[Danny Masterson, Brian Kent, and Marci Hamilton]Last year, a group of high-profile attorneys based in Philadelphia who had made names for themselves suing or prosecuting on behalf of people who had been victimized by Catholic priests, massage parlors, and even Bill Cosby set their sights on the Church of Scientology. They filed three big lawsuits, and the second of them was a real doozy: In August they filed a lawsuit on behalf of the four women who had come forward to the Los Angeles Police Department with allegations that they had been violently raped by Scientologist actor Danny Masterson. They’re suing Masterson, Scientology, and Scientology leader David Miscavige for what they claim has been a coordinated campaign of harassment since the women came forward to the LAPD in 2016. For years we’ve pointed out the dishonest tabloid formula that gets used again and again in stories about Scientology: The publication promises a huge bombshell on the cover but when you turn to the story inside, it’s almost always just another clip job with breathless expressions of amazement about how incredible it would be if Tom Cruise left Scientology or reunited with Suri or whatever the MacGuffin is this time. Continue reading Tom Cruise on InTouch cover: Another completely oversold Scientology clip job

[Defendant David Miscavige]Just days before a major showdown hearing was scheduled for April 20 (and was likely to be put back for the pandemic), “Jane Doe” has filed a new amended complaint in her lawsuit against the Church of Scientology and its leader David Miscavige that will upend scheduling in the case. Continue reading New amended complaint packs a wallop in Miami Scientology child sex assault lawsuit
[Justin Craig]Two years ago today, we published one of the most remarkable interviews that we’ve ever experienced here at the Bunker, a conversation we had with ex-convict Justin Craig, who had legally changed his name to “Lafayette Ronald Hubbard” in 2017. Continue reading Ex-con who says he’s returned L. Ron Hubbard has an indie Scientology revolt on his hands
[Danny delayed, Shelly ordered]As we expected, court dates in the lawsuit filed by Danny Masterson’s accusers have been moved back because of the pandemic. Continue reading ‘Rona blues: Court delays, Shelly on the menu, and more Scientology nonsense
[Scientology’s Liv Watson and AOLA, where you can spurn the media and go OT!]The Church of Scientology knows its audience. It is quite aware that Scientologists tend to be conspiracy-minded individuals who mistrust the media and authority figures such as medical professionals. Like so many others, Scientologists have grave doubts about what health officials are telling us about the coronavirus pandemic. So we got a kick out of this latest come-on that one of our tipsters forwarded to us. Continue reading Scientology logic: Blame the media for fake virus news while promising superhuman powers
