This time of year, campers, we spend considerable time on our excursions outside our underground hidey hole in long walks in the woods looking for fungus.
It’s an amazingly relaxing way to take advantage of the fall weather, although this year, with a lack of much rain, our fungal foraging has been a bit lacking. We’ve had to go on long treks into the woods to find much this year.
But then, on a long ride through some backwoods territory this morning, we happened to spot the mother of all puffball mushrooms just off the side of the road.

Is that a beauty or what?
And if you’re wondering, yes, it fit nicely in our fancy red Ortlieb bag.
Do we have any mycologists in the house?
Anyone have any good puffball recipes they want share?
