Tony Ortega is a journalist who was formerly the editor of The Village Voice. He's written about Scientology since 1995, and in May 2015 released a book about Scientology's harassment of Paulette Cooper titled 'The Unbreakable Miss Lovely.' In homophobic Scientology, you are required to write up your sins or else

Sunny Pereira was going through some old things recently when she came upon a bit of a goldmine — some handwritten letters she had been required to pen while she was being punished in Scientology’s ‘Sea Org.’ We asked her to explain the significance of one forced confessional letter which we found particularly striking.

Scientology’s street theater in New York: A bid to head off a 4th ‘Aftermath’ season?

Leah Remini’s A&E series, Scientology and the Aftermath, concluded its third season on February 5. In past years, we’ve heard about her show being renewed about a month after a season finale, so we don’t expect word to arrive about a possible fourth season of the show for some time yet. But Scientology appears to be pulling out all the stops to persuade A&E not to give Leah another round.

Thinking of leaving Scientology? Jefferson Hawkins has your roadmap.

Former Scientology executive Jefferson Hawkins penned one of the best first-person accounts of the Scientology experience in his book ‘Counterfeit Dreams.’ But we don’t want people to forget that he also provided a major service by writing a book aimed directly at other Scientologists who might have doubts about the organization. Today, we have an excerpt from that roadmap out of the madness, ‘Leaving Scientology.’

USC: SCIENTOLOGY FAKED LETTER FROM PROFESSOR TO DISNEY, PROBE OPENED

[Scientology leader David Miscavige has some explaining to do to Rev. Dr. Chip Murray]

We’ve told you that Scientology’s “grass roots” effort it calls the “STAND League” is a fake. But even we were stunned when we learned that Scientology’s astroturf attack on Leah Remini’s A&E series has allegedly engaged in an outright fraud that has a major American university launching an investigation.

Scientology’s social media effort tries so hard to distract you from what’s really going on

Scientology is pumping out more propaganda than ever, not only with its DirecTV channel, but also with a steady stream of social media that must be costing the church a fortune to operate.
