As Tracey McManus at the Tampa Bay Times just reported, a third lawsuit from the Brian Kent-Marci Hamilton team has been filed against the Church of Scientology and David Miscavige. Time and again, we have tried to warn people that Joy Villa’s act that has made her a spectacle in conservative politics should be seen in the context of her longer association with Scientology. She’s a climber who accidentally stumbled on celebrity by wearing a pro-Trump dress designed by a friend at the 2017 Grammys, and she’s traded on that notoriety ever since. A woman named Hanan Islam and three of her children and others were arrested and faced felony charges for running a multi-million dollar scam involving a jackleg Scientology drug rehab clinic in Compton, a working class suburb. The Church of Scientology is presently trying to make news by having its ambulance-chasing and photo-op-opportunists — a/k/a the Volunteer Ministers — rush emergency supplies to The Bahamas in the wake of Hurricane Dorian.
