Why the IRS will likely do nothing about Mormon and Scientology illegal slush funds

Monday night, the Washington Post uncorked a stunning investigation based on a whistleblower’s confidential report to the IRS. The report, written by a former employee of a subsidiary of the Mormon church, claimed that the church has, in violation of its tax exempt status, amassed a fortune of $100 billion. And instead of making expenditures of that money for charitable purposes, it’s been using the money to bolster the church’s for-profit enterprises.

The Scientology spy who wants desperately to come in from the cold

So you’ve been spying undercover for the Church of Scientology for years. Decades, in fact. You’ve infiltrated squirrel groups and anti-Scientology protests for the church’s spy wing, the Office of Special Affairs (OSA). You’ve even infiltrated psychiatric facilities in order to feed information to Scientology’s most unhinged front group, the Citizens Commission on Human Rights.

Scientology celebrated New Year’s Eve on Saturday, and once again we had someone there

Scientology leader David Miscavige welcomed in the new decade Saturday night at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles as the church, per its usual custom, celebrated New Year’s Eve a couple of weeks early so it could be filmed and then shown at its facilities around the world on the evening of December 31.

Scientology trying to use its UN connections to fight its favorite bogeyman, psychiatry

Scientology has a new article from front group CCHR, the Citizens Commission on Human Rights. For years Scientology has courted the United Nations as it fights attempts by governments to tax, regulate, or prosecute the church. In August we reported that a Scientology front group was granted Special Consultative Status by the UN.

Scientology will try to force Danny Masterson accusers into its internal ‘arbitration’

[Plaintiffs: Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Chrissie Carnell Bixler]

The Church of Scientology has notified three women, each of them former Scientologists who say they were raped by Scientologist actor Danny Masterson and have sued the actor and the church, that it plans to derail their lawsuit and force them into Scientology’s brand of internal arbitration, citing contracts they signed as members years and even decades ago.

Pete Combs, 1959-2019: A reporter who believed in the power of digging for the truth

We have interacted with many journalists around the world doing our work here at the Underground Bunker covering Scientology stories. Journalists who have come to get their questions answered, and others who have generously helped us with tips or documents, or just story suggestions. Scientology is an arcane and difficult subject to cover, and in the small fraternity of reporters who dive into it, we’ve enjoyed many professional exchanges with exceptional people.

The LAPD has evidence a Scientology official it’s seeking has been sent to the Freewinds

[Hiding in plain sight?]

There are six women talking to the Los Angeles Police Department now in the agency’s three-year investigation of rape allegations against Scientologist actor Danny Masterson. And the evidence the police have forwarded to the L.A. District Attorney’s office has been described as “overwhelming” by journalist Yashar Ali.

LEAH REMINI: ‘Jackie Lacey, you have forgotten what side you are on’

[Actress Leah Remini and L. A.’s District Attorney, Jackie Lacey]

Last week we reported that a source close to Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey tells us that Lacey has no intention of charging Scientologist actor Danny Masterson even after a three-year LAPD investigation of rape allegations by a total now of six different women. If Masterson’s victims want to see him charged, our source told us, then they should hope that former San Francisco D.A. George Gascón unseats her in the March election that has her trying for a third term.

George Gascón goes there: Elect him Los Angeles D.A., and Danny Masterson gets a fresh look

[D.A. candidate George Gascón and actor Danny Masterson]

Last week we told you what we were hearing from a source close to Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey, who has been silent about a three-year LAPD rape investigation of That ’70s Show actor and Scientologist Danny Masterson: If Masterson’s victims want justice, they’ll have to hope she’s voted out of office in March and replaced by former San Francisco D.A. George Gascón.
