Jehovah’s Witnesses leaders used to condemn televangelists. Now they want to be TV stars.

 
Ex-JW activist Lloyd Evans put out a new video today that looks like all kinds of fun.

In the 1980s, Jehovah’s Witnesses considered televangelists to be “materialistic charlatans” who had forsaken “true Christian ministry” for the glare of the spotlights. By 2014, they had set up their own broadcasting operation and recently unveiled plans for a media production center to be completed in 2026. With the help of a forgotten leaked video, I chart the organization’s slide into becoming what it once condemned.
