One thing that’s driven me nuts is hearing commenters game out impeachment to the conclusion that “the senate won’t convict so why bother?” as if each of the steps that lead to that are (a) a certainty; (b) administratively routine; and (c) without averse political consequence for the GOP.
Whether or not the senate ultimately convicts and removes Trump from office, it’s vital that they be forced to go on the record with that decision after all the ugly facts are displayed. There’s a good reason Mitch McConnell kills so many bills without bringing those bills to a vote — those bills might pass if they were fairly debated.
There’s also a ton to be said simply for being on the right side of history and the paucity of Trump surrogates on Sunday morning news TV may suggest which way the wind is blowing.

Whistleblowers are now tripping over each other to testify in support of whistleblower #1, making it progressively harder for the GOP to sell it as a partisan dispute, and forcing them to adopt riskier, more conspiratorial language (OUT: “partisan,” IN: “deep state.”) to defend Trump.
