Beginning in 2003, Scientology leader David Miscavige began an ambitious program — to replace normal “orgs” in cities around the world with gleaming, larger new “Ideal Orgs” in order to attract more people to the church.
While there’s no evidence that the new buildings are increasing membership (in fact, evidence suggests Scientology continues to shrink), Miscavige has convinced his donors to raise many millions around the world to keep the program going.
