We were stunned and saddened to learn that Ned McCrink, formerly Orange County, California’s top Scientology donor, ended his life on Monday morning. He was 67.

Today’s event in the criminal prosecution of Danny Masterson was scheduled to be a short hearing on a defense motion to dismiss, but it started out with a surprising appearance by attorneys for the Church of Scientology. [UPDATE: Judge Coen denied the defense’s motion and refused to dismiss Danny Masterson’s rape charges. Judge Olmedo quashed the subpoenas discussed in this story. See update below.] In January we told you that we’d heard from one of Danny Masterson’s accusers and a witness in the case that a new set of subpoenas had been issued by Danny’s criminal defense lawyers, and process servers were loudly banging on their doors, agitating their already frayed nerves. We’re stuck in chilly New York, so we won’t get a chance to attend the next important hearing in Danny Masterson’s criminal prosecution in Los Angeles like we did at his preliminary hearing last May.
