I suspect the NOI presence in the city has a lot to do with the decision. It will be interesting to see if they do something like establishing a mission in the suburbs when they move, though that could only provide limited services to more advanced long-term members.

According to Bugliosi’s book, Manson identified his religious preference as “scientologist” when he was arrested (NOT for the final time but a few years before) and had an auditor in prison (Bugliosi names that auditor but I don’t have the reference handy).

I concur with you: He did not remain in the cult; why would he if it already had an evil leader. Might as well start his own…

On a side note: Considering how many people have been declared for “crimes” as heinous as watching Dancing with the Stars when Leah was on, what will it take for the cult to declare Manson SP? Technically, he’s a scientologist in good standing to this day.

FYI: His first lawyer, Paul J Fitzgerald, told my friend that Manson told him that he had gone into the LA org and had taken the comm course. He also read a couple of books, and Manson told his lawyer he then realized he was already clear n OT. Manson did not have anything further to do with Scn. Aloha

So I finished reading the affidavit and article on her story then also the young lady Tammy who was also mentioned and part of that class action lawsuit.

Scientology was not always sexually repressive. In the early days, it seems to have partook of the ‘free love’ thing. Hubbard put himself about among adults, when he had the opportunity (which was likely often).

Hubbard was many nasty things – but there is no evidence of paedophilia. OK – that kind of thing tends to stay undercover, especially back then. Still… there is no reason to suspect that of him. We should not go beyond what we know. Let’s leave propaganda to the CofS.
