One day we shall meet! My mom and dad lived on Long Island, and then moved to Bainbridge, NY…….about 35 minutes outside of Binghampton,NY……DK too much other than Sidney, Oneonta, Deposit, Afton….a few other small towns!

Oh my goodness…I am blushing! The way I look at things is IF you can DO anything to help someone in need, or give them emotional support/love DO SO! I am sick & tired of the “one upmanship” people who care only about themselves & love to brag about their newest purchase/vacation/conquest. Not everyone has it so good so modesty is best!

I live in Northeast PA, born in Brooklyn, NY later raised on Long Island. I’ve seen & heard it all through different jobs I’ve held. There is such heart break out there & people often don’t realize how truly lucky we are.

So PROUD of you that you got that Elder Care Attorney…GOT to have mom thoroughly evaluated ON RECORD to show what she is capable of….minor assistance with life needs is to be expected as we age. My mom was 81 yrs old when Alzheimer’s reared it’s ugly head…the last 6 years of her life were up and down roller coaster with me along for the ride. I am thankful at least one of her three children were able to do it ALL for her. My brothers were no help at all.

Getting Mama some in home assistance can be a God send, and there are some services available if you look…try the internet ELDER CARE LOCATOR…a website that will show you different resources. Again the hospital social worker will also be of assistance. Some Nursing Homes have Adult Day Care available for a fee…so if you THINK at any time “OMG, I need a few hours break”…that is another option. Spending a few dollars to KEEP your sanity (or what’s left of it was I always say, lol)…will really help keep YOU grounded.

KEEP RECEIPTS…anything you spend on her behalf is a good idea to protect yourself…the Elder Care Atty may ask for her bank records too….making sure no one is helping themselves to what is HERS ….& to prove that 5 year look back. I brought in my mom’s bank statements every month for them to copy.

The Atty and his Legal Asst said to me “OMG YOU Keep such good records”….I told them “I am NOT going to prison over a few thousand dollars”……they laughed!

Oh my goodness, I know she didn’t get that wound while under your watch! People in nursing homes get bed sores all the time, even when they are turned often. No matter how careful one can be things happen.
Wound care can be quite trying, wounds can be stubborn little buggers. My mom was always getting UTI’s…no matte how often she was taken to the toilet or had her adult diaper changed….just something that happens.
Hopefully in time the wound will heal and she will be doing much better. You are a very loving & caring of her, and that’s what matters!

Whaddaya mean “go back to work”….You ARE working! Full time care of an ill family member is draining & time consuming. I recall those days as well, not easy. My mom could be alone for a few hours while I went to work (I cut my hours in half, a huge financial drain on us)…., but more than that she would have a major anxiety attack & soon it became impossible to have her continue to live with me as she was not safe as she was having memory issues etc.
Do what you are doing, calling around as many agencies as you can including any local politicians to see if you can get any other resources. Call the local nursing home & see if they might have some type of Adult Day Care a few hours a day if YOU need a ME day.

Hello dear friend! Doing ok….why complain, right? How are you doing my BFF and how is Mama coming along? I know it’s a long & difficult journey, yet in hindsight, would you have it any other way? When and IF it comes time to seek outside services for her care, you WILL know it & will willingly accept the help. It’s about the well being of thet BOTH of you that counts. All my love!

You certainly are onto something. Fox has millions of viewers and in a couple books Ari Rabin-Havt really addresses the history of Fox news and right wing talk radio stations and how they influence other media too. I enjoyed The Fox Effect and Lies, Incorporated.

The group Media Matters that you can follow on Facebook has excellent stories as well.

I know the laws and applications vary wildly between countries. To avoid any abuse, preferences or favorites a system that has no religious elements in determining charitable status might be better. A religious group could still be a charity, but would only be judged as a charity.
