The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has identified the sword-wielding man who was fatally shot Wednesday by police at the Inglewood Scientology Ideal Org as Brian Statler of West Los Angeles, who was 30 years old.

You’ve heard harrowing stories about Sea Org members making suicide threats and suicide attempts, making hazardous attempts to run away, and some have even threatened to go to the press just to get themselves out of the Sea Org. Scientology’s Narconon drug rehab expansion plans DENIED in Maryland and Michigan

Frederick County, Maryland officials tell the Underground Bunker that a court settlement has ended the efforts by a Scientology subsidiary to get a zoning change so that it could build a 16-bed Narconon drug rehab center at the Trout Run land parcel, a contentious battle that has been going on for four years. Researcher Mary McConnell cautions us, however, that Scientology may still be able to open a smaller, boutique rehab at the location.

In Michigan, meanwhile, Anita Senkowski reports that a planning board voted 4-0 yesterday to deny a couple who wanted to open a Narconon rehab in their large home.

This story is getting stranger by the minute. We just saw Dave Lopez reporting for KCBS Channel 2, who said that the sword-wielding man who was shot dead by police officers today at the Inglewood Scientology org had arrived in a white Bentley.

We were stunned this morning to receive a copy of an email sent out to Scientologists on March 19 that contained a bizarre “success story” from a parishioner encouraging other Scientologists to do an “internship” to become an auditor at the London org. We did a real double-take when we realized that the Scientologist in the photo was none other than Tom Cruise’s daughter, Isabella.
