Police in Bangladesh say they had no choice but to open fire on demonstrators who were threatening their lives. Four people were killed in shooting by the police, and many others were injured, photos posted by CNN show.
But it’s what generated the angry mob that is getting the most attention. A Facebook post described as criticizing Islam’s prophet Muhammad and his daughter, Fatima, sent Muslims into a rage Sunday. The person who posted the offending item told police he was hacked.
News organizations are being careful not to show or even describe what was in the post, but it was provocative enough to set off the rampaging crowd in the town of Borhanuddin.
“We had to fire, we had no options,” a police official said.
