‘Going Clear’ subject Hana Eltringham Whitfield fills us in on a Scientology secret or two

Hana_Whitfield_GC2
Here’s another still from Alex Gibney’s documentary Going Clear, airing a week from tonight at 8 pm on HBO. This screenshot features one of the real stars of the movie, Hana Eltringham Whitfield.

Hana was one of Scientology’s original Sea Org members in 1967, and captained a couple of the vessels in L. Ron Hubbard’s small armada when he ran Scientology from sea until 1975. In the film, she provides key insights about what it was like to work with Hubbard, and how she reacted when she encountered the OT III materials when they were first released in 1968. Her account is one of the best parts of Going Clear‘s first half, and it was a delight to see so much of her on the big screen.

But her journey has many more amazing twists and turns than were able to fit in either Gibney’s film or Lawrence Wright’s epic book. And that’s why we’re happy to report that Hana has revealed to us that she has written a book proposal of her own and several chapters that she’s let us see, and it is material that will knock your socks off.

We also had a long telephone conversation with Hana to talk about her plans for the book, and we learned even more about her singular life. She explained to us, for example, that Scientology was her second controlling group — earlier, she’d escaped what she calls a “family cult.”

If you’ve read some of the smear material that Scientology puts out about Hana — at its Freedom magazine website now, but for many years in classic Scientology “Dead Agent” packs that it handed out or posted online — you might know that Scientology accuses Hana of helping to murder her own father, who was killed by her brother in 1964.

Hana let us in on the actual story, which is mindblowing, and should take up a gripping part of her book.

In 1965, searching for a new life, she joined Scientology. And only two years later, she found herself being assigned as captain of the Avon River, which was later renamed the Athena. Hubbard was on the flagship, originally the Royal Scotman and renamed the Apollo.

At one point, she says, the Royal Scotman was sailing to Tunisia while her ship was in Valencia. They communicated by bouncing transmissions off the stratosphere. And that’s when someone came running to get Hana, telling her to get up to the bridge right away.

It was Hubbard, calling from his ship, and Hana could hardly believe it when she heard him.

“The old man was on the radio, crying. He was blubbering. ‘I can’t stand it anymore, I can’t control this ship. I can’t control these recruits. Set sail immediately and meet us in Tunis,’ he said. I found out later that the Royal Scotman had just received 100 brand new Scientologists who didn’t know a ship from a hole in the ground. Hubbard was going crazy. His plan was to make me captain of the Royal Scotman,” Hana told us. “But we got held up by weather. And I was thankful.”

Later, when Hubbard made port in Corfu, Greece and gave the ships all new names after Greek gods — the Apollo, Athena, and Diana, he did make Hana captain of his flagship. But then, in 1969, he asked her to go to Los Angeles with 15 other people that he wanted to take over the Advanced Org there (AOLA). He had previously sent an earlier captain of the flagship, Bill Robertson, to turn things around at AOLA, but now Robertson needed replacing.

She was there for three years until she was recalled to the Athena in the Atlantic, and stayed with the armada until Hubbard’s sea experiment was finally ended in 1975 in the Caribbean.

Hana was then part of the surreptitious takeover of Clearwater, Florida, which became the new “Flag Land Base.” One of her responsibilities was to create the new floorplan for the Fort Harrison Hotel, the new spiritual mecca of Scientology.

Increasingly, however, she had trouble with headaches and she had, as she says in the film, real problems with OT 3 and the subsequent upper levels that were about removing “body thetans” (invisible alien soul-entities) through auditing. In 1979, the needle on the e-meter during one of her sessions displayed what was known as a “rock slam” — a sudden left-right slashing motion which supposedly indicates “evil intent.” So she was assigned to the Sea Org’s prison detail, the Rehabilitation Project Force, which was housed in the Fort Harrison Hotel’s parking garage — and she was stuck there for a full year. Still, she stayed in the Sea Org for a few more years before she finally left for good in 1982.

Two years later, she met Jerry Whitfield, who had had his own experience with a Scientology front group — Narconon.

The two of them were married at the end of 1985, and they developed a strong desire to help other people get away from Scientology. They began doing interventions with Scientologists in 1987, and they became experts with an 80 percent success rate as they worked with distraught families through 2004.

That’s where Hana’s book proposal really shines. She makes it clear that she and Jerry didn’t consider themselves “deprogrammers,” and never held anyone against their will. But they developed a technique for simply talking to a Scientologist that had uncanny results.

But the entire time, they were experiencing one of the fiercest campaigns of Fair Game anyone has ever seen. Just a taste of it — involving a car chase through hedgerow country in England that Hana describes cinematically, had us clamoring for more.

Another example: In 1992, Scientology’s Office of Special Affairs began an elaborate and expensive plot in South Africa, hiring a local private investigation firm to track down legal figures and lobby law enforcement in an attempt to get the death of Hana’s father re-opened and to get Hana indicted as a co-conspirator. The police were eventually told what was really going on, and they assured Hana that she wasn’t going to be charged with anything. But Scientology’s expenses had to be huge for that ultimately futile operation.

Now, Hana is one of the surprising stars of Going Clear, and we have a feeling a lot of people are going to want to see her proposal and consider publishing her book. We think it’s going to be a page-turner.

Ladies and gentlemen, exhibit A: Vileda, perfectly programmed and about to be very, very sorry on the RPF for the “Davey’s not important” comment
    (f5)
Thx to yesterday’s commenter for this, it’s too good not to reuse.

    • Observer

I’m wondering if maybe that statement was ordered by Captain Miscavige himself–that way if Vileda blows and accuses him, he can hide behind it and use it in an attempt to discredit him/her, and also use it in other situations like Monique’s lawsuit. It’ll be interesting to see if any other of our “handlers” use it.

      • Robert Eckert

“I ordered it to happen on the order of David Miscavige,” Rathbun said. The church and Miscavige vehemently denied this.

      • Juicer77

I dunno, he would never, even by a 2nd party, state that he was unimportant. Does not compute in his brain!

    • aegerprimo

I commented yesterday… please check that the London number works. I remember someone mentioned at WWP last year on one of the Red X threads that the number no longer exists. Please, someone in the UK please try the London number to see if it is active or defunct. Thanx!

Here are graphics with the 1-866-X-SeaOrg number anyone can post. These are made by various Bunkeroos.

        Good catch. Thanks!

        • i-Betty

Yes, Aeger is right – we left messages on its answerphone several times and nobody ever got back to us, so it’s probably safe to assume its no longer in use.

Afternoon, Bunkeroos. Interesting visit by a Public today. Thanks for engaging him or her. Hopefully they stick around. Enjoying a nice beverage today between writing jags. So much to do.

    • i-Betty

      Good 🙂

    • Robert Eckert

It may have just been Marco: he was sure in a hurry to leave once Noseinabk posted the Marco connection.

      • TonyOrtega

Marcotai has been visiting lately. Could definitely be him.

      • Juicer77

Do we think this Marco is a public or on staff?

        • Robert Eckert

Apparently a public who gets assigned to these kinds of posting duties as a “liability formula” to get out of trouble. He is from Italy but has been living in Phuket Thailand most of the last several years. He has posted at Tony’s under multiple aliases since Village Voice days.

          • Juicer77

I guess the “Dave’s not important to us Scientologists” comment really puzzles me , then. That will NOT get him out of liability.

            • Robert Eckert

Memory lane for me: that’s about a week after I started reading Tony, a while before I first posted.

            • Mrs. V.

Yeah, right at the beginning for me, too. I was way too shy to post at that time.

            • Robert Eckert

A link to Tony’s “Top 25” (when Tony was just getting started with the list) was forwarded to me by a friend. The first that I read was Amy Scobee and I had to go back and read the previous entries. I have been hooked since.

            • stillgrace2

Tony’s “Top 25” lured me in, also. I was hooked instantly, and couldn’t wait for the next installment. Good times.

            • Kestrel

That’s about the time I started reading Tony’s posts on the Village Voice.

    • Ardent

      Enjoy the day!

  • ATTENTION BUNKERMONKEYSLRH: The Target 2 Chronicles update. For the saga’s loyal fans, I wanted both of you to know that the next chapter is done. It’s being edited today and I’ll be releasing it next Sunday to honor the HBO premiere of Going Clear. Sorry it took so long to get done but I had worked myself into a major freakout over having to wrap the whole thing up in some kind of perfect finale. This resulted in total mindlock. Then I was reminded that the whole reason for writing the damn thing was because if was fun. Thinking it had to be anything other than that was a good lesson for me. I have to be creative for a living and writing this was actually helpful in my daily endeavors. So, I’m not going to “finish” it. I’m just gonna keep writing as the Evil Galactic Overlord moves me and see where it goes. Thanks for your patience.

Now back to commenting about the awesome Hana Eltringham. And elegant hero if there ever was one.

    • Panopea Abrupta

This means there will be MOAR (and MOAR)?

You made clear the characters are going to be there a long time. Plenty of space to play in. Have fun and IMO, like me, your readers will too.

    • Dancing Cranberry

I’m looking forward to it, Artoo! I love your writing. i’m glad you are back to enjoying it.

      • I hope you have a taste for the absurd:)

        • Free Minds, Free Hearts

I am totally enjoying it! I never read it earlier since I couldn’t take on anything else – can’t even keep up with the Bunker comments!

    Seems appropriate for today.

  • i-Betty

Has someone already posted Tom de Vocht’s tweet with the image of the slashed tyre?

    • Free Minds, Free Hearts

Yes, it was posted yesterday but I do not remember who posted it.

      • i-Betty

Thanks, Free – I assumed it must have been 🙂

        • Free Minds, Free Hearts

It would be nice to have Tony link it to the story.

          • Betsy

            Yes, I want to know!

      • Peggy oh!

I just can’t figure out how to effectively follow this forum! Today I find I missed Hana’s comments yesterday and now this and sadly I was practically glued to the bunker yesterday. 🙁

        • Mrs. V.

It’s difficult sometimes to go through every post since there’s so many of them lately. You’ll see multiple posts sometimes just so everyone can see what was said.

        • i-Betty

Peggy, I’m pretty certain Hana’s comment would have been one of the most upvoted yesterday. Go to yesterday’s blog, change the comment filter to ‘BEST’ and you should find her somewhere very near the top. It’s very well worth reading 🙂

          • Peggy oh!

Thanks i-Betty! I think I was frustrated because I go back and forth from best to new to try and keep up, and read the new comment pop ups and still I feel I miss everything!

I guess I’ll get a hang of it soon I hope.

            • i-Betty

I’m so sorry, Peggy! It was actually 2 days ago. I’ve found Hana’s most interesting comment and you can link directly to it from here:

            • Peggy oh!

Oh thank you! I just went thru all of yesterday’s top posts! I was so dejected to not find it!

Very gruesome stuff. It occurs to me that those children would be in their fifties now. I hope they made it alive. I wonder where they are.

Would be great if they could come forward too!

    • TonyOrtega

No, but someone did post his photo of a slashed tire.

      • i-Betty

This probably doesn’t add much, then, but I’ll post it just incase.

        • Betsy

i-B–First, good evening to you! Second…whose tire was this? I missed the whole story somehow. And what is OCMB?

          • Robert Eckert

Tom deVocht, subject of Tony’s previous column (apparently Tony is going to devote one column to each of the exes interviewed in Going Clear). OCMB or the “Clambake” is an old but still active message board founded by Andreas Heldal-Lund (the guy who persuaded Tory that wogs are not evil) back in the days when the Old Guard of protesters had few places to get together.

            • Betsy

Oh, thanks! But is the tire Tom deVocht’s?

            • Observer

              nvm

            • i-Betty

Thanks, Obs. That answered my question, too 🙂

              Bastards.

            • Observer

I edited because I had assumed. I think it’s a sound assumption, but better safe than wrong.

            • i-Betty

I’ve messaged him but he’s offline atm. I’ll update if I hear back from him.

            • villagedianne

OCMB was invaluable in my early Scientology-watching days.

          • i-Betty

Hi, Betsy! I don’t actually know who the tire belongs to; whether it is Tom’s or another ‘apostate’s’. I’d be interested in knowing, too.

Operation Clambake, as Robert says, is a superb forum and depository for dox. Karen de la Carriere has 2 threads over there which she maintains on a daily basis. I’m sure you would find them very interesting.

“Discussion of Abuses and Punishments in Radical Scientology” – http://ocmb.xenu.net/ocmb/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=41348

“Scientology SCAM “IAS” FRAUD stockpiling $$$ & MONEY issues” – http://ocmb.xenu.net/ocmb/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=215741

You’ll find so much of interest over there 🙂

            • Betsy

Thanks, i-B. I just joined OCMB and as soon as I get their confirmation e-mail I’ll go look at Karen’s threads. I try to keep up with everything she does.

            • i-Betty

It’s sometimes not very easy to join OCMB, unfortunately, Betsy. Because of terrible problems with spammers and scammers in the past, you now have to make 3 comments before your application is accepted and your comments can sometimes we swept up and deleted with the daily mountain of spam.

Have you created an account in the name of ‘Betsy’? I will ask Don Carlo and I’mglib to keep an eye out for your application and hopefully they will be happy to accept it without you having to go through the rigmarole of posting comments that rarely make it through.

            • Betsy

Oh, i-B, thanks so much if you would do that. I haven’t gotten an e-mail from them yet. Yes, I entered as “Betsy.” Thanks for offering!

            • i-Betty

              Done 🙂

            • Betsy

Thanks, i-B! I’ll head there now and see what the Karen threads are. And…goodnight to you!

I find it interesting that there are people who would so vehemently defend an abusive organization while simultaneously claiming they’re making the world a better place. The Prison of Belief is a very strong prison.

    • Sidney18511

The prison of belief. The doors are unlocking and swinging wide open like never before. They just need to walk through those prison doors.

      • Mrs. V.

Hopefully “Going Clear” will give them the nudge that they need.

And will make the outside world seem more welcoming.

I’ve lurked long enough. With Tony’s announcement of a book-in-the-works, by Hana, it’s time to join the Bunkerites. Hana, if your read this, please know we’re clamoring to know more about your years in Scientology—every word.

As for that cake, I can’t look at the decorations without thinking of Stephen King’s “The Langoliers.”

Welcome to The Bunker, Screaming Tomato.

    • Mrs. V.

      Well hello and welcome!

    • Betsy

And welcome also from me. Jump in, please!

      • ScreamingTomato

Thank you, Betsy, Mrs. V, and Ardent. I’m glad finally to climb out of my clam shell and start screaming.

        • Ardent

          Enjoy the catharsis!

    • Peggy oh!

What a great name! I came out of lurking yesterday! We can share a bunk bed here at the bunker!

      • ScreamingTomato

Thank you, Peggy oh! I chose my name in part because of a photo in Russell Miller’s “Bare-Faced Messiah” that shows Hubbard glaring (or glowering) at an unpicked tomato he’d stuck with alligator clips that led to an E-meter. You can’t make up this stuff.

      • Allie

Welcome to you, Peggy. The lurkers’ closet is emptying fast. Glad you joined the fray.

        • Peggy oh!

          Thanks Allie!

      • cathy from encino

Welcome, Peggy! Sorry I missed your Intro yesterday. There’s still lots of caek left.

        • Peggy oh!

          • cathy from encino

That’s what I did too! Only it took me a couple of months to post an Intro!

            • Peggy oh!

I was wondering if I had blew it from ever making an introduction! 🙂

            • cathy from encino

Nope, never too late! Feel free to make a fuller one if you didn’t feel your first covered the bases. Or just keep jumping in!

            • Peggy oh!

              Thanks! 🙂

    • Allie

Welcome, ST. Pull up a chair, have some caek and enjoy the ride. It’s a fun place to hang out.

    • L. Wrong Hubturd

      Ex or never-in?

      • ScreamingTomato

Never-in. I first heard of Scientology in 1970 or ’71, from a TV commercial that aired on a long-gone San Jose, CA cable station. Fast-forward to the summer of ’77, when I heard of the FBI raid that would expose Operation Snow White. And on and on to Russell Miller’s bio of Hubbard, Paulette Cooper’s “Scandal,” xenu.net, and at last to the Bunker and Going Clear (which, by the way, is terrific).

    • Observer

Come on in and make yourself comfortable! That photo is very well known in these parts:

      • ScreamingTomato

Thanks, Observer, for this and all your shoops. The photo is not the one I saw it Miller’s book, though I’m sure it was taken on the same occasion. Hubbard must have briefly been in a less-intentioned mood when the shutter was tripped.

        • Observer

Yep, we know this one too. 🙂

    • i-Betty

Hello and welcome! It’s nice to meet you 🙂

Ella, apologies for the tardy reply; I’ve been distracted. I didn’t know that tidbit about Sweeney—thanks for sharing. Every time I watch that scene I want to reach into the computer and slap Tommy Davis very, very hard.

You know those dreams you have where you have the sensation that you’re falling? Except it would be real in this case.

    • Ardent

I COULD not and WOULD not sleep in those circumstances!!!

      • Mrs. V.

I think I’d just be whimpering the entire time.

        • Ardent

Whimpering? I’d be screaming and begging to be led back to solid ground.

      • Peggy oh!

I still fall out of bed and I’m a fully grown adult! Ha

It’s true. I am a huge fan of her snark.

  • Johny

Here two questions that many can answer well here.

    1. What could be monetary value of Scientology super secrets as of today? By super secrets i mean those secrets which are not known to 99.9999% of Scientology experts or scientologists or even Scientology management and can cause billions of dollars of lawsuits on church and govt actions to shut it down permanently.

    2. how can one sell those secrets anonymously, if they have them? Remember, it has to be sold anonymously.

Above questions should not make you assume one has those secrets.

    • Donna Cline Sargent

There are no secrets anymore. You can get them all for free on the internet. As a matter of fact there are plenty of OT’s that are out that will tell you for free.

      • Johny

        Read my question again.

        • Donna Cline Sargent

I understood the first time. And if there is a secret like that then I guess you should try TMZ or the Enquirer and try not to go to prison. Maybe FBI 🙂

          • Observer

Not TMZ. They seem to have a soft spot for the Scilons.

            • Donna Cline Sargent

rite again ! doh and really i would only trust Tony Ortega with that kind of info.

    • Free Minds, Free Hearts

      1. Value is zero. The money they collect now is all for lawyers and buildings, not for the philosophy. All the stuff on eBay is going really cheap.

      2. You can probably set up an anonymous account on eBay or craigslist to sell anything.

      • Observer

I don’t think he’s talking about any of the belief stuff.

    • Peggy oh!

      Craigslist.

    • NOLAGirl

Nobody here buys secrets. You’re looking for TMZ.

      • Donna Cline Sargent

        jinx lol

        • NOLAGirl

          ; )

    • Observer

My non-expert opinion: Assuming that you’re talking about documents proving previously unknown criminal activity, I would think selling the documents, especially anonymously, would put their authenticity in question. Someone would have to know who got them, or at least how they were obtained. If there are no documents or other hard evidence the “secrets” would be worthless.

The right thing to do would be to give the docs to a journalist (not law enforcement–there has been too much infiltration) and bring this monster factory down ASAP.

      • Billy Bob

        Then write a book.

        • Johny

so, why no FBI? Tony better than FBI?

          • i-Betty

Why? Are you intending to break the law in extracting these secrets? I’m afraid Tony wouldn’t be interested if you obtain them illegally.

      • Donna Cline Sargent

you are rite, better journalist than FBI. I would only trust Tony,or maybe Marc Ebner.

    • NOLAGirl

Ok, I’ll quit clowning you now. Assuming I was someone with secrets, knowing what I know now, I would immediately forward them to that guy Tony Ortega. I hear he knows his stuff. ; ) Good luck to you.

      • Donna Cline Sargent

I agree, I would go to Tony Ortega to be safe. He has proven to be trust worthy.

        • Johny

why would such a person not go to law enforcement?

          • Anonymous Confused Person

My recommendation to you is that you go through the entirety of “The Underground Bunker” collection of articles. it’s a lot of stuff to read, I know, but there are plenty of examples of people who’ve gone to law enforcement. Check it out and see what’s happened, and judge for yourself whether you think the effort was effective or not.

            • Johny

              so we have this question

            • Anonymous Confused Person

I don’t understand your statement. Could you clarify, please?

            • Anonymous Confused Person

I don’t know if it’s Disqus, or what, but you posted a response to my reply below in which you said:

Johny: “most of the people got in trouble. Why would someone get in to trouble?”

I still don’t follow you. What people got into what trouble, specifically?

          • i-Betty

Why? Has someone broken the law?

            • Johny

              What do you think?

            • Anonymous Confused Person

She doesn’t know. That’s why she’s asking you.

          • villagedianne

If I understand what you are asking here, sometimes the statute of limitations has run out.
In Rathbun’s case of being harassed it can be a waste of time. Get a restraining order on one harasser and COS will just send a new one to take their place. Then Rathbun would just have to start the tedious process of getting a restraining order all over again.
Sometimes actions are not illegal but are still morally wrong. Crush regging and family disconnection, for example.
Finally and worst of all, Scientology gets away with actions that would be criminal in other settings, because they have the legal status of a religion.

    • Did they drill you trolls on this “two question” tactic? It is lame and is pushing all the good shoops down.

      • Donna Cline Sargent

I guess since he is in Scientology,he thinks everyone is dishonest.

        • Douglas D. Douglas

          Not dishonest. Criminals. Actual c r i m i n a l s.

        • Johny

you seem to make many guesses

So now you are using Welsh idiom. How interesting…

            • L. C. Spencer

That or doing a bad Chevy Chase imitation.

      • Johny

You are not answering the question

    • L. C. Spencer

Trying to sell secrets like that would ruin their value; it would immediately make their authenticity suspect. Also, trying to sell them anonymously would be even worse, as then you couldn’t even show provenance. In order to show that they’re real you’d have to a) go on the record and b) be able to prove how you got them, that you have a legal right to them and that they weren’t faked or tampered with between the time they were produced and the receipt by the buyer.

In other words, your question is a non-starter. If anybody has information that “can cause billions of dollars of lawsuits on church and govt actions to shut it down permanently,” they need to make it public ASAP or risk potentially being complicit in a coverup themselves.

NOLAGirl is right, if anybody has something it needs to go to reliable journalists. In terms of the most reliable and most knowledgeable in this field, well, you’re reading his blog right now. You got something or know someone who does, take down Tony’s email address right now and get moving.

      • NOLAGirl

Actually Obs said that first. ; ) But you’re right. Send it to a reliable journalist, such as Tony.

If this person is looking just to make money. I have nothing else to say on the matter.

        • Johny

I am posting earlier response here…Thanks for reply. If somebody has spent considerable amount of money say 1 million USD in research of this religion, don’t they deserve a payback?

          • Anonymous Confused Person

What do you mean by “research”? By “somebody who has spent a considerable amount of money” are you talking about a Scientologist paying his or her way up the Bridge? Or are you talking about someone external to the cherch who is researching the cherch?

            • Johny

By research I mean some one external doing research work

            • Anonymous Confused Person

Why does this hypothetical person need to sell what they’ve found anonymously?

            • Johny

            • Anonymous Confused Person

It’s your scenario, I’m afraid, so the burden is on you to explain it. I quote, from your OP:

“2. how can one sell those secrets anonymously, if they have them? Remember, it has to be sold anonymously.”

So I ask again: why does it have to be sold anonymously?

            • Johny

              to avoid trouble?

            • Anonymous Confused Person

              What trouble?

            • Johny

those people get harassed all the time, followed and what not. They become scientology public enemy in top list. some were #1 enemy.

              Aw, you’re no fun anymore.

        • i-Betty

Turtlez should come out of retirement.

        • Ben Franklin

Johny look for information and then make up your mind. When someone tells you not to read or watch something, ask yourself why? Aren’t you an adult to read, watch, and then decide for yourself. You let other people do the thinking for you Johny, that is why you will never know the truth about Scientology.

          • Johny

            what info?

            • Anonymous Confused Person

Several people here have already given you several valuable links. I recommend that you go check those out rather than ignoring, or pretending to be ignorant of, the answers you’ve already been given.

            • Johny

I am not pretending anything. Thanks to folks who gave me info. Some are just trolls..look like they don’t have much to do but they can still contibute. I am still looking for more suggestions as there are so many knowledgeable people on this site.

            • Ben Franklin

Information about your own Church. Not information only from Freedom magazine, but from everywhere even the negative information.

            • Johny

just want to let you know, you haven’t contributed to this discussion

            • Ben Franklin

Can’t blame you because you are too brainwashed to even know that you are an independent human being who should be able to read and watch anything you like and then decide for yourself like an adult should. The church does not want you to look for information on the internet because you will learn the truth about Scientology and it is not very good.

            • Johny

Your replies are irrelevant. Try positing matter relevant to original question asked.

            • Ben Franklin

Just like your questions are irrelevant. Scientology materials do not have any value for non-scientologits. The people you should be asking are Scientologists. It is like asking a Buddhist, what he thinks is the true value of the bible.

            • Johny

You seem to know all about scientology. Face may be totally opposite

            • Ben Franklin

Johny, if a human being ever told you they know everything about anything, they are lying to you. Always, ask questions, observe with your own eyes and then judge for yourself. If someone tells you that Scientology does not have 11 million members worldwide, aren’t you curious to find out.

A lot of people out here used to be scientologists like yourself until they searched the information on the internet, and realized that a lot of things about Scientology is not true. The church does not want it’s members to know the truth, that is why they are not allowed to search for information.

            • Johny

That is not the topic of this discussion.

            • Ben Franklin

If you want a discussion, you have to ask a precise question. What you asked did not make sense to me. It was a hypothetical question.

As I said earlier, you posed your question to the wrong group of people. People here don’t put any value on Scientology material, it is all gibberish because they are not part of the religion. The only people who would see the value or care about Scientology Secret materials are Scientologists themselves.

        • pluvo

I think your grammar ‘mistakes’ are fake.

            • Robert Eckert

              Probably.

        • Robert Eckert

You spent a million dollars on black cash that has to be washed clean, again?

          • Johny

when did you last made a meaningful contribution?

          • Johny

            have you done that?

            • Robert Eckert

No, that was Marco Benagni when he was in Phuket. You know him?

        • L. C. Spencer

Nobody “has spent considerable amount of money say 1 million USD in research of this religion.” Nobody. It is not possible. The question is nonsense.

Now, a fair number of people have spent that much trying to rise in status in Scn, but if they are in for a payback the only place they’re going to get that is if they manage to get the Cherch to give them a refund.

As for “trouble”: how did you get the secrets? Did you steal them? Did you cover up crimes of the people or orgs who have these secrets? Were you part of the secrets and thus also guilty of crimes? Understand now?

TO is very good about privacy of his sources. There’s no ironclad guarantee of anonymity for anyone, ever. But your comment that he’s “not law enforcement and can’t guarantee anonymity” is very funny, because law enforcement does not do anonymity.

        • villagedianne

Thanks for reply. If somebody has spent considerable amount of money say 1 million USD in research of this religion, don’t they deserve a payback?

What exactly do you mean by a payback?

what do you think is trouble for person who goes public with such secrets? why would someone get in trouble. What could TO do protect anonymity? TO is not law enforcement and can’t guarantee anonymity.

      • Donna Cline Sargent

        well there is the answer

      • L. C. Spencer

I replied as if #2 was true, but assumed #1 was true. Didn’t even realize until it was posted, that:

#3 claim “Johny” is a major SP as part of DA attack. Rinder and Headley in one go? My my, ambitious troll is ambitious!

    • i-Betty

Psst! I’ll give you this 50 pence piece and some of my son’s navel fluff. Meet you out back in 5.

      • Johny

        understood.

    • Dancing Cranberry

Aaron Saxton spoke of LRH policies that were unknown to the vast majority of people in upper management, so I’m guessing that a few of those policies are still secret. I imagine lots of people in scientology and exes have secrets that they are not ready to share with anyone.

The question I would ask Johnny is what would the motives of the seller be? (to cause billions of dollars of lawsuits on church and govt actions to shut it down permanently? or something else? I sense that money is a huge motivator.

Who would the potential buyer be? Journalists? If so, you might speak to Tony. His email address is above.

Consider the fallout as well. Who, besides the church would come to harm as these secrets become known? As snarky and argumentative as our community sometimes is, our prime focus is on reducing abuse of people and so collaborative damage is a huge concern here. We don’t want people to be hurt.

            • ScnMonkeyNuts

Fox’ll put anything on air–let’s face it, they give Greta van Susteren a platform for her idiotic brain–diarrhoea 🙂

(ETA: Sorry DDD, didn’t look down far enough!)

    • HanniballtheFirst

Johny, let me help you out here.

#1 You did not make it explicit, but you seem to refer to the OT levels.

Now, lets do the math. Flag claims 6000 on Solot Nots, which is a joke as we all know there are no more like 1000 active on the level. That costs with 2 sec checks a year without travel and other incidentals like Super Power or IAS or Planetary Dissem Donations (you can name more) roughly $20k a year.
So now we have the first 20 Million $$$ that it is worth. Now getting to that level costs close to $200k, again not counting incidentals like required IAS Patron status (you can name more) Lets assume the CO$ makes per year 600 Clears and let us also assume 50% move up to OT VII eventually that is another 300*200k= $60 million a year.

So you are correct the fair market value is of course nil, but in the business model of the CO$ it is probably worth close to $ 100 million per year. Which makes it a very profitable racket, wouldn’t you agree.

And nobody can sue them about it, you got that wrong. It is all religious. 🙂

#2 the answer is very simple. Once somebody believes this stuff he can be sold this stuff. Nobody here believes it, so nobody will buy it.

      • Johny

Thanks for your opinion on this subject

    • Jack99

Your broken English seems to be coming and going. “Here two questions that many can answer well here.” but also “govt actions”. Make up your mind, Johny.

    • Just a Guest

Go to Time Warner headquarters or any of the BigPharma sponsored media
      just like Alex Gibney did!
Tony doesn’t have a penny, trust me.Or just go to show your evidence to the New Yorker, they will accept anything without fact-checking!

        • Bury_The_Nuts

Desperation is becoming a constant I see!

          Awesome.

        • Douglas D. Douglas

          *sniff*

          That’s beautiful.

          So… theta…

      • HanniballtheFirst

Just a Guest, you got that wrong. The New Yorker has even plenty of fact checkers on staff. The only ones that take everything out of DM’s mouth are CO$ members. Trust me no fact checking there.
And Big Pharma? Hey many of those are big money rackets too very similar to the CO$. Lots of the money the CO$ actually makes comes from the pharmaceutical industry. Look up the name Dugan and Scientology.

        • Annie Jomes

The claim about The New Yorker caught my eye, too. Of all the journalistic products one could try to claim is poor at fact-checking, The New Yorker is the absolute worst to choose. They are NOTORIOUS for having tons of fact-checkers, and for being one of the most scrupulous outfits around. Nice try, but no, Just a Guest. Just because you are ignorant of how the world works doesn’t mean everyone else is too.

      • Jack99

How many fact-checkers does Freedom have?

        • Peggy oh!

.0001 per roll of toilet paper available free to sae org members, so that works out to nada or zilch fact checkers at Freedom mag….

        • Mark Foster

Fact-checking is not required when one is fair-gaming. C’mon, we gotta keep the lie alive, oops…I mean, we have this sector of the universe to savage, er, salvage…

      • Observer

Actually, Tommy Davis and four Scientology lawyers marched into a meeting with Lawrence Wright and gave him 47 binders of documentation he used for his book. Are you saying Davis gave Wright the “lies” he supposedly based his book and Gibney based his documentary on? If so, why are the Scientologists screaming when Going Clear says what Davis and the lawyers–and by extension, COB, because it wouldn’t dare have been done without his orders–wanted it to say?

Are you aware that Scientology’s biggest (and richest) donor–Bob Duggan–got his wealth from his pharmaceutical company, Pharmacyclics? http://www.forbes.com/profile/robert-duggan/
Don’t you think it’s odd for you to rail against Big Pharma while Scientology depends on it for IAS funding?

        • Just a Guest

Go check what Pharmacyclics actually sells.

          • Robert Eckert

            It sells pharmaceuticals. Duh.

            • Just a Guest

              LOL

          • Anonymous Confused Person

According to Forbes, the source of Bob Duggan’s wealth is “pharmaceuticals, Self Made”. (source: http://www.forbes.com/profile/robert-duggan/). Is this incorrect? From its own website, it is the maker of a pharmaceutical called Imbruvica: “IMBRUVICA® is the first in a class of medicines called Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitors.” (source: http://www.pharmacyclics.com/product/about-imbruvica). Is this incorrect?

          • Allie

Tell us, Guest – you seem to be knowledgeable about it.

            • Just a Guest

“IMBRUVICA® is the first in a class of medicines called Bruton
tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitors. In simple terms, a BTK inhibitor
helps prevent B-cell activation and can lead to inhibition of the growth
and survival of malignant B cells. By blocking BTK protein, IMBRUVICA® helps reduce the number of cancer cells. It can also help slow the progression of the disease.”

            • Robert Eckert

That is what the word “pharmaceutical” refers to, if that word is beyond the scope of your vocabulary. It refers to chemicals which act within the body to cure diseases far more effectively than auditing or “postulating” or touch-assisting.

            • Allie

But Scientology doesn’t allow parishioners to take psych drugs. How is it that you’re so knowledge about this?

            • Robert Eckert

Scientology is against non-psych drugs as well. Forbidding Tory to take her epilepsy medicine, which could have killed her, was one of the bad mistakes that led to Tory blowing.

            • Just a Guest

epilepsy drugs ARE psych-drugs! Anyway don’t believe everything you read against scientology. No scientologist in his right mind will stop someone addicted to take his psychotropic drug. That would be very dangerous. Go read CCHR site and found out for yourself instead of listening bullshit made against Scientolgy

            • ScnMonkeyNuts

Yes, that’s right, listen to some bullshit made up by scientoology instead. Stop displaying your pitiful lack of knowledge in this field and call 1–866–XSEAORG, toll–free, instead. Break free of the prison in your mind.

            • Peggy oh!

No, they are not. Some epilepsy drugs created and used for epilepsy are used for some people with certain mental illnesses. Some other non psych drugs are also used to treat some mental illnesses. It’s called off label usage.

Epilepsy is as close to a mental illness as diabetes is. Diabetes may be closer as it can cause people to become disoriented or experience altered reality in a diabetic crisis.

You could get epilepsy. Anyone could. A small head injury? (From running all day?)( falling off the top triple bunk?) Malnutrition from too much rice and beans?

If you or your loved ones develop epilepsy what will you do? Die for the cause like Jett Travolta or take a simple pill, like Duggans Scientology approved (and money making) one?

            • sugarplumfairy

“…Operating Thetan levels 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are all to do with getting rid of “body thetans”. These body thetans are the souls of dead space aliens murdered by Xenu, 75 million years ago.

Scientologists believe that 75 million years ago an evil galactic ruler, named Xenu, solved overpopulation by bringing trillions of people to Earth in DC-8 space planes, stacking them around volcanoes and nuking them. Then the souls of these dead space aliens were captured and boxed up and taken to cinemas where they were shown films of what life should be like, false ideas containing God, the devil and Christ and told to get ill.

After that they supposedly clustered together and now inhabit our bodies. Scientologists believe that if they rid themselves of these body thetans then they will be healthier and will gain special powers like mind-over-matter.

Some Scientologists spend $360,000 for all this. None of them gain any special powers except the power to delude themselves…”

              =)

JaG! I just saved you $360,000.. No need for thanks..

Oops.. Forgot to give credit where credit was due: I lifted that from holysmokedotorg..

            • madame duran

Epilepsy is a medical condition, not an “addiction”. Epileptics aren’t “junkies” for wanting to take PRESCRIBED medication to manage the debilitating effects of epilepsy.

No scientologist in his right mind will stop someone addicted to take his psychotropic drug

Scientologists would do either one to two things:

              1. Send the drug user to Narconon, where they will go into a period of withdrawal without any trained medical personnel to supervise the process then meet recent Narconon graduates-turned-staff (who don’t have years of sobriety under their belt) who sneak in drugs/alcohol into the facility.

              2. Forcibly remove from one’s possession or order the cessation of taking LEGALLY PRESCRIBED MEDICATION. Even if their physical survival depended on it.

It would appear that “ethical” Scientologists would rather have people dead than unable to benefit Scientology.

Oh, about that drug that Pharmacyclics produces to combat leukemia…L. Ron Hubbard said that leukemia is “psychosomatic in origin” and can be treated through Dianetics. Contrary to what you may want to believe (or been instructed to cover up), leukemia is–according to Hubbard–a product of the reactive mind and Bob Duggan is evil for making a profit based on the sales of a useless drug just like the dreaded “psychs”. Here’s the quote (with source):

“Leukaemia is evidently psychosomatic in origin and at least eight cases of leukaemia had been treated successfully by Dianetics after medicine had traditionally given up. The source of leukaemia has been reported to be an engram containing the phrase ‘It turns my blood to water.’”

              – L. Ron Hubbard, “Journal of Scientology,” Issue 15-G, 1953
P.S. — I enjoy talking with you. Please come back again.

            • Peggy oh!

Does that mean that scientologists no longer have to handle their cancer through auditing?

Oh I get it. This is like a vitamin. Like cal mag. So it’s ok.

            • Peggy oh!

Oh also, while you’re still allowed on the Internet google cancer deaths in scientology and see how many loyal scientologists were made to forgo cancer treatment and ordered to do auditing for it instead. Or atom Cruises doctor. Charged in the deaths of scio cancer patients she encouraged to use supplements instead. 🙁 it’s a court record. We can’t make this stuff up. It’s true. 🙁

          • madame duran

It sells a leukemia fighting drug that actually works, unlike the medical quackery that L. Ron Hubbard prescribed for his followers.

In the end, it really doesn’t matter what Pharmacyclics sells because Scientology would disapprove its members from “wasting” money on it anyway. Drugs in any form–whether illicit or not; for migraines, epilepsy or schizophrenia–are collectively frowned on by Scientology as being inferior to Hubbard’s cures. When Sea Org members get sick, they’re either told to do more auditing, touch assists or do a Purification Rundown. Heading to a “wog” doctor and seeking conventional treatment as the first step is discouraged. David Miscavige has made it clear: donating to the IAS is more important than putting money towards a higher education, health insurance, retirement savings, one’s daily living expenses or leisurely pursuits. Members are amassing huge amounts of stress and debt–all of which have a profound effect on a person’s wellbeing–but the leader of Scientology doesn’t care. All that matters to him is MONEY. Everyone else can go broke, suffer poor health and lose a decent standard of living but as long as the inurement gravy train KSW keeps rolling, Miscavige is fine. THIS IS MADE POSSIBLE BY YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT OF THIS CULT ORGANIZATION.

Thank you for replying earlier. It tells me that at least you are reading.

      1. I think everyone here agrees that Scientology super secrets are priceless. That is to say, they have no inherent monetary value.
      2. One procedure I would recommend is to grasp the secrets firmly between your knees, lower your forehead until it touches the secrets, then release the secrets as you continue moving your head forward, until it is firmly wedged in the nearest orifice.

      • Johny

I understand your position on this subject. are you doing same procedure to your self?

How much you want to bet Johny, Just A Guest and V down below are the same person?

          • Robert Eckert

JAG accidentally gave away that he was the same as Johny. As for Johny=Videla, I pretty much took that as a given, from the start.

            • Free Minds, Free Hearts

V sometimes uses fractured English, and in the same post uses more sophisticated phrasing, so I think V is getting fed some lines to use, but is not actually a native speaker. probably young Eastern European/Russian at Flag, passport locked up.

            • Robert Eckert

There may be two people working together. The post claiming that Rinder and Headley were in the same room posting together on the same account was very odd, and suggested that the poster thought this was how people typically act. The one who has fractured English is probably just Marco Benagni, an Italian Scientologist who has posted on Tony’s boards (Runnin’ Scared before there was Underground Bunker) in dubious English since before I started to, formerly as “Marcotai” (“Tai” being a reference to his home in Phuket Thailand). The one with better English might even still be Bill Yaude, Tory’s old supervisor who used to post as “Turtlez”.

            • Free Minds, Free Hearts

Thank you Robert. That makes sense, Tony also thought Marco had made an appearance. It is very bizarre that he is implying that Mike R and Marc H would want to sell secrets? What a nut case.

            • Robert Eckert

More precisely Tony said that Marcotai has visited recently (some others of our recent trolls that looked Marco-like evidently left indicators of identity that Tony caught) so that it was quite possible this latest one was him also (although the evidence is not entirely conclusive). But this tag-team approach, where one sock suggests something outrageous (here, extorting money for secrets; but in past cases often violence against Miscavige or the like) and another sock pretends to argue against it, is an old classic, used to stir up dissension on message boards going back to Usenet days. OSA trolls are just so lame at executing it.

            • Free Minds, Free Hearts

They are lame at a lot of things, but do manage to successfully derail almost every time… I try to use ignore tech most of the time, but am not all that consistent about it.

            • Mymy88

INCOMING WOG QUESTION (may be off topic but maybe not)

I keep seeing the phrase straight up and vertical, what in the name of Beelzebub does that mean? Really? You just throw two synonyms together for an attempted spiffy and swell catch phrase (not so much) to describe the newest stab at non existant expansion? Is that it? Or is that a phrase that has some type of root in a LRH lexicon or tome somewhere?

So, if my guess is accurate…would the opposite of the straight up/vertical expansion campaign be:

    Decomposing and putrefying

    Stagnating and stultifying

And what does 47x have to do with anything please? I’m actually being quite sincere in this question.

    TY for any info.

    • Those are phrases from past speeches by Miscavige or church infographics that claim things like Church expansion is “straight up and vertical” or growing by “47x”

      • BraveBloggers

        TY. So essentially it’s gobbledygook?

Like saying my son is growing straight up and vertical. We were afraid he was going grow horizontal, but he came through. He’s grown 47x the size he was when he was a zygote. But I guess what I just said could actually be true, except the horizontal part.

Me thinks a new speech writer is in order among the many other changes that seem to be needed.

        • L. C. Spencer

“Straight up and vertical” in particular refers to growth being charted on a graph, that is, it’s not even a diagonal, just a vertical line on the chart. This is hilarious because Scientology charts typically lack any information or figures at all, just a squiggly upwards line.

          • Mrs. V.

And it’s impossible to show growth over a period of time as straight up and vertical. It would have to be diagonal if its showing time as well as number of orgs, people, clears, etc.

            • L. C. Spencer

Yes, it always tickled me on top of everything else that their own (useless) charts are never straight up and vertical. Because obviously, that doesn’t have the donation-inspiring drama of a squiggle that looks like a mountain climber’s journal.

            • Mrs. V.

I never thought about the *ahem* psychology behind the squiggle. Very interesting.

            • Anonymous Confused Person

If that’s the case, I am sure it is wishful thinking. And not the kind you might be thinking of, ’cause that’ll go into the PC folder to be saved for the day you’re declared.

            • Mrs. V.

I don’t understand what you mean by “wishful thinking”. I was referring to L.C.’s statement about the “donation-inspiring drama” as being a psychological attempt at getting more donations and I find it interesting that scientology would use psychology in that way.

            • Anonymous Confused Person

Ooops, I misunderstood you. I thought you wrote “physiology”, not “psychology” and thought it was a double-entendre for an erection (that’s what I get for scanning too quickly). And I was stating that the Cherch’s using graphs to suggest its own virility would be wishful thinking, and given its penchant to punish “2D” transgressions, would end up poorly for anyone involved. Sorry for the confusion!

            • Mrs. V.

Got it! And in that context your response to me is hilarious!

          Sherman-speak, to be precise.

          • Peggy oh!

I’ve wondered what/where Sherman comes from in Sherman-speak…

*everything you always wanted to know about EX-scientology but were afraid to ask

            • Robert Eckert

“The bemulleted Dan Sherman” (it should be against the law to name him without mentioning that he is bemulleted) is Miscavige’s speechwriter.

            • Peggy oh!

              Bemulletted. Love it.

            • Robert Eckert

              Tony himself coined that.

            • Peggy oh!

Ha! I’ve read an awful lot, but I don’t think I’ve quite made it through his wonderful, extensive archive!

I am thankful for all of the levity, as this is some deep dark scary shit. 🙁

            • Douglas D. Douglas

It’s called “Sherman-speak” because it is written for COB by Dan Sherman, Scientology’s official biographer of LRH.

Tony wrote a great post about this curious lingua here:

              http://tonyortega.org/2013/03/27/david-miscavige-declares-scientologys-golden-age/

            • Peggy oh!

Thank you! My head kept involuntarily picturing Sherman (from Peabody and Sherman-who I like btw-crossed with General Sherman). But I never linked Sherman with speaking as much as marching 😉

            • pluvo

If you want to have an example of David Miscavige’s “Sherman-speak” you can google: “Scientology’s New Year’s Eve celebration 2013: Ending speech by David Miscavige” (don’t want to link it here)

            • Peggy oh!

I’ve heard his crazy speak, but was wondering about the name Sherman to describe it :/

    • Billy Bob

I read here, so it may be a joke, that in some speech LRH said 7×7 …uh…47 times.

I view the Bunker in Chrome and recently Disqus comments (only here) have taken to refreshing themselves automatically every so often which takes me back to the top and makes me secretly livid. I’ve Googled and it appears to be a Chrome issue rather than a Disqus one, but it can also be the individual site itself which forces periodical refreshes. Is this happening to anyone else?

    • Mrs. V.

I don’t think I’ve had that problem yet, but I’ll pay closer attention.

        • 1subgenius

I don’t think “it’s just me” is a conclusion to be drawn from that one fact.
There may be others, so continue to compile data.
Is there a setting in Chrome for this?

          • i-Betty

The only option is to install the extension which I’ve done but it does say that it won’t work on some pages…and, of course, this is one of them 🙂

            • 1subgenius

Well I don’t have that extension and yet mine doesn’t auto-refresh, so obviously I don’t know why you would need an extension to stop something that doesn’t happen (to me).

    • Peggy oh!

I can’t ever refresh to see images because it takes me up to the top of the article and I lose my place in the comments :/

      • Robert Eckert

When you want to see an image, right-click (not left-click) on the time stamp (“a minute ago” or “3 hours ago” or whatever) and choose the option “open in new tab”. This leaves your existing tab undisturbed. At least, that is how it is on my laptop; on phones or other smaller devices this may not be effective.

        • Peggy oh!

Yeah, I’m on my ipad 🙁 oh wait if it works on the time stamp, maybe it can open in a new tab…as it was, nothing happened when I clicked on the posts… Thanks! It sometimes takes me a while!

  • Douglas D. Douglas

    A sincere query:

When Scientology attempts to retroactively smear these people, do you think they consider for even a moment how it makes their previous judgement look?

Case in point– they now accuse Hana Whitfield of patricide in 1964. They acknowledge she was part of the original Sea Org, that she was named Captain of the Apollo by no less that Source himself, and went on to help “found” the Scientology enclave in Clearwater. Which means… they are claiming that an actual criminal (not just an SP that is labeled as such) somehow managed to not only evade detection by LRH himself, but was placed in positions of honor and trust.

This is a pattern played out time and again. Do they even think about it, do you suppose? Or is it the case that they just react in the moment and lash out, without comprehending the ultimate result?

    • Peggy oh!

They can’t even be said to be lashing out, because it’s all prepared in advance and is their main strategy…

    • i-Betty

I don’t think they understand how real people with minds untouched by conditioning and brainwashing work, Doug.

      • Skallene

DM has never had a real mind and his mind was touched by a corrupt system.

    • Dr. Hunky Jimpjorps

Like Jon Atack says, at the core of Scientology is contradiction. “Whitfield is an egregious criminal” and “LRH entrusted Whitfield to be Captain of the Apollo” is just one of the hundreds of contradictions that Scientologists are supposed to uncritically believe both halves of.

    • Scream Nevermore

One has come to the conclusion that the person making these decisions, and issuing these rewrites of history, is a bit of a dumbass. So no, I doubt it even occurs to them!

    • Panopea Abrupta

It is one of the absolutely fundamental flaws in their scam.
The “Tech” and Source are proclaimed as revolutionary and infallible.
SPs are supposedly a mere 2.5% of the population according to Leering Laffy.
Yet $cientologists have always shown an utter inability to do other than promote SPs, only to later discover the “truth.”
John McMaster, Hana, Karen, Corydon, Gerry, Rinder and Rathbun, Denise Brennan, …
The list is very very long.
Logical inconsistencies seem to not trouble those imbued with certainty.

In truth, sociopaths like Hubbard and Miscavige treat people as objects, to be used and discarded whenever anything goes wrong.
Heaven forbid the primacy of Source or Tiny Tosser should ever be questioned.

DM knows he is deeply flawed. Hubbard did too.
I’m convinced Hubbard knew he was stark raving mad for years and years and didn’t give a damn how many lives he ruined.

    • Techie

There are only two choices: Hubbard was wrong and his stuff didn’t work, spectacularly imploding on many occasions OR he was sabotaged by a string of criminals, miscreants, conspiracies, government agents and ne’er-do-wells. Like Hana and the first “Real Clear”. To those outside looking in it is obvious that Hubbard’s stuff didn’t work, but this is not an option for the true believer on the inside who has money, time and emotional investments in the “tech”. To the insider, every failure needs an explanation and it ain’t Ron. It is David Mayo or even Dave Miscavige or whoever blew last week. Not Ron.

Of course you can argue that Hubbard did succeed at his true objective, to burn his name into history and bilk $millions from trusting fools and get away with it. In that sense the constant blame game makes perfect sense. Every failure is explained and the expectation that the next attempt will succeed now that we have those pesky non-believers out of the way is kept in place.

This is part of the spiritualism scam that goes all the way back to the table-raisers and Ouija Board fakers in the Victorian era. If there are any unbelievers present the spirits will not speak etc. They probably did this at the time of the Pharoahs to explain the cycles of the Nile.

    • squirrel

No more thank a scorpion takes a moral inventory before it delivers the deadly sting to the kind hearted frog that carries it across the flooding river. The Scorpion delivers the sting, and when the frog asks why did you sting me? Now we will surely BOTH die, the scorpion says “it’s in my nature.” In this case it’s in the scripture.

No, they don’t think for a moment that they are wrong, and after a few years of watching I would have to say they don’t care either. People wait for some statement from Tom Cruise. He’s already given one. If you don’t like my religion, then fuc& you. Fuc& you.

That said, the Freedom mag responses are something I would confuse with the Onion if I didn’t know better.

No true Moral Inventory will ever happen with true believers. Just my observation.

      • Douglas D. Douglas

The Scorpion and the Frog is one of my favorite fables.

“I can’t help it; it’s just my nature.”

    • TheHoleDoesNotExist

This does chip away at the iron bubble. That’s why the declares are just as secretive as everything else now. Declares were supposed to be posted publicly in the org and broadly issued. Just the sheer volume alone would crack the vaults. There are also so few members, and most of the them are related, interrelated, formerly family or employees or bosses, or well known staff names that it would blow the lid off the whole facade.

When it’s Sea Org veteran names, it’s a big shakeup. It’s one thing to not read papers or google, but when it’s someone you’ve known on staff, in business, or someone who sat at your Christmas dinner table, it’s impossible to ignore – they Knew these people. Just like Tom Cruise did.

Is there anything left that’s Not a big bad secret? I mean, as much as they have to threaten life and limb to get anyone into event chairs, they still have to have the secret Annie Oakley ring and code to get in.

    • nukethevolcano

Inconsistencies are hard to see in a blind pursuit.

    • Mymy88

They don’t think about it, unless they want to think about it, and I don’t think that happens too often.

    • SassyBeach

I wonder about this too—ALL of the bitter apostates were working out just fine up until they left (rather, were “thrown out”), right? And most all were somewhat high profile, too. Doesn’t anyone screen all these terrible people up front?? Good Lord, the extent this “church” goes to when people leave. The level of combativeness is ludicrous yet enthralling at the same time.

Hi honey. Did you just get here? You missed troll + socks earlier.

        • ScnMonkeyNuts

Troll and associated socks still going strong downthread.

          • Allie

Either they’re getting their stats up early or they’re enjoying themselves by cleverly
chatting with one another and an occasional pithy remark to commenters.

            • ScnMonkeyNuts

Well, they seem to be having fun–and they’re not doing too much harm, only making themselves look a little bit silly. I’ve got to the point of giving them the xseaorg number and quietly walking away 🙂

            • Allie

It just gets boring after awhile.

            • ScnMonkeyNuts

Very true Allie, fun to poke them for a bit–but soon becomes tiresome. I think this is the only way they can get upstat now, “Look how many entheta–shattering posts we made this week!”

            • Ben Franklin

Sometimes I like poking them just to see if there is a real human being still in there, but, most of them are usually so far gone that trying to reason with them is like trying to reason with an ashtray.

            • ScnMonkeyNuts

STAND UP! THANK YOU! SIT DOWN! THANK YOU! (PS sorry for shouting, but I’ve got my TRs in 🙂 )

You all still toying with the playthings? If you put them down, they’ll probably scoot – there must be a muster they are late for. There’s Always a muster in scientology – every other hour.

Don’t know if this has been posted before, but: “Mesmerizing? If you’ve had even a passing interest in Scientology, “Going Clear” will fascinate in ways you never thought possible.”

      • Allie

He seems to have been gone from the Bunker for awhile. Is he taking a break?
He seemed pretty strident and wound up in his comments.

        • Robert Eckert

His moodiness comes and goes. I don’t remember him being in any conflict with anybody before he disappeared. Maybe he’s just busy in so-called Real Life and hasn’t had time for us for a while.

          • Allie

Thanks, Robert. Last I remember he posted about hiking, sleeping by the water, and a photo of the Shawn Lonsdale bench.
ETA: I’ve always enjoyed his hiking & mountains photos.

            • Robert Eckert

When I was out in California, hiking the mountains and woods was my favorite pastime. I am going to have to get back there and find Shawn’s bench one of these days.

            • stillgrace2

I was wondering if he got eaten by one of the bears he described. I hate it when that happens.

            • Free Minds, Free Hearts

Yes, DamOTClese has strong opinions and yes he volunteers helping the forests – and once he posted a link to the Shawn Lonsdale Memorial Bench up in the wilderness above LA – maybe he is on a backpacking trip. I miss him!

            • i-Betty

He pops by as often as he can and maintains it 🙂

      • Sandy

Thanks, Robert. I have been wondering what happened to him.

    • TheHoleDoesNotExist

Oh my. When Sioux City, Iowa speaks, we’re talkin’ America! America is watching HBO Going Clear!

      • KNMF

Going Clear plays in Peoria, Hollywood or wherever.

      • Free Minds, Free Hearts

Remember, the other day someone linked to the AARP recommendation to see it!

        • TheHoleDoesNotExist

          Yes. This is fun.

    • scottmercer

It seems to me from all the reviews I’ve read from low information people, the personal aspect of the stories of the witnesses are emotionally affecting, but the parts that really make their jaws drop and go WTF? are the footage of the Vegas Meets Nuremburg rallies. And everyone makes Nazi or North Korea comparisons. It’s pretty obvious.

  • Douglas D. Douglas

A Sunday Funny for all of you. Looks like the folks up in the Valley (that’s North Hollywood, not Burbank) have announced yet another fundraiser to push things right over the top at last.

Oh wait. My bad. This is actually from THREE YEARS AGO.

    • Douglas D. Douglas

(They didn’t mention they are counting down from eleventy billion.)

    • Sibs

Still worth sharing. SEE, LURKERS? Things haven’t changed!

Edit: The more important question- if so little has changed in the last three years, what makes you think the regging will slow down in the future?

    • Mrs. V.

Glad to see they’ve implemented some new-and-improved fundraising techniques. Seriously though, they would be able to save a ton of money if they just reprinted the same shit and changed the date. Yeesh.

      • Rasha

        …wait. They didn’t?

        • Mrs. V.

No, they use different backgrounds, maybe different font and slightly different words. 🙂

    • Graham

wtf is ‘NoHo’? Sounds like No Hope…

      • Sibs

Common local lingo- abbreviation for North Hollywood. So that one’s excusable.

        • ScnMonkeyNuts

          Pity–I preferred Graham’s interpretation 🙂

          • Sibs

I used to take the train from NoHo into downtown. And many of my friends live in WeHo (West Hollywood).

            • MaxSpaceman

And in New York, No-Ho is “North of Houston” (pronounced how-stun), which is the nabe around NYU Film School.

      • Spackle Motion

It was the sad attempt to make North Hollywood relevant when, in truth, it is a trash dump. And it isn’t even close to Hollywood.

        • scottmercer

I resemble that remark. It used to be a trash dump. Now it is a trash dump with a subway station. And some new condos.

          • Spackle Motion

I lived in that trash dump right before the subway station was built and remember the first push to call it Noho. Unless you were close to Studio City, North Hollywood was and is a complete dump.

But the real estate so sooo super cheap after the 94 earthquake. But that’s another story.

      • Douglas D. Douglas

NoHo is one little section of the Valley’s attempt at hipness. Otherwise known as North Hollywood.

    • TheHoleDoesNotExist

Frankie Valley and the 4 Seasons – Does the Real Frankie know about this? Maybe I should telex him.

      • Peggy oh!

Ooh yeah! Like the women of comedy whose pics they fraudulently used for an event ! I wonder if they had to pay damages? Someone ask Elaine Boosler how that turned out!

    • Sid

No knocking down walls but hard hats provided. They will be knocking people’s heads to get money out of them and want to make sure they last all evening.

    • Sibs

Off topic, but I just noticed the advertised band. What. The. Fuck?

      • Douglas D. Douglas

Puns… the lowest form of humor.

        (But I love ’em!)

  • Sid

Tens of millions of dollars spent attacking ex-Scientologists. Amount spent attacking psychs, not so much.

    • Douglas D. Douglas

Uh, Sid, hadn’t you heard? They won that war. The psychs are all gone.

Now send them some money and go back to sleeeeeeeeeeep……

      • Sid

So they won the war with the IRS and the psychs. Who’s next?

        • Ben Franklin

          body thetans, and the media

          • Mrs. V.

And the apostates on the fringes of the internet.

            • Ben Franklin

With all the fundraising mixed in between, I predict a very busy and miserable future for church members

            • Mrs. V.

It won’t be pretty, that’s for sure.

            • Sid

I still can’t figure out how the internet has fringes. And most of those apostates are beyond middle age. And they are all defrocked. Not a pretty picture. Scientologists would not be able to confront that one.

            • Mrs. V.

Yeah, fringes of the internet is an absurd phrase. I never understood it myself.

            • Observer

              Fringe as in “lunatic fringe.”

            • Sid

I prefer the fringes from the old hippie days.

            • Peggy oh!

Oh the Internet is a fringe! Nobody uses it!

          • Sid

Yes, I can see they’re winning that one.

        • ScnMonkeyNuts

They’re after all us SPs spreading vile untruths about their ‘religion’ and listening to bitter, defrocked apostates.

          • Sid

At their next event they will announce that they won the battle, just like they did with the psychs.

        • TheHoleDoesNotExist

          Late night comedians.

That could be tougher than battling the IRS.

CCHR and OSA volunteers have to buy their own lock picks and door jimmies. Wait, what’s a door jimmie? Is that the name of the guy who holds the door open while they photocopy files?

        • Billy Bob

      • dchoiceisalwaysrs

Yes? That reminded me of the diagrams in scientology Missionaire training packs, either Class II or Class III level, that I studied in spring 1974. The diagrams of locks were accompanied by written word on how to pick the diagrammed locks. It is truly amazing that I didn’t stand up and walk out at that very minute but by that time I was drinking deeply of the cool-aid.

  • Yan117

I’m just two sentences into this article but I feel I have to stop and scroll down a bit and leave this comment before I go any further.

When I think of scientologists, I often picture Hana Eltringham Whitfield. I was never in but I’ve kept an eye wide open on Scientology for quite a few years already. I once heard someone explain just how genuine scientologists are about helping and doing good deeds. Over the years and through observation, I have come to accept as a fact that scientologists are very likely to be generous, selfless, curious, and caring. You wouldn’t be able to convince a selfish, cynical, and heartless prick like me to go on save the world. It wouldn’t work. In a way, scientologists are much better than I am but, unfortunately, in this day and age, unhinged gullibility is a cardinal sin.

Hana Eltringham Whitfield is to me, the quintessential Scientologist: admirably kind, but tragically credulous.

That’s why I care about Scientologists in general and that’s also why I often find myself wondering how I could somehow help some of them good folks resurrect from the abyss of blind belief. Subsequently, that is also why I just love everyone here in the Bunker. Scientolgists care, I grant it, but Bunkerites just might care even more. Still my favorite people on the whole internet.

    Addendum:
1.) Nothing on the main page indicates that drunk posting is forbidden.
2). I will be in attendance when Tony Ortega is finally awarded his first Pulitzer.
3). I’m heading back to the article now.
    4). Was that out loud?

    • ScnMonkeyNuts

      1) Drunk posting is not forbidden per se, just got to be careful.
      2) As will all Bunkerites that can make it.
      3) It’s a great article.
      4) Yes.

    • Sibs

Drunk posting isn’t illegal, drunk posters are just more likely to say something stupid, piss someone off, and/or get banned.

    • shasha40

Anonymous Hamburg video of Nancy Many and Dee Findlay at the Dublin conference. Apologies if it has already been shared here.

    https://youtu.be/vdO57DVuJoU

    • Donna Cline Sargent

i have not seen it, thanx 🙂

    • i-Betty

During the conference, a guest dropped out at the last moment so it was decided to show the documentary about Nancy’s time in the Sea Org made by the Discovery Channel for their “Dangerous Persuasions” series.

This would be only the second time Nancy had watched it and she was unsure how it would make her feel, so Dee Findlay and I sat right at the back in the dark with Nancy in the middle of us and the three of us held hands throughout (we also tucked Nancy into our warm coats). It was special. And Nancy is very strong 🙂

      • Free Minds, Free Hearts

This is what I love you, i-Betty. You held her hand and tucked her in your warm coat to make her feel safe. I have tears in my eyes, as I did when watching it.

        • i-Betty

Aww 🙂 February in Dublin is cold!

It occurs to me that this conference celebrated women in many ways. On the stage we had Nancy and Dee talking about the strength it took to survive in Scientology and to leave it behind; Victoria Britton talking about the death of her son, Kyle; we had Sam and Paloma Domingo talking about what it is to be a family in Scientology.

Then you had the women representing Anonymous in the audience, bringing their skills in protesting and the audio-visual technical side. And then there was the lovely blind woman in the audience who had managed to make her way all the way there on her own to hear John Sweeney speak. Amazing, all of them.

          • Free Minds, Free Hearts

How wonderful, I would have loved to have been there with you strong women.

A few of us were discusing on a forum Thread: “Scientology ready to sue HBO for Copyright Infringement” … and in my opinion, I think the Cult may have learned to be cautious before dragging someone into court with a Lawsuit after the Debbie Cook hearing. That one bit them hard and dragging HBO into litigation would be a GIANT compared to the Debbie Cook expose hearing. ‘Raisin Nuts’ don’t fit in a vice … but the Expose would
    cost big time …

    • Unex Skcus

Scientology ready to sue HBO…” we can only hope!

      • I don’t know. I think if they were serious, they’d be trying to get an injunction to stop the broadcast.* Trying to sue after the fact would only be for a possible Time magazine-like chilling effect and would expose them to much a more informed discovery and trial process than the Time one.

*They may still be waiting for the last possible moment to try that one, in hopes that HBO would have to postpone while they fight it.

        • Sibs

I wouldn’t put the last-minute injunction past them, but it’s way too late to be chilling HBO. The Streisand Effect alone would blow this documentary up to The Interview-like proportions.

Edit: Not that the cult seems to be aware so far of the effect their attacks are actually having on the documentary.

A “church” suing for copyright infringement. How very church-like of them!

It’s amazing to me how these people who claim to be free can’t think past what they’ve been told to say.

      • scottmercer

It’s a gross misunderstanding about the purpose of documentaries. They are not intended to showcase “both sides” of any particular issue. Nor are news stories. But they’re banking on most people not knowing that.

Brave people to take on the almighty “church” of Scientology.” – “More than offering a horrifying look at the inner works of the Church of Scientology, Alex Gibney’s documentary analyzes how doctrines imprison people in their own beliefs, and what the terribly dangerous psychological games that benefit no one except those who attempt to profit from the believers’ naïveté.”

(GC: 90%. BE: 3%. This is not an exaggeration!)

      • shasha40

You’re doing that damn Scientology math , that is definitely x47 x 47 higher than Battlefield Earth and it hasn’t even aired yet . Go tomato- meter , go straight up and vertical ! 🙂

If only Alex Gibney had let Captain Miscavige run the show like he did with Battlefield Earth, Going Clear could have achieved the same stellar results!

Nora C – When the lights dimmed at LACMA’s Bing Theater and the film was about to start I started clapping furiously. I was the only one for about 5 seconds, in that eternity I realized, I FUCKING HATE CLAPPING. It is one thing that you are forced to do CONSTANTLY in Scientology. Somebody shares a realization in the classroom, clap. Somebody achieves a new status, clap. Go to an event, EVERY TIME A STATISTIC IS REVEALED CLAP. If COB says something AMAZING, STAND and CLAP. Someone thanks L Ron Hubbard, STAND and clap and give three cheers. So much fucking clapping. It was in that moment that I was genuinely happy about something clapping that I realized that it was one of the many things that had been stolen from me. An ability to genuinely show happiness and exuberance without dread and regret.

This brought a tear to my eye. I wonder whether she is one of us. If so, I’m proud of you!

The only pictures that have appeared have been at what looks like the beginning, before everyone was seated. I will assume that they filled the place.

One thing the bunker does the best is fit the joking and degrading in just when we need it. If we did not have this, we would become just as humorless as the Scientology stories we follow.

Your fiancee is a lucky woman.

        • villagedianne

Almost every restaurant owner I ever worked for was a madman. or mad woman. Often people open a restaurant for the wrong reasons. Sometimes without knowing the business. You wouldn’t own a store or a factory without some knowledge of the business. But people own restaurants for ego reasons. They think it is going to be like cooking and entertaining at home. Sometimes they have never even worked in a restaurant, then as an owner they find that they don’t like the business. You have to love people and love working very long hours.
Unless your former bosses get their act together, they will have the headache of high staff turnover.

    • beauty for ashes

      What a great exit!

I was going to work from 4- 8 .. Came in with about 7 tubs of glasses..The Dishwasher didn’t show up today.. When she showed up at 5 with her Boy Friend.. ( She told me last night he needed a job)

I grinned from ear to ear knowing that I would be leaving around 6 and I got them caught up.. and left with the biggest Grin on my face..I swear to God…

When the Boss asked me why..I said, ” Would you want your mother to be a dishwasher? ” He said, ” No you are right..Thanks for all you have given..” and that was it..

        FREEEEEEDOM ..WOO HOO.

        • Allie

Yay Baby. You did good, girl. Freedom looks good on ya.

          • Baby

Woo Hoo.. I am not kidding Allie..I am literally dancing.. plus I told them that my hubby didn’t want me to work because he missed me..hahahhahahaahah

He’s like Oh Great put it on me.. but the boss is a heavy duty Christian and I knew he would buy the ” Man in Charge” Crap..hahhaa

        • Observer

At least he was reasonable about it. Finally.

          • Baby

Yes he was and I really appreciated it Obs.. He and his wife just have no idea what is going on in that kitchen.. none..

I didn’t feel that it was my business to tell them that 3 out of the 4 cooks/chefs were going to leave soon..

The Main Chef quit a couple of days ago..just walked out.. It’s just a matter of time.. They are losing staff like crazy..they just don’t have a clue .. People leave because they say..

            ” I can’t work under these conditions.. ”

OK.. Like yesterday.. ” Customer complained her one piece out of a 3 piece chicken dinner was too dry..”

            Boss..” No it’s NOT ”

( Do I think the customer is always right? NO but I do believe the customer is ALWAYS the Customer)

So the boss said to waiter.. ” Well.. it’s NOT dry..If they want another piece they have to pay for it..” ( The customer’s husband’s piece was NOT dry )

Waiter.. ” I don’t feel comfortable telling her that if she wants another piece that she will have to pay for it.. ”

Well the Boss said.. ” Someone will pay for it if she gets another..” So the waiter paid for it.. ( Swear to God..)

So.. that shows you just a teeny part of what we all deal/ dealt with.. These people spent a fortune on drinks..desert.. etc. Give them another Piece of Fuckin Chicken for God’s sake..

Word of mouth will absolutely kill a food business.. It just made us all sick that a customer would be treated like that. Sick..

OK I take it back when I said the owners were nice..The more I write..they don’t sound like nice people..I think they KISSED my ass to make me stay.

            • Observer

              Yikes 🙁

            • Baby

Sigh.. and I’m sure that Waiter will leave soon.. Just a matter of time..

            • Miss Tia

How in the world have they managed to stay open with that business attitude? I mean towards customers and not having a clue about staff?! o_O Running a place is HARD WORK and you gotta be on top of ALL OF IT….damn……they’re not gonna last long and then what? they’ll blame it on customers wanting another piece of chicken?

((hugs)) baby!! You did the right thing when you left! ♥

            • Baby

They haven’t been opened that long Tia.. and it is during SEASON.. they won’t last long.. and that’s sad to see another business bite the dust..sigh..

but they don’t have any business or restaurant sense.. they had extra $ and a dream.

But no experience or knowledge behind it.. It is palpable .. and I saw Glaring Mistakes daily.. and couldn’t wrap my head around it.. It was really driving me crazy..

            • Miss Tia

it seems when it bites the dust most of the fault will be because of THEM and their lack of business sense…..and restaurant sense…..

i mean, have extra money and a dream? fantastic!!! but to ensure your dream can be a successful reality you need to make sure you know what you’re doing and/or hire people who do—such as a general manager (even then if you own the place you should know every single job there and be able to do any of ’em)….it just seems they wanted to play ‘restaurant’ and bask in attention while in the kitchen mayhem reigns….i mean they don’t even have someone fill out an application?? (referring to the bf)….i don’t care about drug tests, but you need that basic info on file that you get from an app…..

i said it before a few days ago to ya, but i gotta say again, i canNOT imagine what their accounting practices are like if they can’t even ensure they have employees showing up!!! it would have drove me crazy too!!!

            • Baby

I know I appear really flippant at times here, but I am very organized.. ( It didn’t come natural to me) but it does now.

At no point in this story was there a hidden motorcycle, burner phones, a safe house or backward glances.

  • Ben Franklin

Came across this video taped by Mark Bunker where Hana talks about some of the fair gaming she has endured.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqi9WXY1P0w

    • i-Betty

Hana was so beautiful when she was young. Now she is exquisite.

      • Are_sics

A stone fox. Then and now.

      • Zana

Yes. It’s really wonderful to see a woman become more beautiful as she grows older.

    • madame duran

Did Rathbun or Rinder ever speak at length about the surveillance on Hana?

      • Ben Franklin

Not sure if they have talked about Hana’s harassment in particular, but, they have talked about several others that they knew about.

        • madame duran

OK. Well, that leaves Rathbun to speak up about it.

    • Zana

Co$ put their “movie” ad against Gibney as an ad before this movie with Hana. With that music underscoring that Dominatrix talking like a punitive bitch…it’s a true mistake. I love that they show all of the offices and studios…and nobody is in them. They are empty. Their little ad just shows that Co$ is VERY rich…but NOBODY IS IN THERE. Why in the world do they show all these spaces with nobody in them? Is it because so many people have blown and they don’t want them on camera? Does anyone have a photo of what the Sea Org bunk beds look like? Wouldn’t that be cool to get…however, that would be a give-away to who the mole is.

Her surgery was ordered by COB. Here is a picture of the procedure, on a male. (F5)

    • Sibs

      Trapped in Saint Hill?

    • Free Minds, Free Hearts

Do you think they are reprogramming her?

    • Juicer77

She’s on that extended tour of remote Idle Morgues, and her handlers have hidden her phone and tablet.

      • Todd Tomorrow

Handler just seems like it could mean so many things. Does one hold Duggan’s penis when he urinates? Or do they just follow you around with a belt activated blow device. Anyone here ever had one? I have an asst. but I pay them.

    • madame duran

The cult is keeping her occupied right through March 29th so she won’t have a chance to watch it herself.
(Kirstie’s mind is so easily distracted by food that she’d probably notice the word “pie” in “occupied” and forget the whole reason why she was scurried off the Internet)

      • Peggy oh!

I think that even as out of touch COB is, even he knows that Kirstie crazy is bad for business. And keeping her silent right now is best.

Unless the reverse is true and he thinks that she is their big guns and is saving her to bring out on a Mar 30th!

        Ha

        • Zana

Maybe she just discovered that there are only 50,000 Scientologists on the planet. Could that be? She has such a big mouth…what would happen if she actually watched Going Clear and started doing a little research on her own? I don’t think she would ever apologize to Leah…however, she could really do some damage to the cult. (I can dream, can’t I?)

          • Peggy oh!

If Kirstie turned and talked, she can be quite charming when she is not being a scio hate bot!

        • Missionary Kid

March 30 is gonna be too late. As a matter of fact, it’s already too late.

          • Peggy oh!

I know that and you know that, but I was trying to think like him, on the curious case of silent Kirstie.

            • Missionary Kid

Kirstie is probably doing some sort of tour to rouse the troops, or she could be sequestered by her weight loss sponsor to make sure that she doesn’t inhale any extra food lying around.

            • Peggy oh!

Oh man, I just realized that I used the DeMon’s terms: I know that and you know that…gah!

            • Peggy oh!

I think the whole reason Danny Masterson was trotted out in February to trash going clear and scientology critics was because of all their so called celebrities he is the only one with any recognition whatsoever that doesn’t still have an agent to stop him. I mean, come on when did he last work?

Now Kirstie, I always thought also doesn’t have even a d list agent so she’s been free all these years to be such a crazy loon. But maybe you’re right, maybe she has some kind of deal she has to protect. How new is that restaurant thing? I’ve watched so many videos lately I have lost track of what happened when. Ha

            • Missionary Kid

I don’t know about any restaurant deal for Krusty, but she’s supposed to have lost 50# due to the weight loss meals she’s touting. She could also be getting surgery to peel off more fat.

Her weight loss company could have told her to STFU, because she can make them look bad.

            • Peggy oh!

I thought I saw a video protesting an opening for health food restaurant that I thought was Kirstie’s… May be it’s a store…oh hell I don’t know 🙂

I just remembered they cornered that poor bastard Suplee who must’ve gotten sucked into the cult while on My Name is Earl…his words said go away his eyes said take me with you!!!

            • Missionary Kid

She had a store where she sold supplements and CalMag, but closed it and the weight loss company took over her products.

Others know the story On Earl cast members.

            • Peggy oh!

Cool. Tbh I don’t really follow the celebs much. I am continually surprised when I find out -like Leah remini-biggest surprise to me when she blew was that she was in scientology! Yet I had seen the John Sweeney celebrity center interviews before then! I just didn’t register her!

            • Peggy oh!

              >but she’s supposed to have lost 50# due to the weight loss meals she’s touting. <

Hahahaha I hear this in Jason Beghe's voice (describing the congresses tales etc) hey! We got it! This time we got it right! This time Kirstie really did Lose #50! We finally perfected it…

            • Missionary Kid

Krusty will probably blow her weight loss program after another 25#, but I hope she doesn’t, for her health’s sake.

            • Peggy oh!

Oh my ha has weren’t about Kirstie it was that her weight loss products history is so similar to the tech history. Not working. Then the new expensive tech is brought out. Lather rinse repeat.

I actually wish Kirstie no ill will. I wish she would wake up too.

            • Missionary Kid

I don’t think she’s too bright, and very self-centered. Just the type of person that $cientology appeals to.
I didn’t like her character on Cheers, and couldn’t understand why “Sam” would be attracted to her, other than his part had him as a horn dog.

            • Peggy oh!

I know! She was so grating! And had no redeeming qualities! I liked her in look who’s talking though. It’s sad I didn’t know she and travolta were scientogists back then, and by then I was already creeped out by scientology after a Repo Man…

    • beauty for ashes

Maybe we should do a welfare check on her. What if the lemurs attacked? F5

      Hi Tom
My brother spent 40 years in the church. The later part
working for OSA to make amends for his brother so he could get back on
the bridge. I’m sorry to say as result of his beliefs he became
delusional and schizophrenic. You’ve hitched your horse to the wrong

I’m sorry for your brother, Robert. The cult has been a devastating influence on him, something no one deserves.
        Damn cult.

      • TheHoleDoesNotExist

Tom wont say it, so I will. I am so sorry. He didnt deserve this and neither did you.

        • Robert Ramsay

Thanks. It means more than you can imagine. When it all went down I was presented with black pr and Mic McCoy telling me that my brothers delusion/schizophrenic was a overt motivator sequence. He didn’t remember me from the early days. So much for perfect recall. Lets take that square peg (scientology) and jam it into…the real world.

      • Free Minds, Free Hearts

I am sorry Robert, so sorry to hear about your brother.

I wish to lodge some sort of formal complaint to OSA or whoever is in charge of the provocateurs that sometimes appear at this site. Is this the best you can come up with these days? It’s hardly worth the effort to respond:

    • i-Betty

Agreed. I suspect they don’t even bother to don a raincoat, sunglasses and turban as a cunning disguise. What’s the actual point if you’re not going to make some form of effort?

      • Rasha

“a cunning disguise..” I had a serious Baldrick moment there… hehehehe

        • i-Betty

“Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words ‘I have a cunning plan’ marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?”

I have worked on only a handful of shoops on Pixlr. I am an artist with pencil and paper, so I know how I intend something to look, I just haven’t learned to translate it yet. It’s a fun challenge for me, to just sort of blindly try to create something when something inspires me.
It’s very humbling too, and I really was laughing at myself when I gave it to you. I was at a point where I just thought the attempt had gotten so funny and cartoonish I had to share it.

Well I was going to try a rev 2, to make “Soul Astronaut brighter. If you do a rev 2, that would be even better. I don’t have that font in my MS Image Composer (from 1994 !) that I use. I’d love to use rev 2 so peeps can see my Chico as the Soul Astronaut that he am. 🙂

Years ago I heard it from a “pageant girl.” She was explaining why there should always be a full-length mirror available for ladies to check themselves out: “For the splendor.” She was so earnest and without guile that the line stuck with me.

Love that Hana is featured in Going Clear. She is so composed and sweet. But how dare the damn cult hurt her? These personal stories, one by one, paint a picture of a cult out of control. Miscavige, you’re going to face the music for this.

I visited a small town book store today, and asked if they had Lawrence Wright’s book in stock. They knew exactly what book I was talking about, just sold the last copy an hour before I got there, and have more copies coming in in two days.

Bookstores and the people who work there are terrific. Oh, and don’t worry. I already have a copy. I was just checking to make sure they knew. In time for the tsunami. Bring it on.

    • beauty for ashes

      Ooo that makes me happy!

      • aquaclara

It was fun, I have to admit.

    • noseinabk

I remember searching two Barnes and Nobles ( DE and MD) for it a few months after it was out. Nope. Now it is in stock at all BNs in the 3 States I frequent. Also, though my small town Library has only a two copies, one is checked out. This sounds inconsequential until you consider the fact that most people here have no idea that scientology even exists.

      • Zana

If it’s like that in Delaware and Maryland…then look what’s happening in all the other cities across the U.S. It will only get better…as the Co$ puts out such terrible puss and vitriol in their “attack videos.” They are putting this drama on the world stage and stirring it up for all to anticipate and watch on the 29th. 🙂

Stupid you can kind of fix…but crazy is forever. Mix stupid and crazy together and it’s a total cluster-f#%k and laughing-stock.

      • L. Wrong Hubturd

        Delawhere?

        • noseinabk

Ha! The only reason I go there now is very infrequent trips to Christiana Mall and some fantastic doctors at A.I. Dupont.

          • L. Wrong Hubturd

I too, am originally from the first state. Been a patient of A.I. as well.

            • noseinabk

I wish that all hospitals operated the way that AI DuPont does. We had a Patch Adams kind of experience with our surgical team and at least 99 percent of the testing departments and helpers. We made frequent visits for 2 years or so and they are the only ( besides a few anti cos friends and St Jude) group that I donate to.

            • Robert Eckert

It is one of only four states I have never managed to visit (also haven’t been to Alaska, though I’ve made Hawai’i; have been in Georgian airspace flying to Florida, but never actually in Georgia; and South Carolina I may never decide to visit).

      • aquaclara

This is great news. And it will get even more compelling after the 29th, when even more people will stroll not libraries and bookstores asking for the book.

    • TheHoleDoesNotExist

      Fantabulous.

    • Zana

It’s amazing that the Co$ is putting out such truly disgusting videos of all the people… it makes the clams look so pitifully bad. With that music underneath and that female announcer who sounds like a poor excuse for a Dominatrix. I love that the press is making fun of all of the videos…truly laughing at them. What church in the world puts out such “entheta?” As Buddha said…the only thing that comes out of a person is what is inside them in the first place… (or something to that effect). 😉 So the Co$ is showing the world the deep, ugly, infected boil that it is. All this yuk is coming to the surface and out. Whew.

I have one two year old black male that looks exactly like the dog with a bit of the white on his chest. An white girl with black speckles who is 10 and a 6 year old girl black with some early grey on her face. How’s your puppy doing? Any mistakes in the car?

            • Baby

sigh.. She’s got a diaper on now sitting by my feet.. I have never had trouble training any of them. I got her at 6 months ..and I have a feeling that she was returned more than once.

My neighbor sells dogs that she gets from reputable breeders within 50 miles and brings them to her home when they are weaned from mom..

She has an outside kennel..then sells them in her pet store.. ( NO puppy mills) when the dog is microchipped and with shots from the local vet on the island.. So the puppies are usually maybe 8-10 weeks when they are ready to sell in her shop.

So 2 months- 2 1/2 months.. depending on the breed of course but on average they are usually $500.. I always rescued dogs when I lived in Ohio..but the ones we got here ( 2) had to be little because of shit ( fire ants, jiggers, mosquitoes, fleas.. ) on island..

and the rescued dogs were pit bull mixes.. ( sigh) but Coco was 6 months old.. I think she was rehomed to us .. because of behavioral issues.. and she was like $200..

but too late now.. because I fell in love with her the minute I saw her.. but she is definitely a handful.. but I’m home with her all day now and can keep my eyes on her better. If nothing else she is loved.. and loves back..

but she is more work then the other 4 put together.. Jeeze Louise.. but she is so sweet when she’s sleeping.. xoxox

            • Todd Tomorrow

I might have told you but I work with Greyhounds that are having adjustment issues from the track. Done it for years and I’ve kept the last two but am always on call for another if they need home work done with a foster. I’ve almost given up a few times and then you’ll see them turn the corner. It’s often just the magic of them living with other mellow dogs. I always take mine out every three hours when I first get them. They come crate trained from the track so you just have to worry about males mostly forgetting and trying to mark things. Congrats on your puppy I didn’t realize you had her such a short time. G’night!

            • Baby

Night sweetheart.. You are a kind soul to work with the Greyhounds.. Thank you.. xoxo love baby

            • Baby

I didn’t comment on your dogs.. Wow your 2 year old exactly like the dog with white on his chest..beautiful .. white with black speckles 10yr old .. Wow black with grey. . they all sound beautiful Todd..

I remember when I went to my Cat/ Dog Rescue promotional event at Detroit Zoo and a woman was walking around with 3 absolutely Gorgeous Grey Hounds.. so sweet ..and I don’t know what her deal was..

OH I know she was in charge of the Grey Hound Rescue Group..and those were hers.. but I fell in love. I already had 2 dogs at the time in MI and my condo would only allow 2 pets..( That was the even I rescued my Main Coon Cat..

  • Aside: After years of law partnerships like Bowles & Moxon, Moxon & Bartilson, Moxon & Kobrin, Moxon & Paquette, Kendrick Moxon has finally given in, bustin’ a move, and gone Big Time Professional. His current company name is (and I quote):

“LAW OFFICE OF KENDRICK L. MOXON, A PROFESSIONAL CORPORATION”

There you have it! All those companies that don’t have “A Professional Corporation” in their names are merely rank amateurs by default! (It must be hell to fit on a business card, but total worth it.)

    Category:Kendrick Moxon

    • noseinabk

I like it. Maybe I will make it my new FB name and register it with the state. —— —–, A Professional Corporation.

    • TheHoleDoesNotExist

And I am Lady Gag Inc.

    • villagedianne

I googled, and apparently a Professional Corporation is a separate category of corporation.

      http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-professional-corporation.htm

The webpage mentions that “Having one’s own professional corporation means that the professionals who have the corporation are, for legal purposes, employees of their own business.” Is this a legal way for Moxon to prevent someone suing him personally?

      • A professional corporation is the term for when someone incorporates a legal shell for their practice rather than run a sole proprietorship (where the business and the person are the exactly same).

“LAW OFFICE OF KENDRICK L. MOXON, A PROFESSIONAL CORPORATION” is just the name of the incorporation. It signifies nothing. (Corporation is usually a reserved word for incorporated companies.)

It’s odd to me as he/they only do $cion, law. Must be some loophole he needs to close. Could it be that Lou and Eva Pauquette have finally decided to run away together? They’d better run far or Moxon will have them hung up on an electric fence or they’ll be dual suspicious suicides.

Hey Bunkeroos I am sorry to be late to the party but I have opinions and a present for you too.
first I think folks like Carl Reiner and other celebs will start a backlash complaining in earnest about the cult’s abuses and they will see the cult as the bona fide criminal organization it is . Then we will have public feuds in the TMZ world and mainstream press between pro and anti Scientology celebs . Then the skeletons will come pouring out of the closet- enough to make a mountain all the way to the fictitious target two !

OSA can attack and smear all the concerned celebs and keep the ball rolling! Snowball time and catastrophic cascade effect !Dominoes falling galore ! House of of lies tumbling down !Insert tired cliche for DM you are screwed !

We need every celeb to see this and the Oscar buzz will make that a reality !The curiosity will overtake the world and lots of eyes will be on Scientology! DM what are your crimes ! Lots of people will look and some exes and critics will be more than happy to talk ! Hollywood paging Tory Magoo! Angry Gay Pope can be a star ! Chris Shelton are you available! Marc and Claire Headley look good on film ! I am sure Mike and Marty will be ready to do more films ! Uh oh SpaghettiOs ! Or should I say cultiOs ?

I also have a brand new post from my blog that gives a very extensive examination of how Hubbard used propaganda by reversal of definition .

Here is a post on how Ron Hubbard uses language to hide his true
intentions and actions . It includes the true meaning of Scientology ,
workable , understanding. clear, auditing, course supervisor , “the
happiest place on Earth ” , the Sea org “elite” , ethics, total freedom ,
the two rules for happy living ,thetan and many other terms and why and
how Hubbard made and changed them to confuse and control his
    victims/slaves.

I encourage all exes, critics and independent and Freezone Scientologists to read this .

Yet another review of Going Clear that cites the CO$ smear campaign against it. Seems every review now consists of two parts: what’s in the film and what the CO$ is doing to prove that every bad thing said in the film about it is true. Makes one wonder if the person responsible for the failure known as the CO$’s PR campaign against Going Clear is secret an undercover member of the Bunker. Ha! http://communityvoices.post-gazette.com/arts-entertainment-living/tuned-in/item/38880-hbo-doc-explores-scientology-in-going-clear

“The church has denied the film’s allegations in print ads, through a Twitter account, online article in a church publication and somewhat childish-sounding take-downs of the film’s participants. (Rather than responding directly to charges made in the film, a church spokesperson ignored questions from The Hollywood Reporter and instead tried to dish dirt on the movie’s participants, which does little to help the church’s credibility.)”

    • Todd Tomorrow

“..celeb-watchers may come away somewhat disappointed.” Wah..

    • Billy Bob

Co$ has handed each media outlet cheap positive protection from itself. Mention the smear videos as the Co$ response and the article can present an uninfluenced viewpoint on the merits of ‘Going Clear’ and the information in it. The article is fair and balanced.
That the smear videos are not a credible response and further discredit Co$ is a unique incompetence in a world full of slick media spin.

“On Twitter, however, it’s called trolling. In fact, with fewer than 500 followers and a constant stream of invective, there’s little separating Freedom Media Ethics from the average generic-egg-avatar GamerGate mouth-breather.” OUCH!

    • Todd Tomorrow

“And it couldn’t be going better for Gibney’s film if he masterminded the feed as a false-flag operation.”

      • Intergalactic Walrus

And even if a critic doesn’t like Going Clear, they still end up ripping into the CO$. These clams just can’t “win” can they?

        • Todd Tomorrow

Seems when I’m out and about that people are counting down the days until it shows on HBO. I’m sure it’s because they know me, but many were dubious of my constant $cion bashing,’All religions suck..” But when an elderly lady said to me while walking my dogs,”Only seven more days ” I couldn’t figure out what she was talking about until she mentioned HBO. I saw it when it came out and the first thing I thought was I have to see this again. So hopefully they’ll watch it more than once!

          • Intergalactic Walrus

When I became interested in the CO$, I quickly learned by people’s reactions that they wondered if I was exaggerating the situations I’d read about in the Bunker and other sites. It was as I was relating my experience of having caught a glimpse of Bigfoot or the Chupacabra, was what I was saying true, or had I gone off my nut? They’d give me a look like they weren’t quite sure. Most people seem to believe it is just a silly celebrity alien-loving cult. But I used to think that too. Hopefully in the next few weeks, that’s gonna change big time.

            • Missionary Kid

A change is gonna come, and it will, big time once it hits HBO.

Be afraid, Davy, be very afraid.

        • Baby

I wasn’t thrilled with the critics last paragraph.. but that’s OK.. It is the context of the rest that is fabulous..

          • Intergalactic Walrus

But if CO$ uses his quote (which he kinda dares them to do) then those who see the quote will end up at his article. The article where he rips them a new one by confirming they are indeed as awful as they are portrayed in the film. Kind of an ingenious way of filleting them without even picking up the Going Clear scalpel. HeHe

      • Missionary Kid

        AMEN!^^^^^^^

    • Missionary Kid

I was going to write a review of Going Clear, and I was struggling with it because I wanted to say so much more about $cientology than what is in the movie, then someone pointed us to the BBC review. It is so well written, and it says everything I wanted to say that all I can do is to point to it. http://www.bbc.com/culture/story/20150320-a-scary-must-see-scientology-doc

Going Clear is a documentary for people who know little about $cientology. It is also a documentary for the people who know a fair amount, as well as those who’ve either been in and left or who’ve undergone an intense education about it here in the Bunker. It’s very well crafted, as well as being accurate, and it calls out the church, its celebrities, and the government. It’s 60 minutes on steroids, and the most damning parts come from $cientology itself.

Thank you $cientology for digging your own metaphorical grave, then jumping in, and handing the rest of us the shovels to bury you. Gibney and Wright have shown us that we don’t have to throw individual shovel fulls back in the grave, but just push the piles of dirt that $cientology stacked up around it, back in.

I drove more than a hundred miles to see it, and I feel sorry for those of you who have to wait nearly a week more, but I know that it’s worth the wait.

I think there’s a paradox in the theatrical release, and that is that HBO is making enough money so it would almost be worth delaying the release another week. People who’ve seen it are bringing more people to see it. The good news is that they aren’t delaying the showing on HBO, but the buzz about the movie created by the theatrical release is guaranteeing that more and more people will tune in to see it.

My book report on The Great Secret by L. Ron Hubbard is now two weeks overdue. It’s only 14 pages long. I’ve read it twice. Suffice it to say that it’s. . .ah. . . dense? Self aggrandizing, weirdly moralistic, and difficult to take seriously? Like Moses using the opening monologue of Star Trek: The Next Generation as a preamble to the Book of Exodus? Yes, all of those things, but I’ll publish the report tomorrow evening. Then check myself into my version of an Introspection Rundown.

    • Hingle McCringleberry

I mean LRH’s story, not my report. Sorry for the ambiguity.

Nice. Carl Reiner Tweet in Tony’s Tweet scrolling sidebar:

“Saw excellent, disturbing documentary on Scientology and empathized with all the poor souls whose lives were shattered by this organization.”

  • Tony:

You seem to infer in your report that “deprogrammers,” always held people “against their will.”

Deprogramming was never solely defined by whether or not the cult intervention was voluntary or involuntary.

The word “deprogramming” is simply the term most often used to describe the process of unraveling the programming or “brainwashing” of groups called “cults.” Much of the work was done on a voluntary basis. That is, the adult cult member that was the focus of the intervention, was free to leave at any time.

Out of about 500 interventions that I have done since 1982, only a around a dozen were involuntary interventions done with adults under the direct supervision and in the presence of their families.

Pretty much all involuntary deprogramming with adults ended in the United States after a number of lawsuits and prosecutions went badly for cult intervention specialists or deprogrammers. For example, the Jason Scott intervention (1990) and subsequent litigation, which you reported about (1995) for the Phoenix New Times, ended my own willingness to help families in this way.

“Deprogrammer” and/or “deprogramming” remain the most readily recognized and understood words to describe cult intervention work and the people who do it, whether it’s voluntary or involuntary.

The campaign to redefine the word deprogramming as somehow only an involuntary cult intervention was launched by groups like Scientology in a propaganda effort to stigmatize any form of intervention to help cult victims. Some people opposing cults and attempting to help cult victims later adopted that understanding of deprogramming as politically correct, but it is not historically correct.
