VALERIE HANEY PETITION DENIED: She’ll have to go through Scientology ‘arbitration’ to appeal

Valerie Haney’s long-shot petition for a writ of mandate has been turned down by California’s 2nd Appellate District, and so now if she still wants to appeal the lower court ruling that derailed her lawsuit, she’ll actually have to go through with Scientology’s “religious arbitration” and then appeal the result.

The Top 25 People Enabling Scientology, No. 11: Gary Soter

Calabasas, California attorney Gary Soter has turned up numerous times in our stories as a legal water carrier for Scientology. We couldn’t help picking him out in the New Braunfels, Texas courtroom when he was the tallest attorney in the room, towering over the rest of the lawyer scrum representing the church in its battle against Monique Rathbun. At one point, he showed a flash of anger that a reporter was taking photos in his direction, and he was quite intimidating. But there was nothing he could do about it, it was a public hearing after all.

On Saturday, we downloaded a court document and were shocked to see what it contained: The real name of one of the “Jane Does” suing Danny Masterson and the Church of Scientology.

The document had been put into the court record by Masterson through his attorney, and over the next few days we watched the docket to see how long it would remain public and what was being done to remedy it.
