The impeachment will be imperiled if Dems actually pay attention to GOP clowning

Attorney Scott Pilutik wrestles with the news of the day, from a lawyerly perspective…

[Regarding this story: This Impeachment Won’t Be a Legal or Political Battle. It Will Be an Information War]

Everything Dahlia Lithwick writes here is spot-on, but I’m reminded of the words of many coaches I’ve had through life, and that’s to clear your head about what you think and fear the other team is doing and play your game. If you let your opponent take residency in your brain you’re halfway to defeat.

That doesn’t mean to pay no mind to what the other team is doing, because sports involves reacting and countering as much dictating pace and terms.

Keeping with the hokey George Will-ish metaphors, when you’re up you press your advantage until the clock runs out. Right now, that means mostly ignoring that the other team have changed out of their uniforms and into angry clown costumes, flinging shit into the crowd and coaxing the referee to call a forfeit.

Focus on the real-world finish line. Counter the bad faith arguments. Explain to people what has actually happened. Occasionally stop to marvel at the clowns but don’t take your eye off the ball.
