aside. Some Trump supporters still show interest in her, however, and Villa does her best to capitalize on it.

Villa is scheduled to make an appearance today in Richmond at an election rally for Amanda Chase, a Republican state senator seeking reelection.

But here’s the twist we found entertaining. Joy Villa’s political views are now so notorious, Democrats in Virginia are actually fundraising on her plans to help out Chase!

Notice there’s nothing in there about the fact that Villa is a “Patron Meritorious” of the Church of Scientology, having donated at least $250,000 to its membership organization, the International Association of Scientologists. Apparently, her utterances about public policy are enough to make her notorious as an “extremist.”

She really has become a celebrity of sorts — what she always wanted!
