Scientology attorney Bert Deixler takes another swing at Karen de la Carriere

Bert Deixler

Bert Deixler

In January, Karen de la Carriere shared with us the threat letter she received from Scientology attorney Bert Deixler. You may remember how over the top it was; Deixler said in the letter that Karen should be “ashamed” for helping a television production company put together a piece about Phil and Willie Jones trying to reconnect with their grown children, Mike and Emily, who are members of Scientology’s Sea Org.

Karen told us the letter amused her: She’d had nothing to do with the television team filming Phil and Willie. And it was pretty obvious from the way Deixler laid it on thick about how much shame Karen should be feeling that he couldn’t be too serious about suing her.

Karen had attorney Leslie Hyman respond for her, complaining to Deixler that the church had already been notified by Karen’s lawyer Ray Jeffrey that letters to her should be addressed to him, and not directly to Karen.

Well, Deixler sent a response, and once again, Karen has shared it with us. We think you’re going to be entertained once again by Deixler’s bluster. Here’s the full text of the letter…

Dear Ms. Hyman:

I have received on February 8 your letter dated February 4. Since your letter begins with a lie I deem no other part of the letter worthy of substantive response.

Let me identify the lie. At no time, ever, neither orally, in writing nor even by smoke signals have I ever been requested by Ray Jeffrey to communicate in any way with Ms. de la Carriere. Indeed, I have never discussed her in any fashion with Mr. Jeffrey on any occasion. Since I have recently learned of other prevarications by Mr. Jeffrey, I will assume that he has lied to you about this topic and that you merely are publishing that lie. I am open, however, to the idea that the lie is one of your concoction. Please sort it out with Mr. Jeffrey and let me know which of you accepts responsibility.

As to your demand that I produce evidence, I’ve found that production of evidence is best done in courtrooms. That is where I do intend to demonstrate your client’s hip deep involvement in this disgraceful, intentional infliction of emotional distress and false light invasion of Mr. Jones’ privacy designed to embarrass him and to enrich Sirens Media, its respresentatives and those who hope to split the swag with them. In the interim, if you want to better understand Ms. de la Carriere’s involvement in the conspiracy, I’d suggest you start with her, then check with the Sirens Media representatives and finally with Mr. Jones’ parents. If they are truthful with you or have any sense of shame, all of your questions will be addressed.

Let me leave you with a question, will you accept service of process on behalf of Ms. de la Carriere, or should we effect service of process on her directly?

As is clear from the above, this letter is not intended to be a full factual or legal recital. All rights are expressly reserved,

Sincerely,

Bert H. Deixler

We sure hope it’s as we suspect, that Deixler is just taking dictation from Scientology leader David Miscavige. Because it’s hard to believe that Bert is coming up with this stuff on his own.

You have to love that threat about hey, where do I send the lawsuit. We’ve heard schoolyard taunts more believable than that.

Anyway, as always we’d love to hear your thoughts about Bert’s diction.
