Anne shattering suppression: “Do I look brainwashed to you?”

“You know Anne Archer — she was nominated for an Oscar for Fatal Attraction as the cheated-on wife,” wrote Roger Friedman, who often skewers celebrities for their Scientology connection. “She had a good run on Falcon Crest in the 80s. Her mother was Marjorie Lord, who played Danny Thomas’s wife on Make Room for Daddy.”

Friedman managed to pull Anne aside after a Broadway performance of the play Three Tall Women. What, Roger asked, did Anne think about Leah Remini’s series about Scientology?

“Without hesitation she said, ‘I don’t know anything about it. I don’t really watch network TV.’ So I thought, hmmmm, maybe she means King of Queens or Kevin Can’t Wait. So I said, ‘No I mean her cable series…’ She shook her head. ‘No,’ she said, with a twinkle in her eye. She shrugged. ‘I did like The Crown, and have you seen Berlin Station? We really like that.’ And that was it.”

As Roger demonstrated, Anne doesn’t rattle easy — except, famously, for the time that John Sweeney, interviewing her for his 2007 BBC documentary about Scientology, asked her about brainwashing.

“Do I look brainwashed to you?” she retorted, looking, in fact, like her frontal lobe had been through the rinse cycle.

Archer is among those our Celebrity Centre source says is a “Bitter Ender,” someone who has completely bought in to the Hubbard way of thinking and won’t be defecting any time soon.

Says our source: “She’ll never leave — she and her husband, [TV executive] Terry Jastrow. She’s comfortable in it, she’s older. And I think she’s happy with what they think of as an idyllic life. And they’re treated like royalty.”
