There’s not a lot of information about this new discovery in Egypt, but we still love this kind of stuff.
The BBC says that 20 ancient coffins have been found near the River Nile, and that more details would be coming this weekend.
The coffins are brightly painted, and one set is sitting on top of another. As for their date, the story suggested two very different possibilities:
Most of the tombs at Asasif, which is close to the Valley of the Kings, are from the Late Period (664-332BC) of ancient Egypt.
AdvertisementHowever, there are also tombs from the earlier 18th Dynasty (1550-1292BC), which was the first of the New Kingdom and included the famous pharaohs Ahmose, Hatshepsut, Thutmose III, Amenhotep III, Akhenaton and Tutankhamun.
Do we have any Egyptologists in the house who might weigh in on that and speculate about which era this find belongs to?
It’s amazing to think that a find this large was still waiting to be discovered.
