Tony Ortega is a journalist who was formerly the editor of The Village Voice. He's written about Scientology since 1995, and in May 2015 released a book about Scientology's harassment of Paulette Cooper titled 'The Unbreakable Miss Lovely.' He continues to monitor breaking developments in the Scientology world from an undisclosed location in an underground bunker he shares with four cats and one of them wrinkly Shar Pei dogs. Despite his super-secret security protections, you can still reach him pretty easily by sending him a message at tonyo94 AT gmail.com (Drop him a line if you'd like to get an e-mail whenever a new story is posted.)

Luis and Rocio Garcia
Federal District Judge James D. Whittemore today issued an order denying a motion by Scientology that would have ended the fraud lawsuit brought last year by former church members Luis and Rocio Garcia, who say they were scammed for hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations.
The Garcias were longtime members […]
We have another “quote video” that normally you can only see inside a Scientology “org.” In this case, it’s an excerpt that is used to entice church members to fork over $125 for a set of lectures that L. Ron Hubbard gave in Johannesburg in 1961.
The South African Anatomy Congress is described this way by […]
Last month we told you about Jillian Schlesinger, a young woman who escaped from Scientology’s “Sea Organization” and then, just weeks later, began telling her story for publication. We wondered if that short period between her dash for freedom and speaking out might be a sign of Scientology’s deepening crisis that is driving so many […]
On this special occasion, we’ll allow ourselves a little levity and congratulate Scientology leader David Miscavige on his 54th birthday with a humorous photo-illustration done by our old friend Jeffrey Augustine. […]
Back in 2011, when Rupert Murdoch was still paying for his iPad adventure, The Daily, a journalist named Benjamin Carlson did a really fine two-part series on the ultimate Scientology school, “Delphian” in Oregon. We thought it was clever that he referred to the high school as Scientology’s version of “Hogwarts.”
Although The Daily no longer […]
We have Chris Shelton’s next video, and we really like the way he traces the origins of Scientology’s notorious retaliation policy of “Fair Game” back to L. Ron Hubbard’s 1959 “Manual of Justice.”
As usual, Chris does an excellent job connecting the dots to illuminate a subject we thought we already knew well. And he’s right, […]
It’s that time of the week again, when we share with you the wacky fundraising mailers that the Church of Scientology sends out to its members around the world.
Our longtime readers have seen plenty of appeals for Ideal Org fundraising, and fliers urging Scientologists to hurry up and do their next course. But there are […]
We have a couple of really complex and lengthy stories working, but they take a lot of time to put together. In the meantime, we have some strange odds and ends that have been building up here in the Bunker and we thought we’d share some of them.
For example, a couple of weeks ago, we […]
Our video source came through again this week with another “quote video,” and this one goes way back, enticing you to buy an L. Ron Hubbard lecture from 1953 — Universe Processes Congress!
For only $150 from Bridge Publications, the full lecture series can be yours. As with our previous videos in this series, you normally […]
Ryan Hamilton
We’re trying to catch up with all of the Scientology legal news happening around the country. Ryan Hamilton, the Las Vegas attorney who is turning suing Scientology’s drug rehab network into a cottage industry, filed his fifth federal fraud lawsuit this week with another complaint against Narconon Fresh Start/Rainbow Canyon Retreat in […]
