There it is in the Nxivm court file, the confirmation of what we’d heard earlier, that Lauren Salzman was among those Nxivm defendants deciding to plead guilty before trial is scheduled to begin next month.
Frank Parlato broke the news tonight that Lauren’s plea was in a court document that had been unsealed, and that she’s pleading guilty to one count of racketeering and one count of racketeering conspiracy. He estimates that she’s looking at four to six years in prison when she’s sentenced on November 11.
Meanwhile, we learned in the last couple of days that Clare Bronfman has been trying to work out some kind of plea deal — and with the help of Michael Avenatti! — and before that we had heard that actress Allison Mack and bookkeeper Kathy Russell were also planning to plead guilty.
That would leave only Nxivm leader Keith Raniere to face a jury trial, which is scheduled to begin on April 29. Would it make it more or less interesting for the trial to feature only Raniere? Let us know your thoughts on that.
We found this description of Lauren Salzman by Parlato particularly poignant. She really is a pathetic figure.
Lauren was one of the early recruits for the secret society within NXIVM/ESP that is known as Dominus Obsequious Sororium (DOS) – Master Over The Slave Women. But even though she had been involved with NXIVM/ESP – and with Raniere – for a much longer period of time, it was Allison Mack that Raniere chose to be the head of DOS. So, Lauren ended up being one of Mack’s slaves before she put together her own block of slaves, one of whom was Sarah Edmondson. Now in her early 40s, it is unlikely that Lauren will ever experience the joys of motherhood. In addition to likely being past her child-bearing years by the time she gets out of prison, it is unlikely that Lauren will ever become an adoptive parent. It’s hard to think of anyone other than Lauren who sacrificed more – and ended up with less – in the service of NXIVM/ESP.
Here’s the document confirming that Lauren Salzman is pleading guilty…
