[Scientology’s former celebs, Beck Hansen and Leah Remini]Musician Beck Hansen’s fans were celebrating the news this weekend that in an interview he gave to an Australian newspaper he said in no uncertain terms, “I’m not a Scientologist.” Continue reading Leah Remini calls Beck’s sudden Scientology defection a ‘pussy move’

Australia’s largest city, Sydney, is surrounded by brush fires. Smoke covered the city this week leading some residents to seek medical attention. Six have died so far and more than 2.5 million acres and hundreds of homes have been burned. As we reported last year, disasters of this scale are an opportunity for Scientology to work on “safepointing” their Ideal Orgs, and to disseminate founder L. Ron Hubbard’s “assist” technology (light massages with quack healing claims). Continue reading Scientologists use faith healing to convince fire victims they’re actually helping

Last year, German publishing giant Bauer sold In Touch magazine to American Media Inc., the company that owns the National Enquirer. Continue reading In Touch sold out to Enquirer’s parent, so now it starts up with the Tom-foolery
[David Miscavige, dapper ecclesiastical pontiff]Over the last couple of days, we’ve been telling you that David Miscavige is challenging a lawsuit that names him as a defendant. It’s the lawsuit that four women have filed against Scientologist actor Danny Masterson over allegations of violent rape, and also allegations that Miscavige and Scientology retaliated against them (as well as one of the women’s husbands) when they came forward to law enforcement in 2016. Continue reading Scientology leader David Miscavige threatens to out Jane Does suing Danny Masterson
[Team Miscavige: Riffer, Forman, Hinks]Yesterday we told you that when we learned Scientology leader David Miscavige notified the Los Angeles Superior Court that he had been improperly served a lawsuit regarding rape allegations against Scientologist actor Danny Masterson, we took a stab at what we thought might be the argument his attorneys would be making. Continue reading Scientology not only wants Danny Masterson rape lawsuit quashed, it wants sanctions
[David Miscavige: Catch me if you can]In a classic case of Scientology legal calisthenics, David Miscavige’s attorneys have informed the Los Angeles Superior Court that it is moving to quash Miscavige’s participation as a defendant in a lawsuit filed August 22, claiming that notice of the lawsuit wasn’t served on the Scientology leader properly. Continue reading Scientology leader David Miscavige: Screw your lawsuit, you didn’t serve me properly
[Nan with Jon Atack in Toronto in 2015]Last night, we learned from Nan McLean’s granddaughter Phaedra Fairwell that Nan, a veteran of vicious Fair Game attacks after leaving Scientology and going public in the 1970s, died yesterday at Southlake Regional Hospital in Newmarket, Ontario. She was 96 years old. Continue reading Nan McLean, 1923-2019: One of the bravest women who ever exposed Scientology’s abuses

Some time ago, we were fortunate to get access to new documents about Scientology released by the FBI to dogged Freedom of Information Act journalist Emma Best and the Muckrock website. Continue reading SCIENTOLOGY DOCUMENT LEAKS: Stunning new revelations span the 1960s to 2017

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) has a new article on its blog that deserves comment. CCHR has a harder time than other Scientology front groups who can keep their writings based on some truth in their chosen issue. Foundation for a Drug Free World can write truthfully about how using illegal drugs is bad. Youth for Human Rights can write about the importance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. But CCHR is stuck inventing its arguments entirely based on the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard. Continue reading Scientology’s sleep cures are enough to keep you up at night

Last Saturday, we had fun posting a 1995 Scientology bulletin that banned Scientologists from reading the 1989 ancient aliens book The Gods of Eden and warned against interacting with its author, former church member William Bramley. In our comments section, Bramley reached out to us and said he was interested in answering Scientology’s criticisms of him. We thought that was a terrific idea, and asked him to swing away at the church’s document. We hope you enjoy his lengthy response. Continue reading Scientology banned his book and trashed him as an apostate. Here’s his full-throated reply!
