LIVE REPORTS: Scientology leader David Miscavige opens “Ideal Org” in Colombia today

BogotaMiscavige

Scientology leader David Miscavige is scheduled to open the latest “Ideal Org” today, this time in Bogotá, Colombia, and we have a correspondent on the scene.

It’s been less than three months since Miscavige opened an Ideal Org in Basel, Switzerland, which is a much faster pace than he set the last two years. (There was only one Ideal Org opened in all of 2014, in Sydney, though the existing Advanced Org in Copenhagen also got a facelift that year.)

We’ve written extensively on the Ideal Org push by Miscavige, but if you’re new to Scientology watching, what’s important to know is that beginning in 2003, the Scientology leader set a goal to replace all of the existing churches — called “orgs” in Scientology parlance — with gleaming new cathedrals, financed by local members. These are not new outposts for the church, but merely replacements for facilities that already existed. But the purpose of it is to give the impression that with new buildings opening, Scientology is expanding — when voluminous evidence actually suggests the opposite. After an initial push of new buildings, things have slowed down as fundraising efforts in places like Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Boston, Montreal, Toronto, Kansas City, and in California have left the church with decaying buildings the locals can’t afford to renovate.

But the money was found to spruce up an eight-story building in Bogotá, and we’re guessing this is one case when Miscavige paid for it from the funds of the International Association of Scientologists (IAS) as he is doing in New Zealand, where there just aren’t enough local members to raise big sums. The Bogotá building cost $5 million US to renovate, according to a local newspaper.

According to the map, it’s on the north side of downtown, at the intersection of a major east-west thoroughfare, Avenida Calle 100, and Carrera 19. The building is on the northwest corner…

That’s a very large intersection, so we’re hoping our correspondent can get a decent view of what’s going on. As soon as we start receiving reports, we’ll let you know what’s going on.

Oh, and one note that we know will generally tend to get ignored: “Columbia” is a university in New York City. “Colombia” is a country in South America.

10:13 am

Good morning, campers. We hope you had a swell Independence Day in the former colonies. Or just a nice July 4 elsewhere.

While we wait for things to heat up in Bogotá, we’ll go over a few numbers.

First, it’s not really going to heat up in Bogotá today. The city is four degrees north of the equator, so it’s summer there, but it’s only reaching about 68 Fahrenheit today, or 20 Celsius, and rain is on the menu.

And here are some numbers to chew on. According to El Tiempo, a major newspaper in Bogotá, the renovation of the Ideal Org building cost about 5 million US, and will serve the country’s 40,000 Scientologists — a figure they got from a local church representative.

As if. Well, let’s apply the usual modifier. In England, Scientology claims it has about 120,000 members, but the most recent Census said the number was just over 2,000. So using the same Scientology math, we’d expect there to be only about 600 Scientologists in Colombia, and even that sounds rather optimistic. So if there’s a crowd of about 2,000 today, as there tend to be at these events, we have a feeling there’s been some busy busses from Venezuela, as well as some Americans who have flown down.

Hey, girl. Scientologist Eduardo Galan penned this poem on his way to Bogotá…

Eduardo_Galan

Being a poet airport
It is to write off the stewardess
It is to inspire among suitcases
And write in the clouds
Is no fear of turbulence understand many lives
Is an unknown
They are children crying
surprised
dilute a sunset in words
write on a napkin
It is to hate the food booth
have everything and lose it in days
Not finishing a film
And mourn with a song
It is surprising and again music
It is back and back at the same time
It is to love many kilometers per hour
cheap food
It is wrong suitcase
Understand that the rear seat
He’s an idiot
And seeing the person in your life …
And then out of the bathroom to see her husband
It is created in the midst of heaven and earth
And see the sea
watch the sea
And see the sea

Tom Cruise was in Nashville last night…

CruiseNashville

Which doesn’t mean anything as far as Scientology goes. Cruise hasn’t been at an Ideal Org opening since 2004, and you wouldn’t expect him in Colombia. If you missed our earlier tweet, we pointed out that the Star magazine story claiming that Cruise is leaving the organization offers up almost no proof whatsoever, and the only hard fact it thinks it knows — that Cruise skipped the last Scientology anniversary event (we assume they mean IAS gala) — is just dead wrong, as we showed last October.

    • Juicer77

There has been much discussion since the Star printed this drivel. Even if there is some grain of truth in the story that Tom got a little misty after talking to Suri on the phone, that certainly does not equate leaving the Co$. There is always a little room for doubt, but in this case, I sincerely think it’s puff. Speculation has also been rife as to which PR camp “spilled” the story, his people or the MI movie promoters.

      • aquaclara

As one with a little experience in dance recitals, if you have any kind of interest in your child, you show up. Just like baseball and soccer. At classes every week, well before the date for the recital is even booked. Then you show up at the dress rehearsal, at the recital, at the fittings. You buy the pics, save the programs, arrange for dress-up tutus for playtime, go see the Nutcracker, buy the flowers on the big day and take tons of pics, before anxiously awaiting the next round of classes. A full year before another recital. Age 3,4,5,6….

So where the hell has TC been? WHOOSH. Nowhere.

That’s why I don’t buy the teary eye at this year’s recital season.

Thank heavens, Katie is a great mom and has all this covered. TC is a fraud.

        • Frodis73

^^^This, 100%. Recital time is a big deal.

      • BeezleBobby

And anyway, why would he have to leave the cult just to see more of Suri? The COS can’t declare Suri or Katie SP like rank and file members, the cult can’t afford the PR hit. They will never hold TC to the same rules as everyone else. There is nothing stopping Tom from seeing Suri as much as he wishes. Maybe Davey’s a bad influence?

        • Juicer77

Excellent point. He’s got more free passes than Kobe Bryant. You can bet, like any manipulative narcissist, that Davey whispers poison into TC’s ear every chance he gets.

      • phoebequeen

Yeah, I read that and laughed. So true.

    • They’re all sourced back to that Star story that Tony dissected. Some of the echos are two or three hops away, but eventually lead there.

  • On OT 9&10, everyone will be able to create a clone of themselves that looks like Tom Cruise and talks like Dave Miscavige. It will be a beautiful, free world at last! And if you don’t like it – fuck you!

Just a thought on why the Dainty Miss made such a short appearance in Bogota. P’raps there is something to OTX, and he sent a mocked-up clone to do his duties. I wouldn’t imagine a mocked-up clone would be any good for more than 20 or 30 minutes…

    • They all went inside and played Laser Tag for hours.

      • Douglas D. Douglas

I would think you would need a big, empty building for the game to be any fun…

    • Juicer77

I was actually surprised – I had bet the speech would be under 10 mins since he was out in the open and relatively close to the pubic. He must have been madder ‘n hell when the helicopters drowned him out in Clearwater, and then the folks in Basel got out the pots and pans. XD

      • Douglas D. Douglas

        “…close to the pubic.”

You know something we don’t know…?

        • Juicer77

LOL I type fast, and not necessarily accurately. I’ll leave it there just for the giggles. XD

    • BeezleBobby

      “Short appearance.”

  • valshifter

What is scientology cooking really in Colombia? Being as self served as they are, I guess they expect to make a big push on drugs and try to sell lot s of purif packages, but at 33K per package I dour it’ll fly, other than that they won’t sell the bridge above book one auditing, no money, very few whales mainly telenovelas actors, no major tycoons or business mens which themselves are corrupt, and takes one to know one, they know what scientology is about, and wait when people learn about disconection where blood is thicker than water, that is no go. It won’t go past of being a mere American cult, with a few adherents just to keep the name rolling, but that is that.

    • Juicer77

Hmmm…. I doubt if they’d be dumb enough to try and set up rehabs in a country whose economy depends so heavily on a thriving drug trade. Talk about painting a bullseye on your forehead!

      • romanesco

Maybe they’re planning on telling the cocaine producers the truth about Narconon’s abysmally low success rate and charging them to keep people addicted.

        • Juicer77

That’s diabolical enough to be plausible. And if they throw in a little kickback to the cartels, everyone wins!

    • Snake Plissken

Nobody in Columbia is going to pay $33K for their quackery when the average monthly salary is $692. They are pushing into South America, Eastern Europe, and Asia for slave labor. Their cult is growing old and nobody in the English speaking part of the world wants anything to do with them or their fake navy

      • M from Toronto

I agree entirely. They’ll have a job on their hands competing with Santa Muerte anywhere in South America, so I suppose they’ll be fishing from the same waters (ahem) as the Evangelicals.

        • Cosmo Pidgeon

          That also.

    • PerpetualOutflow

Well said Valshifter. I was wondering the same things.

    • Cosmo Pidgeon

They may have hopes of getting into the politics of the nation where a government likes to have control and minimize insurrection and upstart drug cartels. The purif doesn’t cost 33k, Narconon does.

  • flyonthewall

Hey the Pope is in Ecuador! Jimmy, you’re Catholic, why don’t you ask him to address this Scientology business in neighboring Colombia? He will listen to you, I know it

    • Jimmy3

When I was confirmed they gave me a different Pope’s cell number. Sorry, bro.

      • flyonthewall

Dang. Hey do you remember your confirmation name? i picked Wolfgang bc I thought it sounded funny

        • SP Wogsy

Ok, I’ll take the bait. I picked Gabriel, because…

          • flyonthewall

            it’s androgynous?

            • SP Wogsy

I guess. If I had my choice, I would have skipped the confirmation, but my mom wanted me to have a Sweet 15/Sweet16, so I got confirmed. Shortly after the party, I told her I wasn’t Catholic. I’m slowly making my pilgrimage back to Catholicism….slowly. Lol.

            • flyonthewall

u have to be Catholic to have a sweet 16 party?

            • SP Wogsy

Well, I had a Sweet 15/16 lol. It was a late Quincenera, because initially I didn’t want one, but my mom begged me, so I caved in last minute. I still wore a pink dress.

            • Robert Hammond

              It’s in John 3:16

            • M from Toronto

I plan all of my party behaviour around Austin 3:16. That way, I avoid the ‘Sweet’ part. 😉

            • Jimmy3

What a great time to announce that you are not Catholic. Right after you’ve been confirmed Catholic. Stick it to the man, stick it to the man.

            • SP Wogsy

              It was a rebellious phase.

            • L. Wrong Hubturd

Going back? Wha? Who goes back?

            • SP Wogsy

              Wha? Who? Where?

            • flyonthewall

I had enough religion for 2 lifetimes. I was born Catholic then converted to Islam. Now I just have to try Judaism for awhile and I’ll have covered all the Abrahamic traditions.

              PS – I don’t practice anything now.

            • SP Wogsy

My cousin was raised Catholic, and is 200% Jewish now. He types in Hebrew on FB. I’m like what?

            • flyonthewall

He’s doing it backward. The proper path is Judaism, Catholicism, Islam, Athiest

            • flyonthewall

so like thnx for the party bitch guess what I ain’t goin to church no more! sucka!

            • SP Wogsy

              Like a pimp.

            • Todd Tomorrow

Here I’ll help. Lets take on something current.

              A christmas wedding : )

            • Todd Tomorrow

              I am a good catch.

            • SP Wogsy

Oh, my bad, I didn’t watch the video, but I will give you the benefit of the doubt : )

            • Enturbulated Masterbator

              Brilliant!

        • Jimmy3

          Joseph. It’s not very funny.

          • aquaclara

            Good for you. Nice.

        • Hmm. In a few years, it’ll be interesting to find out which parents named their kids for Game of Thrones characters. It’ll be a break from all the usual soap opera ones.

        • Cosmo Pidgeon

I picked Paul because I liked the story of his conversion to Christianity but most of the boys in my class picked Barnabas because of Dark Shadows on TV.

    • Missionary Kid

Interesting how the micro-pope draws a crowd befitting his status.

Compare that with the real Pope’s crowds.

  • Tony implemented a nap tech 6 hours ago. That’s a long ass nap.

    • aquaclara

The rest is called his 4th of July vacation!

    • Todd Tomorrow

      Good for him!

      • SP Wogsy

        Yes! He deserves it!

    • SP Wogsy

I worked out to help increase my energy. Didn’t help. I’m listening to Sarah Brightman, and I’m about to implement that nap tech right now.

    • Jimmy3

No way that guy is sleeping right now. That idea is as bullshit as a Star Magazine exclusive. He posted like an hour after he said he was napping. lols

      • scottmercer

Well even if he is asleep, he’ll be awake in five hours to do the new post 😉

    • Snake Plissken

He going to need to get sec checked to find out what crimes he committed that are causing him to sleep everyday instead of using those hours to save the planet

      • I dunno, bro. Tony’s naps are legendary in their shortness. Even OSA Internet brigade goes WTF? about his power naps and most of them barely ever sleep.

        • Snake Plissken

Maybe he flew out to Nashville to interview Tom Cruise about his departure from Scientology

        • SP Wogsy

Right??? Lol. He must have a clone.

  • Huh. Here’s an entertaining thought:

Imagine all Tom Cruise’s movies if they were recast by Tom Cruise playing Les Grossman. Someday it will be possible with a click.

    Improvement or not? F5

  • Holyy shit! Smurf dug out this vid of Chris Shelton in his Sea Org uniform!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=37&v=sAvlOtzkAD0

    • L. Wrong Hubturd

Actually, he doesn’t look too bad for long time Sea Org.

      • SP Wogsy

        He looks so Chris Sheltony.

      • Looks like a pilot.

        • L. Wrong Hubturd

Yes he does. This is your pilot, Captain Critical Thinker. Our flight today will be a long one, with possible bouts of enturbulance. Hang on and enjoy the ride.

    • Snake Plissken

Poor Chris he probably thought he could get away without being seen in one of those goofy ass navy costumes, and then Smurf digs this up.

    • flyonthewall

I want Chris to give me a face ripping SRA. I don’t think I could stop from busting up. YOU WILL THINK CRITICALLY YOU SCUM FUCK ASSHOLE!!! DO YOU HEAR ME!!?? THINK FOR YOURSELF YOU LITTLE C&^%SUCKER!!!

      • Lol Chris probably wasnt like that in SO, one of the reasons he is out, I would imagine.

    • aquaclara

      He looks so pale.

    • Couch_Incident

His example shows us that change is possible.

    • Todd Tomorrow

It’s on one of Chris’s vids. Filmed by anon. Wouldn’t that rope make it easier for a real military gut just put it around a Sea Argghs’s neck. I think he is pale do the cold of Minnesota.

      • Missionary Kid

It’s not a rope, but a chain. I don’t know of a military that uses a chain. It looks like the type used by bikers to hold on to their wallets.

    • beauty for ashes

I feel bad watching it. Would Chris be embarrassed of this?

      • SP Wogsy

I think he has it on his YT channel no? This is not the first time I have seen this. I remember watching this in one of his earlier videos.

      • I dont think so. He is a great guy with a great sense of humor.

      • Frodis73

I don’t think he is…he actually talks about this in one of his Q&A vids or on his blog. Somebody asked what he was thinking as they were filming him. I don’t remember his answer exactly, but he was hoping they didn’t get too confrontational. I wish I remembered exactly where it was because his answer was interesting. Chris rocks and is proof you can get out.

        • L. Wrong Hubturd

Hey, you’re alive! How ya feelin’ today?

          • Frodis73

Yes, I wasn’t too bad. I only had 3 beers…I don’t drink much anymore, so I’m a cheap date these days. Lol. I emailed you back though. You’re the best for thinking of me.

      • Simi Valley

No, Chris liked that vid on fb.

    • ShevilKat

Poor guy looks like he would enjoy a burrito or five.

      • Mockingbird

I remember resorting to stealing food while staying in Sea Org berthing . If I knew the truth I would have taken more food and left much sooner .

        • I remember some staff members stealing food from the fridge from other staff in my org. But then the org went ideal and there were not much staff left to steal the food from.

          • Mockingbird

Having to steal food and stay in free berthing because you have no money is not my “ideal” anything .

    • Mockingbird

I have compromising footage of Smurf to expose .

Anybody got a good quality picture of DM from the grand opening ?

  • Snake Plissken

This is like a commercial for Dianetics except it’s from the 1930s

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se8yECEKjI4

    • flyonthewall

I love this but did they even have tv in the 30’s?

      • Snake Plissken

I know it says it’s a TV commercial but it’s not a TV commercial it’s one of the commercials they used to show at the movie theaters between features

        • flyonthewall

I don’t think they had movies either. Pretty sure it was still puppet shows until the 40’s

          • scottmercer

            Snark.

  • Frodis73

I had an interesting conversation last night with a friend of mine. His father was in a well known cult for many years. When I first found this out 20 years ago I was dying to ask questions but the topic was off limits…he just wasn’t ready to talk about it. Well, a book came out about that cult recently and the author spoke with my friend in depth and he shared a lot of stuff with me last night. It was shocking. Most shocking (but not really knowing what we know) was that he admitted he (and his dad) are still fucked up and not over it to this day. Now keep in mind my friend was never in the cult, his mom saved him from that fate…his dad tried to kidnap them at one point to bring them to the farm. It’s just amazing the damage cults do to people…including non members. I’m so happy that my friend is at a point where he feels he can talk about it now though…I think (and hope) that it is helping him. He and his father do have a relationship and he even plays drums for him at some of his gigs.
It was an incredibly emotional and revealing evening for not just the cult stuff, but other reasons. I thought that hearing from a kid that wasn’t even a member admitting to just how much it screwed him up was quite interesting though and I figured you guys would be interested in hearing a bit about it.

        • flyonthewall

          interesting

          • Frodis73

If you’re into guitar players there are tons of vids of him on youtube. Search under either Schwartz Brothers or Glen Schwartz. He is *amazing* live…mind blowing some nights. You may also get a lot of Jesus lectures between (hell, even in the middle of a song) songs. He’s still quite a fanatic born again. Huge talent though.

            • flyonthewall

That’s too bad, all the best bands are affiliated with satan.

            • Frodis73

              Lol. He’s the exception. 😀

  • Robert Ramsay

“With entrance rates beginning to drop in North America their bid for new recruits have turned their focus to developing countries.” Sounds very similar to the tobacco companies. 🙂

  • Have to share the UK Sun’s headline today

    pic

[reference is to a phrase that became famous by Alex Ferguson, manager of Manchester Utd who said ‘squeeky bum time” when explaining the crucial last games of a season when all the top teams were close on points]

    • Wrong blog, bro.

      • explain

        • what am I missing

          • given the plethora of topics that hit the Bunker late at night I’m confused as to why you would comment “Wrong blog, bro”, hence I’m asking you to explain.

            • Oh. I didn’t see O/T warning and was trying to be humorous too.

            • “Wrong blog, bro” didn’t really strike me as particularly funny…. but lets forget about

            • Is that a bad meme? I am sorry if so.

            • no worries…. “Wrong blog, bro” is pretty much the same as “cool story bro” which is a standard reply to a troll

            • yeah, thought so, no worries

            • flyonthewall

Hey you know what? I have this neighbor who use to walk his dog around our block and past my house everyday. I only ever said polite hellos to him before and complimented him on his nice looking dogs. Recently, we ran into each other and I had an opportunity to meet him and his dogs. Well, when I went to pet one of his dogs it kinda bit me. It wasn’t a hard bite, just like a nervous nip. Well the guy freaked out and was all “why’d you do that!” to the dog and grabbed his snout and shook it hard back and forth then he freakin’ kicked it hard in the belly!.

I was shocked and embarrassed but didn’t say anything except it wasn’t a big deal, I’m ok etc. Well this guy never walked his dogs around our block again and instead walks them around the block across the street. I feel sorry for his dogs bc if he would do that in front of a stranger, what is he going to do in the privacy of his home? Yu just never know with some people, he seemed like a nice, normal person

            • romanesco

Wow. No wonder the dog was nervous. I hate situations like that because there’s really nothing you can do. I just keep worrying and trying to think of a solution.

Lush, I wonder what this was all about yesterday at the Celebrity Centre? Is the search heating up for Tom’s 4th wife? Or maybe he needs a date to the MI:5 premiere? LOL

They were shooting on the 4th of July, with one day’s notice. Sounds very odd, and very much like what you said.

  • Gus_Cox

Looks like a pretty weak turnout, as usual. I wonder if Miscavige was able to score a few choice blunts for His twin sister? Since He was in Colombia and all…

  • valshifter

The stage with the flag s and the cross was made to look like one of those man powered floats the Catholic s use for Easter in those countries, coincidence? I bet it was designed on purpose to give it a religious connotation, instead of “santo nino” they have miscavige in the middle which is almost the same size as “santo nino” leave it to scientology to disguise things better than a chameleon.

WoW. I’d left for work just as the party was a-startin’… missed everything. Ah… then just now, read through the day’s event… whew! So interesting this damn thing Hubbard created —- holy crap. C.R.A.P. ! !! !!!
I really gotta say, sometimes, sometimes I have a very hard time seeing this organization at work.
Miscavige machinations. Filthy fake fronts. It hurts something inside me.
Hard to take. Bullshit cannot win. It will continue to be exposed for what it is. Period.

Good job to the person on the ground & to TO too, of course, my dear newspaper man, always vigilant.
    Good Job. AGAIN! Yes.
And now to sort by best & check it all out the commentary.
Good evening to the the whole of the bunker.
Stay calm. Stay safe. Stay strong people.

Such a gorgeous photo. Owls are amazing. Good luck catching up!

Hard to believe Makemerich travels so far for such a non-event… but I guess he has to keep up this farce about being ‘too busy’ for depositions, right?
