I’m so sorry you had to endure so much, pluvo. Detaining someone on a ship is tantamount to holding you hostage, except they do it out in international waters to avoid prosecution. Horrible and disgusting beyond words. I hope you are in a much better place now. Hugs to you…

It is actually psycho terror, when I think about it.

BTW, I was in Scn (13 years Sea Org, on the Freewinds), so I have some reality about it. I didn’t have such bad experience with such a long interrogation but I certainly know how it is when one’s mind gets tampered with.

After a ludicrous incident and I was taken of post without any explanation and escorted by a security guard to the engine room to do manual labor for months as a punishment, I got also asked/interrogated about my ‘crimes’. I was treated like a dangerous criminal and was under constant surveillance.

After I had said that I wanted to leave, I was 15 months detained to the Ship. I was mentally but a shadow of my former self when I left and had to decompress for years and unravel the indoctrination.

You are not alone!! There are other people who experienced this or similar and they can understand the mind-fuck that can happen.

Rather than tearing down someone’s story or trying to negate their experience, I believe it’s more important that we support them and encourage anyone else who may be watching, listening or reading this to speak up themselves. If my story, however small or insignificant it may be, can resonate with someone else and gives them the strength to find their own voice and talk about their experience…then i consider it worth the personal risk I’m taking by being so open and honest. I did read about those horrible teenagers who laughed at the drowning man rather than calling for help. Your comparison is terrific. Sad but true. Surviving a cult experience, at any level or length of time, is significant and needs to be acknowledged. I will hold my hand out to anyone who wants to talk.

You’re right, I did not have a close relationship with my mother. As you can imagine, as I got older and the abuse continued, I distanced myself emotionally from her even further. Scientology offered me a way out of a house in which I felt invisible and was reminded almost daily that I was unlovable. Of course I had no idea what they were really offering me was an escape, but into their own captivity.
