Scientology about to throw its Harlem party — and we need your eyes and ears!

SciHarlem

Scientology has its soul duds on! These young staff members are in place in Harlem for tomorrow’s big block party, as David Miscavige opens yet another Ideal Org.

We’re very disappointed that we won’t be on the scene because of other obligations. We’d love to know if there are any New York correspondents who might want to check out the scene for us and maybe snap a few photos on Saturday. Please let us know.

We’re traveling today after a busy week on the road, and we hope you’ll bear with us as we try to get caught up on things.

We want to thank all of the people who sent well wishes about our health. We’re feeling better, and should be fully back to normal pretty soon. Being on the road tends to slow down that process.

But we did have a great trip to our old stomping grounds, and not only delivered a lecture at ASU’s Barrett the Honors College in downtown Phoenix, but the next night got to hang out with Skeptics in the Pub in Scottsdale (thank you, Jim Lippard, for the invite).

There’s lots of good stuff coming, and we are trying to catch up on recent developments. And please let us know if you can be in Harlem for us tomorrow!

At least from a distance, that car looks like it was left in a bad neighborhood and tagged multiple times. How, how, how is that hotel still in business???

    • I think it’s not a viable business but is kept running from separate investment income as a vanity project and tax write-off.

      Scientology: the bully cherch

      • Sid

Well, it worked for them when they wanted the Tom Cruise video taken down. Oh, wait, no that one didn’t. This one surely won’t backfire on them though.

        • Observer

They picked a little enough victim this time.

          • Sid

Maybe so, but I think the PR backlash could still emerge.

            • Supper Powers

I think you are both right. They did target a theater that likely has no stake in the game. It will take some great organizing, messaging and loud voices to inform the community of the latest act of strong arming their friendly town cult is up to. On principle alone, I would be outraged if I were a Clearwater resident.

            • L. Wrong Hubturd

Ha! We are both from a ways away from Clearwater, but we certainly have lots of others here who DO live there.

            • Supper Powers

Holler if you want a hand crafting letters etc. This is the kind of thing that should piss the most ardent Fox News viewer off.

            • aquaclara

Clearwater is well used to this. I posted above a moment ago; this is exactly how Scientology swept into town in the first place. Our best approach is to see how to help the movie theater feel comfortable enough to go back to running the screening.

And Clearwater residents will be silently outraged, knowing that nothing worked before.
This is going to take a bigger effort. I’m not available for the next two days, but after that, I will see what I can do to help.

They haven’t matched Kim Jong-il’s gall yet, but it’s a step down that road.
Kim Jong-il kidnapped a South Korean director and his wife and forced them to make movies. After they tried to escape they were sent to re-education camps for years.
        http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/2821221.stm

        • Sid

Scientology has their own re-education camps. They don’t teach auto-mechanics or Quickbooks Basics though so I didn’t think it worth going to see the Chaplain at Flag to get back onlines.

        • Mockingbird

Like Golden Era productions and the hole.

    • Libertylover

“allegedly receiving threats from the church” If that’s true they should be investigated. Of course it depends on what the threats were, we don’t have that information, but it is curious that they worded it that way.
Most likely if anything sticks, it will be dubbed an “independent” action of a rogue member, who will then be tossed under the bus.

    • Sid

I forgot, the First Amendment is theirs to play with as they like. In the First Amendment there are exceptions to the general protections, including obscenity, child pornography laws, speech that incites imminent lawless action, regulation of commercial speech such as advertising, and of course whatever Scientology wants.

Twitter @CobbTheatres (note spelling) loudly about this!!! Hash tagging #GoingClear and #Scientology for freedom of speech in Florida. Let’s go nuclear on their ass over this…not the theater, because they probably don’t have the legal recourses to fight them, but Floridians need to know an award winning documentary can not e screened due to the cult.

      • Lucille Austero
        • NOLAGirl (Stephanie)

This whole thing really pisses me off. I hate that they even have the power to do something like this. I’m off to have a cocktail. xoxoxox

      • aquaclara

Might actually do more good to see what kind of help they do need in order to feel safe enough to hold the screening. Blasting them will not help in my humble opinion.
How do you think Scientology got to where they are in Clearwater ? This is from the playbook for harassing business owners.

        • Supper Powers

Agreed. It has to be a message of “we support the theater to show what films it wants and to not be strong armed by the church.” If we blast them, they will not feel like they have allies. The CoS is the bad guy here.

          • aquaclara

exactly. I just popped a note to you down below! ha, too funny.

        • ReallyMGM

I agree they are victims too. But Floridians need to see how bad it is. How their business can be targeted.

          • aquaclara

Clearwater residents know this far too well. How many businesses do you think have been put through this treatment since Scientology sprang into town on their lying dead tree ass of a broomstick? All those empty buildings that Scientology has purchased over the years came somewhere.
Not taking this out on you, truly. But I saw far too much when I lived there, and this is bigger than one single business. And the mayor will do nothing.

            • ReallyMGM

No, I defer to you. You have lived it. And I have stated a 18 theater chain does not have the legal firepower to fight this insidious cult. It is a shame there is no legal defense fund for their victims.

Not too long ago, at the bus stop right near the Harlem Org I was approached buy an asian guy to sign a petition – they needed x amount of signatures for their church to close the street or something to have an event. It never occurred to me that it might be the Scientologists.

    • aquaclara

There you go, Scientology is always closer than you think. They love to hang out near bus stops, anyway. If it hadn’t been for this, it would have been for a “free” personality test that would hmmm, end up ever so not free.
Thanks for the news…love hearing from eyes and ears around this little planet.

      • iRideTheHarlemLine

Oh they love the spot in Harlem. Close to the busiest bus and subway lines in NYC, as well as the commuter rail station. I never saw anyone actually out on the street, but would always see volcano filled Dianetics and personality test postcards discarded on the sidewalks. Was hoping to get one for Paulette Cooper to sign the day she was in town, but alas didn’t see any. 😉

Just got this from Mike’s Blog, hmm how ironic would it be to have Tom Cruise and Juliette Lewis to present next year’s Oscar best documentary award. Have great weekend,be it going to Ideal Org or watch the broadcast of the Creative Emmy Awards

Scientology appears to believe they can now tell the citizens of Clearwater what movies they can watch.

    Another PR footbullet from Scientology.

I wonder if COB Theaters are ready for the backlash for buckling to
Scientology “threats” not to show the film? It’s still on their
    website even….

Wonder if they might change their minds about being scientology bitches when word gets out?

And I wonder how this is going to effect the Academy Award voters.
This is REALLY dangerous territory to be censoring movies. If there was
not already a backlash in Hollywood, this might bring it on.

    by Pamela McClintock

    9/18/2015 1:13pm PDT

A movie theater in Clearwater, Florida — home of the world
spiritual headquarters of the Church of Scientology — has dropped plans
    to play AlexGibney‘s
documentary Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief after
being pressured by the church, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

However, residents of Clearwater, including former members of the
church, still will be able to see Gibney’s Scientology movie when HBO
Documentary Films re-releases it in theaters. The AMC Woodlands Square
20 in the neighboring town of Olsdmar, some 12 miles from Clearwater,
has agreed to pick up the documentary and play it on behalf of HBO
    Films.

Going Clear was released in only a few theaters on March 13, 2015
before airing on HBO on March 29, scoring HBO’s biggest premiere ever
for a documentary. Gibney’s film, based onLawrence Wright‘s book of the same name, offers a damning view of Scientology, including the role such celebrities as Tom Cruise and John Travolta play in furthering the church’s efforts. It won three Emmys last Saturday, including outstanding documentary film.

Cobb Countryside 12, which had planned to play the movie,
informed HBO Documentary Films in recent days that it wouldn’t play
Going Clear after allegedly receiving threats from the church, according
to sources. It’s unclear what those threats were and to whom they were
directed. HBO declined to comment and Cobb could not immediately be
reached for comment. A representative of the Church of Scientology did
not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In most cases, major theater chains won’t play a film that is
available on other platforms. AMC has made exceptions for some specialty
films, agreeing to rent, or “four wall,” an auditorium. Sources say
that is the case with Going Clear.

As awards season gears up, HBO Films is re-releasing Going Clear
in roughly 20 theaters in select markets, beginning with New York, Los
Angeles, San Francisco. Washington, Miami and other major cities on
Sept. 25. On Oct. 2, it will book additional theaters in other markets,
    including AMC Woodlands Square.

Beginning in the 1970s, the church began establishing a
stronghold in Clearwater, a beach city on the west coast of Florida not
far from Tampa, referring to it as their “Flag Land Base.” In 2013,
Scientology leader David Miscavige led the dedication ceremonies of the Flag Building, a multi-million cathedral.

The Church of Scientology responded vehemently to the film,
complaining to film critics about their reviews and denouncing the
    filmmakers and their interviewees.

Did someone already post a link to today’s Scientology Money Project, great video by Brother Polight, especially at about 28:00 to 32:00 when he calls them so seriously on their racism and they close up shop! http://scientologymoneyproject.com/2015/09/18/polight-takes-on-scientology-guy-he-calls-police-on-polight/ – I hope he shows up tonight at the idle morgue!

  • IASREG

In Scientology expansion news I have been by the Champaign, Illinois Mission of Scientology twice recently and am pleased to report that the Scientology sign on the building is GONE, the literature box out front is GONE, and the cameras on the building are GONE. There is no Mission of Scientology Champaign on John Street anymore. It is likely that the Mission of Peoria is also defunct as there are no Scientology signs visible. Good riddance to bad rubbish!

    • Free Minds, Free Hearts

      Well scouted. IASREG!!!

    • salin

^^^^This is the declining state of Scientology^^^^

Two ‘missions’ are listed in google for Indianapolis – one is a residential house. No website for either. One has an almost never used FB page, and neither are listed on the official Scientology Locator database.

      • IASREG

I go through Indy fairly often, I will try to swing by those locations in the near future.

      • Free Minds, Free Hearts

Well, even in NYC it’s hard to tell – the FB and Sci pages have two different addresses.

      • Miss Cabbage

One “mission” was listed on Rockville Road at a private house, the other at Emerson and Thompson (an empty lot).
I cannot verify these so-called missions on the cult’s website but I do remember the location of the lot. It is near 5000 E Thompson Road. Here is a screenshot of the “mission.”

        • salin

Love to read your report (hadn’t caught the empty lot location.)

          Crickets can sometimes be glorious!

Too far away for me to easily explore first hand, but on google there is a Fort Wayne Mission. However on Scientology’s locator there is no Mission or org (let alone and Ideal! Org) in Indiana.

Guessing there are many ‘fly over’ states for which this is the case.

          • Miss Cabbage

If the cult has 10 million members as they claim, statistically there should be about 7,000 members in Indiana. Where do they go for auditing and course work?
I Googled the other location. It is a private house at 6451 Rockville Road. Image below.

            • salin

Absent. Maybe those 7000 are being serviced in Chicago, Cincinnati and St. Louis? Of course that would suggest those are hopping busy places – serving their proportional population of the 10 million – plus those Indiana adherents, who don’t have anywhere to go for servicing.

Quite the puzzle. … Unless when jumps to the obvious conclusion.

Epic fail at “planetary clearing” in this tiny sector of the earth.

OT: 2 pix….today i learned that gold finches will eat zinnia seeds from dying/dead zinnias…..i feel bad now for dead heading my zinnias last year to save the seeds—to plant for this year….i shan’t do that again…..there was 3 gold finches out there going to town today!

    http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/misstia/5549708/929111/929111_800.jpg

and here’s the pix of the crow who lost his crew yesterday—though around 5pm they were reunited about a block away, cuz i could still hear him flying from tree to tree calling out and finally i heard another crow answer, then a lot of crowing back and forth, then a flock of them flew over….i’m sure he was relieved….i know i was….

Just love these. Mr Crow looks quite the character, doesn’t he.

      • Miss Tia

he is!!! poor guy….at least he wasn’t lost today!! i heard no crow calling anywhere around here, so hopefully he learned not to get separated again!

    • Crows are fascinating. They are smart, metal and goth. Dodo likes.

            • daisy

Oh painful. So much better when you have the operation. You can tell the town girl from the city, they aint afraid of the highway. I have done it, but I get intimidated by aggressive cars. Any time you want to meet, I will give you e-mail address. I hope everything goes well with your surgery, let us know when your able to type after .Also let me know when you are going in,

I have been wanting to watch this one for months. My husband stayed up one night, watched it and told me about it..he brings it up all the time,so I’m glad I got to finally see it. Again, thanks!

      • The ravens at Grand Canyon were way awesome. We sat on the rim and bird watched for a couple of hours. Golden eagles, ravens and myriad smaller finches and tits. Wide angle field glasses rock.

    • ReallyMGM

I love birds! And zinnias! Thx!

      • Miss Tia

yeah, me too….who knew they ate zinnias? i knew they ate the sunflower seeds….but zinnias? now i know! 🙂

        • ReallyMGM

          They like thistle, too.

          • Miss Tia

yep, i put out thistle seed and i know there’s some growing the yard….there’s also some weed—i have zero clue what it is….but i let it grow every year, starting around august and let it take over because the gold finches LOVE the seeds from it…..i figure why not let them have some ‘free food’?

        • M from Toronto

I’ve got them on the Echinacea purpurea, which I’m sure they’re responsible for seeding all over the front garden. I was beginning to think I’d scattered seeds and forgotten. That picture is awesome.

          • Miss Tia

Thanks! Another bonus for having birds around—they sow seeds for us and give us ‘bonus flowers’ 🙂

These are marvelous pix – thx! I couldn’t get hardly any finchies to my Cafe des Oiseaux (Boid Cafe) this summer

The older I get the more absolutely enchanted I am by birds and everything about them

Am definitely seeing crazy old bird lady in my future 🙂

      • Miss Tia

I love watching the birds. I must be part cat? 😉 They are so fascinating to watch though, how they interact with each other, how some of them don’t mind other types of birds and some do. Gold finches are pretty territorial, I’ve seen more viciousness from them than from Blue Jays–who have a bad rep. One male gold finch chased another male gold finch—chased him—down the street one day (I was sitting out front and watched this) trying to attack him the whole way!! Damn!!! Robins will chase birds away from about 30′ within their nest. Get any closer and they are squawking and dive bombing! Mourning doves usually nest close to food. So if another bird is just hanging out by the nest they don’t mind. But if another mourning dove comes around?? They’re OFF to chase ’em away!!

Yeah, I watch birds a lot. Why have cable? Look out your windows! Natural tv!

        • worstcultever

Your last paragraph especially. To me it’s the visual equivalent of jazz.

          • Miss Tia

            aw thanks!

        • We had a very busy wren tit in our big, living room transom window, gobbling up the spiders from the corners of the screen. I love watching them when kinglets land in the japanese maple en masse, and go for the bugs! They’re so busy!

          • Miss Tia

Oh wow, that all sounds so fascinating to watch!!! I’ve never really seen birds go after bugs—except robins going after worms, of course.

      • Kay

Hey that’s OK…let me know when you feel like being the crazy old bird lady and I’ll get out my binoculars and we can just go for it..with the mismatching but weirdly sort of “camo” clothes, untanned legs, hiking boots, zinc oxide for our noses, weird hates, a cooler, (filled with yummy stuff) and of course “beverages.”

    • PlanetJ

      Great shots!
Glad to hear that he finally found his crow crew. 🙂

      • Miss Tia

thanks! yes, i was really happy for him when i finally heard him get some replies!

    • Kestrel

Can you leave some and deadhead enough for next year’s zinnias? Milkweed (also great for monarch butterfly caterpillars) and thistle are also important to them.

      • Miss Tia

i’m gonna leave them ALL the zinnias!! i’ll just go buy some seeds next spring to plant! i don’t have milkweed….i know there’s thistle in the yard…..i also buy the thistle seed for the finches…..after my huge huge butterfly bush died a couple winters ago (apparently that winter killed many butterfly bushes—i left it up as birds shelter in it) i’ve been fortunate to have ‘bonus’ butterfly bushes pop up! last year i had one next to my driveway and this year i’ve had one in front of my fence by the zinnias!

    • A bird in the chimney

They pick seeds from our dead cone flowers, here. They’re so lively and fun to watch. Also bossy, very bossy.

    • Kay

Great pics !!! I was watching a program on the Animal Planet last year about the top five smartest animals. Of course dolphins and whales were in the top five, but so were crows !! I was really surprised. They break off sticks to fish for grubs in dead logs, (tool selection and use) have quite complex mourning rituals, etc. It was very interesting. I was glad that I don’t eat crow. (I don’t mean that as a silly pun, I’m just truly glad that I didn’t have to add that to my “guilty” list)

      • M from Toronto

Corvids are amazing birds, Kay. There is a book The Mind of The Raven you might like. Crows are also great collectors. When I was a little girl one of the crows my Gran fed in the garden brought me all the milk tops from the entire street-except my Gran’s. That’s a drop the mike moment right there.

      • Miss Tia

        Damn, that is really smart!

    • noseinabk

I love watching the goldfinch hang upside down to eat the drooping sunflowers in my garden. They go nuts when I turn on a sprinkler and will keep flying through it. The most viscous bird in my yard (besides the hawk) is the hummingbird. I have 4 feeders out and even siblings will guard them and fight like crazy over a feeder. Last year one of them was hit so hard by another that she dropped an egg on my deck. Crazy.

      • Kay

I always have hummingbird feeders up and wow those are aggressive little buggers especially when they get close to migration season. They butt each other out of the sky…do these intense aerial “dog fights” over the feeder, etc. It’s pretty entertaining since no one gets seriously hurt.

      • Miss Tia

Damn!!! That IS vicious!!!! I had found some huge planter bottoms (the part that’s suppose to hold in water, can’t think of the ‘right’ name for them) a few years back. About 2 feet around, 4″ deep. This year I thought of filling them up as ground level bird baths. They LOVE ’em!!! I put a a big rock and/or stone figure in them. I like watching sparrows take their dirt baths too.

    • Birds are such a big part of our day here at Casa Enturbulata™. We have jays feasting on our Siberian Giant sunflower’s corpses outside the dining room window. Finches, tits and towhees abound hunting for seeds and insects. And then there are the crows. Always the crows doing all the awesome crow things with the neighborhood’s abundant walnuts. Having commuted daily on a bike for the last three years, I now know the neighborhood birds, and they know me. Thanks for the midwestern bird update!

      • Miss Tia

I have never seen crows eating anything. That would be awesome to see!! In the fall and winter they seem to ‘clock in’ and ‘clock out’ in trees around here. There’s no other way to refer to it. Every fall and winter around 6:30/7am they’ll gather in a tree around here all crowing away, then fly off together in a group. They do the same—coming from the direction they went to in the AM—around 4:30/5. I dunno where they ‘clock in’ and ‘clock out’ during the spring and summer.

    • Kay

Miss Tia…in looking at these pics again four hours later, may I say that I think the composition of the top one with the finch is really beautiful. It looks really professional, and as they say “the eye travels” on this one because the lines are so good. I’m no art critic, but hey I think that is really a good picture.

      • Miss Tia

Thank you very much!! I try to center my pix, etc. I do zero editing to them, I just like to keep them ‘naturally original’.

    • TheMirrorThetan

Crows are on my shitlist at the moment.
Two of them recently moved into the neighbourhood are endlessly harassing my Magpie family just while they are having babies.

      • Miss Tia

I’ve never seen black and white crows like that!! They look awesome, but I can empathize with them being on your shit list.

        • TheMirrorThetan

Those are my magpie family. Our crows are just like yours.
They are double the size of the magpies and magpies and crows fight like hell constantly tormenting each other and ripping each others nests apart if they get the chance.

          • Miss Tia

Damn, that’s some Hatfield and McCoy stuff going down between them!!

  • So Harlem will get it’s own Idle Org tomorrow. Harlem will shrug and keep being Harlem.

That Russian guy looks gayer than a day at the beach. Maybe he’s hiding out from Putin & the Ortho Church in the clam shack. Hey dude, Hubbard hates you too!

I do like his cool shirt.

That car – just hurts my entire being to look at. Sometimes bad art can achieve such heights (depths). I suppose it goes well with that whole oddball/lousy art hustle/shabby accommodations castle joint.

    • A bird in the chimney

Mostly rhetorical: Why does he look gay? His body language? He’s teaching them ballroom, and pretty much looks like every other guy who slings around Pasa Doble arms. But you are right–days at the beach are fun and frothy.

That car drove through a series of pratfalls on a movie set, and then went through the car wash. I think it’s causing such a stir for the opposite reasons JM wants to think.

      • worstcultever

The two pix just caught him in such stereotypical old-school “gay” poses (like pre-code 1930s movies, also he looks like my very handsome oldest gay boyfriend. Personal gaydar thing. I actually meant it as a compliment, being a gay myself. Of course he might be a handsome straight guy like Lugli. Whatever the case, I hope he escapes Hubbard sooner rather than later.

        • A bird in the chimney

Gotcha. To me they’re so stereotypical “ballroom” that’s all that registered. (congrats on nabbing such a cutie bf.) And I hope so too. Maybe I’ll just imagine he’s not a $ciBot, and just took the gig to make money off them.

        • aquaclara

Yes!!! Saw them, too. How small this world is!

  • More I think about it, more I realize how epically awkward the opening ceremony will be in Harlem tomorrow.
Will Louis and Alfreddie be there? Do they think black community is too stoopid to google scientology? Heh.

    • Ben Franklin

They are hoping to get black celebrities like Kanye West, Jay Z, Beyonce etc. That is the goal. The more he can get into the church doing courses, the more commission he can make. It is all about the dollars.

      • Jimmy3

I think that’s a narrow view, even for them. Jay-Z is from the Marcy Projects in Brooklyn. Just because he’s black doesn’t mean he has an affinity for Harlem.

        • Nat-leficent

I think Harlem is more than just an average neighborhood. It’s a symbol of pride that eclipses other places and accomplishments. But then, I was a lit major XD

          • Jimmy3

Sorry, that wasn’t meant as an insult. I know Nat is just about as straight-edge as they come. But I couldn’t resist the “lit major” joke. Because I am weak.

I get that message from ATT every 2 seconds worst internet ever.

          • Kay

I agree. Harlem is very interesting and culturally diverse. It is a also a place where a lot of important historical events took place for black americans. Religion is an integral part of the social fabric in Harlem. I think it would be a hard sell for Scientology to offer itself as an alternative to traditional black churches and black gospel music in Harlem. (Especially if “We Stand Tall” is all the musical richness Scientology has to offer Harlem)

            • Robert Eckert

“Especially if “We Stand Tall” is all the musical richness Scientology has to offer Harlem” Not at all! They also have the rap stylings of Chill E B to offer.

            • Fink Jonas

“Thank you for listening” will crack them up.

            • Kay

ahhh… I totally forgot my “muse” Mr. Chill E B ! How COULD I have been so remiss ??

            • Fink Jonas

scientology just wants to meddle into everything around the world hopping to become mainstream, I hope they get spotted (for what they are)in Harlem and once they do they will be kicked out of there

            • Kay

I totally agree….they’re just trying to con people, and I am hopeful that the residents of Harlem are hip enough to see them for what they are, not what they are promising them. Lots of bright people live in that community…I’d like to see them take the cherch on in a respectful, but intelligent and well-informed way.

        • Ben Franklin

Harlem for Scientology represents “a black neighborhood” i’e Scientology doing something for blacks. It is a “look good” project for Scientology if you take away political correctness. Louis Farrakhan has been very busy trying to get black celebrities into Scientology. It is not a secret. Just a few months ago there was a story about Beyonce’s mom taking Scientology courses or marrying a Scientologist. Something to that effect

          • Kay

I’m sure that is probably true…and that shows how idiotic Scientology can be.

      • Of course. Good luck to them, although Kanye West joining scientology for a minute,
        would be hilarious.

        • He is in a different kult.

        • noseinabk

The thought of Miscavige meeting Kanye is hilarious. What a battle of the egos that would be.

Louis Farrakhan has been courting a number of black celebrities including the Kardashians. It wouldn’t surprise me if any of them have been introduced to Dianetics an Hubbard’s teachings

          • Yep. They already posed together on Instagram, I think.

            • Fink Jonas

              yes is on google images

          • Royce Harlow

I read somewhere recently that Beyonce’s mom has been dabbling in Scientology. It would be fun to have an insider or someone with inside scoop capabilities confirming this.

      • A bird in the chimney

Harlem is an affordable (it’s all relative in NYC) secondary foothold in Manhattan. Also a concentrated Nation of Islam presence. In a nabe with an under-served demographic–which is something we’ve witnessed $ci likes to prey on, as they’re both unsuspecting and desperate for any “aid” or “opportunities” offered.

I’d speculate landing big celebs isn’t the push. There are none at the other Org, just off Times Square. Getting exposure on smaller, multiple fronts, offered by the community–and scoring legitimacy points with their “learning tech” and etc–could be the main motivation.

        • Ben Franklin

Having an org in Harlem is just for the IRS, just like the one in inglewood to make it look as if the church cares

          • A bird in the chimney

I thought the goal was celebs and dollars. ;]

            • Ben Franklin

It is still about celebrities and dollars. Having a Scientology Church in Harlem or Inglewood takes away makes it look more mainstream.

        • Ben Franklin

These guys are definitely not in the business of “aid” or “opportunities”, they are strictly about the dollars. I don’t think they are even interested in the Muslims in Harlem. Scientology see Farakhan as somewhat an opinion leader within the black community that several rich black celebrities listen to. Farakhan on the other hand sees this as an opportunity to make big money off commissions for every celebrity he reefers and the services they register for.

          • A bird in the chimney

There’s a reason I put aid and opportunities in quotes. Don’t take me at such face-value; we’re basically agreeing, here.

I am as well aware of $ci’s rapacious true nature as any other Bunkerite or critic.

    • noseinabk

I’m a little concerned about what I am seeing in the community via the videos. I wish that they would dig deeper and realize that this is not a just a white man’s cult started by a bigot and that many have tried to expose the fraud and keep it out of ALL communities.

      • Very important point. Scientology does not discriminate in manipulating.

        • noseinabk

Exactly. In the videos I’ve seen the guys start out as articulate and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, they start fighting with each other over other religions and this makes them wide open to OSA playing them against each other instead of Cos.

      • Kay

        I agree.

  • Fink Jonas

On the HBO Now ad, there is a scene of big blue, I believe is from the movie Going Clear, is the church trending or the movie is trending? I’m not sure but its cool that they used that footage in there.

  • Supper Powers

Christine spoke at the Portland Org tonight.

    Bummer.

    • Graham

Bizarre to see the walls of such a small meeting lined with ‘security’. You’d think they were expecting a riot- except we all know this is about the regging. I’d hate to go to a meeting and feel myself spied on from the side-lines by men in suits.

    • Royce Harlow

I count about 25 heads there sitting. What a turnup.

  • May I speak in my capacity as Official Spokesmonkey for the International Car World and just say that you’ve ruined a perfectly lovely DB9, you sad, commerical, hack?

    • noseinabk

Has anyone looked up the retail value of this car before it was defaced?

      • Jimmy3

I looked up the retail value of an Aston Martin DB9, but then my friend’s dumbass little kid spilled MS Paint all over it. I have no idea. All I can see is puke-colored rainbows at this point.

        • noseinabk

I started to look it up earlier today and the price was in the 100 to 200 thousand range depending on the year. Funny thing is, the car looks like a random old ford taurus to me.

          • Jimmy3

Bullshit! It looks like a Honda Civic that woke up in a wet ball pit at the local Chuck E. Cheese’s. You don’t know anything about cars.

            • noseinabk
            • Jimmy3

I have to go get crunk. But would you email me at thisisnotafakeacct @ gmail ? I have something to tell you and something to ask you. None of it is urgent or important. But it’d be cooler if you did. I’m off now to look up the definition of ‘crunk’ because I have no fricken idea what I’m talking about.

            • noseinabk

I sent you an email. ? If you didn’t get it I am noseinabk2 at that Gmail thingy.

      • DB9s start in the mid 100,000s

R2, my mother screamed aloud, so she will once again vote for you as spokesmonkey.

They all have what Kim’s holding and the only woman in that gif, is on the T-shirt. LOL

I would actually spend money to buy one of them shirts.

  • Hey, Miscavige, you need to up your game. Cheers.

    • EmmaDaoust

That’s a voice. And he’s adorable too. Oops, shameless girly fan talk.

      • That video is a joke, but the dude hits real close to Dio.

        • EmmaDaoust

I did get the subtle self-deprecating satire. That’s what makes him so endearing.:)

  • I wonder if there was any specifics as to the who and what who made the apparent threats made to Clearwater cinema by Scientology that caused them to cancel the showing of Going Clear this week? Kim Jong-un tried to prevent movie the Interview being released, perhaps we should find out who at the Church did this and send them to North Korea too set up a Ideal org. I am sure Miscavige or his agents would feel at home there!

    • Jimmy3

I’ve been wondering about this, too, and I’m quite sure it will be a story that leaks out. They have absolutely no legal footing to file a lawsuit, but we all know that sometimes, just the very threat of a lawsuit is enough to back people down. They don’t know any better. That’s one angle.

But given it’s proximity to one of their bases, I wouldn’t doubt if it were more sinister a threat, however subtle. No one wants shady people hanging around and taking pictures while you’re just out to see a film. No one wants people following them in and out of the theater.

It could tank their business. And it doesn’t matter which ticket people are buying. Shady people are casually crowding around any establishment, and the people will go elsewhere. They implement a strategy and put the word out that “if you see a movie at this theater, you’re a target.”

It’s sickening, but very easy to implement. They don’t want any part of that shit.

      • EmmaDaoust

I just keep thinking how great it is that it’s been showing across Canada and I haven’t heard a thing about any grief from the cult. I saw it in March in downtown Toronto, and it’s been showing at rep theatres here almost every month I think, including this weekend. It’s on in Kitchener (which is near Cambridge and the newly opened Idle Org), Kingston, and Vancouver, that I’ve seen listed so far.

        • Jimmy3

This theater is only special because it’s in Clearwater. They believe that is their city, their own private piece of America. It’s a pride thing, and, Good Ron forbid, a security risk. Miscavige doesn’t a) want this shown in a city he believes he owns outright, b) having another anti-Scientology spectacle in his backyard, and c) what if a minion gets loose and spends the few dollars they have on seeing this? Good Ron, please, no.

          • EmmaDaoust

It’s beyond unfathomable. It’s like High Noon. Here’s to the people of Clearwater taking back their city. The day will come.

          • Supper Powers

Plus right afterwards, everyone will run out of the theater and down to Flag to heckle them.

          • Free Minds, Free Hearts

Well they are right. They own the town and apparently the police force, mayor and city council too.

          • Robert Eckert

Cobb Theaters should put out a sign “Sea Org members admitted free”

            • Dee Findlay-DeElizabethan

That would be fantastic. Also to those who show their IAS membership cards. What a blast!

          • A new religious movement has a list of things that it needs to do if it is to survive the death it’s founder. The only one that the CofS has actually managed to achieve is to dominate a geographical area.

It’s a small one, and they have driven out all the inhabitants, but they do own part of the City of Clearwater. It’s their inner sanctum (and a potential refuge for all true believers, should the IRS disaster strike). They will defend it.

Final confirmation that the CoS is dead will come when the City of Clearwater takes back its politicians its cops and, finally, control over its own territory.

      • Kay

I completely agree…if the threat is legit, those threatening could certainly intimidate patrons out of going to any of the movies at that particular theater complex, especially in light of some of the theater shootings in the past year. (people are sensitized to the fact that being in a movie theater can be unfortunately, sometimes be dangerous. ) If I went to a movie and saw demonstrators, agitators, or people intimidating theater goers, I would be outta there. I wouldn’t put it past them to put their presence out there.

      • Libertylover

The Church was probably smart enough to not make threats of violence.
My guess is they trashed the film as a “propaganda piece” full of errors and LIES made by a few people bitter at being kicked out of the beautiful church. Then they said that DM is already under threat from Jewish businessmen and said they would sue or protest if they didn’t shut down this dangerous movie that may cause more threats to Scientologists to be made by people fired up on this lying movie. Movie theater probably folded when threatened with litigation that it just can’t afford.
Anyway I’m sure that they will try to look like victims even though they are the aggressor.

        • Kay

Ah yes….the spectre of the mysterious threatening Jewish Businessman stalker. Be afraid, very afraid. I’ve heard Mel Brooks has been making a lot of phone calls from various city phone booths using rolls of quarters and looking very amused with himself after each call….

      • Yes of course. I think this movie should be a prerequisite for all advanced courses. and especially for all who have done advanced courses. If someone involved with Scientology can’t handle other viewpoints and those who disagree it shows they have made no real case gains and are living in delusional states! The Factors share this and maybe should be factored in! lol 🙂

  • Free Minds, Free Hearts

Is this OT? I saw the new YA movie Scorched Trials tonight and the guy Jorge really reminds me of Tony. I had a crush on him because of that!

    • Free Minds, Free Hearts

      see what I mean?

      • Kay

Yes and I can see why you were crushing on him. 🙂

        • Free Minds, Free Hearts

well because I have a crush on Tony!

          • Kay

Yup..absolutely !! He does bear a resemblance so transferring your “crushness” in this case, would be easy !!!

    • Kay

I can see a similarity, but frankly I think Tony is much more handsome. (no disrespect to Jorge, he’s a nice looking man) I think their beards and curly hair are similar.

      • Free Minds, Free Hearts

It was partly how he smiled…

  • Lady Squash

Glad you are feeling better, Tony. I was sending you OT postulates for wellness.

  • Kay

Does it seem to you guys like a lot of the regulars haven’t been here the past few days? It seems to me like we have quite a few missing, especially for a Friday night.

    • Jimmy3

      Probably just laundry day.

      • Kay

Laugh !!! Reminds me of my old college and early working days after college when I had to use laundromats all the time. What a pain. One night in a laundromat, I had to go next door to get quarters and I asked this clean cut college kid who went to my school and lived in the neighborhood if he could keep an eye on my stuff for five minutes. Well you are already thinking “how dumb are you?” Well at 19, pretty dumb. So I went back and he had taken all of my sheets, pillowcases, towels, and all of my women’s clothing except for the underwear !! Instead of being uber upset over the theft, I was insulted that he didn’t want my lingerie: as in”hey those were cuuuute!!! why did you not want them !! Those are classy Victoria’s Secret things…Does my taste in lingerie suck THAT much? I’m so never gonna get a date for this weekend……..waaaaah.” LOL

Why the big secret opening of Harlem? There is nothing on their Facebook or webpage or anywhere on the web. Anyone found out what time it’s starting?

    • The Cos S is currently desperate for positive PR in the wake of the success of “Going Clear”, and the only way they know how to do this is to open (or re-open) buildings. They want to crow about this ‘new, ideal’ site on their websites and other outlets and, if possible, obtain some coverage in the real event press.

All they really want out of this is some good pictures. They will make the rest up.

If the press or public found out that these facilities were barely finished when they were opened and virtually empty afterwards, that would defeat the object. Also, then can’t get the area closed off in this case, so protesters can get in and might spoil the pictures or generate some negative PR for the CofS.

I’m guessing they will try to hide the opening until the very last minute, get their pictures as quickly as possible, then go into lockdown.

OK….esteemed and most talented bunkerites, goodnight. Gotta go to the airport early. byyeeee

How come there are no pictures of black people in this post? is Harlem we talking about here I was expecting to see lots of smiling happy people, confetti, some famous faces like Luis Farrakhan and all the gang etc etc, I guess not.

  • Are_sics

I have mixed feelings about sharing this, since there’s so much to be qualified and criticized, but the picture of redshirts in Harlem just brought it to mind so strongly, obviously Posted just on Sept 6 on youtube is Brother Polight vs. scilons:
