Not 7 years everywhere. In California charges must be filed within 10 years of the child’s 18th birthday. This means charges can be filed until the victim turns 29 years old. However, there is another way to legally file charges after this 10-year statute of limitations has expired. California allows perpetrators to be prosecuted within one year of when the crime was reported to police regardless of when the crime was committed. This law essentially makes the statute of limitations for child molestation moot. However, this does not mean that all allegations can be charged at any time. For this exception to apply, the following requirements must be met: The crime must have involved substantial sexual conduct, AND there must be independent evidence that supports the victim’s claims. Under California law, “substantial sexual conduct” is any sexual act with a minor that involves vaginal or anal penetration as well as oral sex acts. Google for the law in your State.

Child molesters never stop. I have a family member who was active in his 70’s. Happily he’s dead now.

NO NO NO…NOT YOUR FAULT…..I worked for CPS for many years…THAT is the one thing ALL children think….that a CHILD has the power over an adult who is victimizing them. FEAR is a GREAT intimidator…..it keeps “the secret” between the perpetrator and the victim. Fear of being killed, or having the threat of their mother and siblings killed if the child victim “tells”. Fear of losing the “love” of the sexual predator…as in “Well, if I don’t let him do this to me, he won’t love me anymore”……

The perpetrator KNOWS all the angles, including how to get the parents to trust them to be alone with the child victim. He knows what words to use, how to behave within the confines of the view of other adults so they think he’s perfectly safe for their child to be around.

I have been in COURT where a child will TELL what happened to them, and they STILL want to go back to their home or near the location where the abuser lives…rather then be sent to live with strangers in a foster home.

NOT YOUR FAULT…..YOU ARE A VICTIM of a sexual predator. That is one thing you need to know…..that is why counseling might help you see. Kids don’t WANT to tell because “it might hurt the relationship between their parents and the perpetrator….Or worst of the worst…”No one will BELIEVE them…..Fear Fear Fear is what keeps sexual abuse a secret. The anger boils up inside the victim and some victims will harm themselves or lash out at others in frustration.

Girls as well as boys get sexually assaulted every day….it’s been going on for decades and it will never end, BUT the LAWS must change…..the Statute of Limitations must be REMOVED so that a now adult who was sexually assaulted as a child can press charges. as it’s abuser.

The child abuse hotline may be able to refer you for some counseling….PLEASE DEAR ONE….Call them 1 800 4 ACHILD…..

Thank you. Its true, it was my fault and perhaps always will be. I could have yelled out and said No! but I’m not going to blame that on Scientology. I blame it only on me. It is a lesson to be learned.

When a child is molested it is NOT THEIR FAULT. Children often carry that burden into adulthood, that THEY “let it happen”….”that they could have stopped it”….not true. What is important to remember is that children are VICTIMS of someone else’s predatory behavior. That’s the bitter pill to have to swallow is kids are innocent victims who always blame THEMSELVES for being victimized sexually by someone.

Contact your local County Health Center who might offer counseling on a sliding scale based on income, Local churches also might offer counseling for free.
Tigger, I really do care about you, what you’ve endured is unfathomable, you can begin to heal with some help. You are very strong, stronger than you know. As I said, one can chose to forgive, but forgetting, that never happens. We can place the damage done to our psyche farther back in our minds, but anything can set it off, a certain song, an odor, a place, a color or seeing the perpetrator.
