After a landmark court case, Scientology watchers should be celebrating, not sniping

[Pete Griffiths, John McGhee, and John Duignan in happier days]

Jon Atack is the author of A Piece of Blue Sky, one of the very best books on L. Ron Hubbard and Scientology. He has a new edition of the book for sale, and for more than four years he’s been helping us sift through the legends, myths, and contested facts about Scientology that tend to get hashed and rehashed in books, articles, and especially on the Internet.

KID CORPS: When a disease outbreak brought Scientology unwanted attention

Ron Hubbard. We’re fortunate that one man has done so much to collect huge numbers of such documents — Mark “Warrior” Plummer, who left Scientology in 1983, and is pretty legendary for the collection of church materials he’s amassed. Also helping us is Sunny Pereira, who spent several weeks working with Mark to pull out key documents for us to discuss.

Charles Manson and Scientology: What the church doesn’t want you to know

In 2013, author Jeff Guinn produced a formidable book, Manson, about one of the 20th century’s most enigmatic figures. We enjoyed Guinn’s new look at Charles Manson, and we were interested in the way he carefully placed Manson’s Scientology involvement in context.

Most remote large city in the world won’t be overlooked by Scientology’s zeal to be ‘ideal’
