The Los Angeles Police Department revealed yesterday that it had arrested a 40-year-old man named Mark Lucian Feigin on October 19 for making two calls to the Islamic Center of Southern California and threatening to kill people there. A search at Feigin’s home turned up a large arsenal of rifles and ammunition, and police also released tweets and Facebook posts by Feigin that contained disturbing threats against Muslims. But Feigin has another secret that the police and the media hasn’t talked about yet: He’s been a Scientologist since 2004. Continue reading Trump supporter arrested for threatening to kill Muslims at L.A. Islamic center is a Scientologist

Jeffrey Augustine joins us again to take a fresh look at one of Scientology’s most characteristic schemes. Take it away, Jeff… Continue reading Until the spaceships arrive, Scientologists measure cosmic success in framed glory

Last year, when Alex Gibney’s documentary Going Clear opened at theaters and then aired on HBO, Scientology leader David Miscavige struck back in a very characteristic way — with websites and videos denouncing Gibney and the people who appeared in the film. Continue reading Kathy Slevin, sister who attacked Paul Haggis on behalf of Scientology, dies at 60

Several weeks ago, we pointed out that a lot of observers are making comparisons between Donald Trump and L. Ron Hubbard. And while we understood why, we pointed out that it was Hillary Clinton who would actually bring more Scientology baggage with her to the White House. Now, Rod Keller, who keeps an eye on social media for us, takes a look at how Scientologists themselves are talking about the coming vote. Continue reading Vote for Xenu! Scientologists are looking to L. Ron Hubbard for advice on the coming election
[Ford Greene, Lawrence Wollersheim, and Jon Atack]On some Saturdays (and on other days), we’re fortunate here at the Underground Bunker to publish an occasional item by Jon Atack. His 1990 book, A Piece of Blue Sky, was one of the first that we read for a history of L. Ron Hubbard and Scientology, and it remains one of the very best books on the subject. That’s partly because Atack speaks from experience, having spent years in Scientology and rising into its “OT” levels, but also because of his many years of dogged research. Few people have the breadth of knowledge about Scientology’s first 40 years as Jon Atack. Continue reading Who was responsible when Scientology finally paid Lawrence Wollersheim a lot of thin dimes?
[Tom Cruise and the building he’s said to be making his home, The Skyview in Clearwater]Last year in September, a developer submitted new plans for a ten-story condo building in Clearwater, Florida that he’s been transforming for several years. That developer, Moises Agami, is a wealthy Scientologist from Mexico City whose family has donated millions of dollars to the Church of Scientology in recent years. And the building he’s redeveloping is right in the middle of Scientology’s Clearwater campus, just a few blocks from the spiritual center of the worldwide organization. Continue reading TOM CRUISE PENTHOUSE IN SCIENTOLOGY’S SPIRITUAL MECCA? WE HAVE THE PLANS

A year ago, we were fortunate enough to be in the audience for the worldwide premiere of Louis Theroux’s My Scientology Movie at the London Film Festival. We thought it was hilarious. Louis has such an amazing sense of timing, and his comedic talents are otherworldly. Continue reading Chris Shelton: What Louis Theroux missed about the Scientology experience in his film
Jon Atack is the author of A Piece of Blue Sky, one of the very best books on L. Ron Hubbard and Scientology. He has a new edition of the book for sale, and for more than three years he’s been helping us sift through the legends, myths, and contested facts about Scientology that tend to get hashed and rehashed in books, articles, and especially on the Internet.
It is difficult to accept that you’ve been following orders from a guy behind a curtain with a megaphone. Better to make up any excuse than accept the Wizard as he really is and own the embarrassment. How was it that we became dependent when we had been promised “self-determinism”? Continue reading Scientology’s biggest lie: That it will teach you to take control of your own life
[Federal Judge Ronald A. White] What started out as a major lawsuit against 82 defendants connected with Scientology — including its leader, David Miscavige — has ended suddenly and will not be going to trial. Continue reading Trademark lawsuit against Scientology’s drug rehab network settles weeks before trial
