Scientology has a new article from front group CCHR, the Citizens Commission on Human Rights. For years Scientology has courted the United Nations as it fights attempts by governments to tax, regulate, or prosecute the church. In August we reported that a Scientology front group was granted Special Consultative Status by the UN.

Pete Combs, 1959-2019: A reporter who believed in the power of digging for the truth

We have interacted with many journalists around the world doing our work here at the Underground Bunker covering Scientology stories. Journalists who have come to get their questions answered, and others who have generously helped us with tips or documents, or just story suggestions. Scientology is an arcane and difficult subject to cover, and in the small fraternity of reporters who dive into it, we’ve enjoyed many professional exchanges with exceptional people.

LEAH REMINI: ‘Jackie Lacey, you have forgotten what side you are on’

[Actress Leah Remini and L. A.’s District Attorney, Jackie Lacey]

Last week we reported that a source close to Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey tells us that Lacey has no intention of charging Scientologist actor Danny Masterson even after a three-year LAPD investigation of rape allegations by a total now of six different women. If Masterson’s victims want to see him charged, our source told us, then they should hope that former San Francisco D.A. George Gascón unseats her in the March election that has her trying for a third term.

Last week we told you what we were hearing from a source close to Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey, who has been silent about a three-year LAPD rape investigation of That ’70s Show actor and Scientologist Danny Masterson: If Masterson’s victims want justice, they’ll have to hope she’s voted out of office in March and replaced by former San Francisco D.A. Jingle Bell Crock: LAPD cozies up to Scientology at its faux-Christmas shindig

[Scientology gives the LAPD a big check every year at holiday time]

“There was no Christ,” L. Ron Hubbard intoned during a 1968 lecture on the ship Apollo to his “Class VIII” students. And in earlier lectures, especially in 1953, just before Hubbard decided to create the first “Church of Scientology” corporation that December, Hubbard repeatedly hammers home the idea that you, an immortal being, created this universe out of boredom, and that the “god” concept is just a trick.
