5. Another of Chaim’s friends, Sijbren de Hoo, was a Dutch bureaucrat who worked with Rodrigues Lopes in a mad dash to raise funds to bribe Nazi soldiers to save the Bucholc girls. Found among his papers in 2012 was a photo of Suzy Bucholc and a leather artifact made by Chaim, confirming his relationship to the family. (He’s seen here after the war with an unidentified member of his family.)
