In 2009, Cathriona White moved from Ireland to California. That same year, this photograph was taken. It was posted by celebrity photographer Joshua Shultz, who is sitting at the right. Next to him is a small-time actor named Tyler Hynes (in the red cap). Next to him is a man who is labeled “shmayle,” then actress Erika Christensen, Tama Leia (McCormick) Stewart, and Tama’s husband, Taylor Newton Stewart. They are young Scientologists, and soon most of them will become part of Cat White’s life. Continue reading Meet the young Hollywood types who introduced Cathriona White to Scientology

Last night, Alex Gibney’s documentary about Scientology, Going Clear, began a theatrical run at the Muvico 10 in Palm Harbor, Florida, just a few miles from Scientology’s own “spiritual mecca” in Clearwater. And after the 7 pm showing, two of the people who appear in the film, former Scientologists Sara Goldberg and Mike Rinder, engaged in a Q & A that was moderated by WTSP Channel 10 television reporter Mike Deeson. Continue reading ‘Going Clear’ Q&A: Mike Rinder and Sara Goldberg take heat from Scientologists
Scientologist Ken Kramer (pictured) is on a mission. For several years, he’s run a website, psychsearch.net, that uses public record searches to collect stories about psychiatrists who have broken the law in some way.
That fits with Scientology’s hatred for psychiatry, embodied in its most goofy front group, Citizens Commission on Human Rights, which runs a museum in Hollywood, and sends out mobile museum displays, which blame the Holocaust on “evil psychs.” Continue reading An email that demonstrates how much Scientology loves going after the ‘evil psychs’

Her friends told us that when she began dating Carrey again earlier this year, she had recently finished the “Purification Rundown” course at the Hollywood Celebrity Centre, and had started on the “Survival Rundown,” an intense course that she reportedly had trouble with. Continue reading ‘Darth Xander’ files motion challenging Scientology’s anti-protesting injunction
[Jonny Jacobsen and your proprietor in Paris at the end of July]Our man in Paris, Jonny Jacobsen, is one of the most thorough, accurate, and dogged reporters we know. And it excites us to no end that he’s going to be covering an upcoming Scientology trial in Brussels that should be explosive. Like us, however, Jonny doesn’t actually make a living with his expertise on Scientology. He’s going to need some help if he’s going to get to the trial and cover it with the kind of effort he puts into everything. Continue reading Scientology’s showdown in Belgium: Here’s our plan to cover an epic battle
