You are right in considering “primitive tribal times.” We are still left with many psychological characteristics from the stone age. One of those is the rewards we get from attention. Why? Attention over time builds up to status, and among such peoples a certain amount of status is required for men to become attractive to women. So it is not surprising that we get a rush of dopamine and endorphin from focused attention. That what the cult sells no matter what they call it.

I should add that psychoanalysis sells the exact same thing. We know from scientific studies that analysis doesn’t help people, but some shell out big bucks for it. Again, what they are actually buying is attention.

It turns out drug addiction activates the same brain reward circuits. Addictive drugs such as cocaine and heroin have the same effect as dopamine and endorphin. I am very much indebted for this insight to three women over a 25 year span. Two of them not named for good reasons, one named in the article you can find when you put sex drugs cults in Google. Not sure where you’re located or if you get out to Los Angeles often/ever, but Lithuania Days was such a cool experience! Lots of Eastern Europeans go (I was brought by a Romanian friend) and had a blast!

Plus it was crazy seeing my family’s unique red or auburn/brown curly hair w/olive coloring (Dad’s siblings are all tan redheads) and amber hazel eyes EVERYwhere! All 4 of us siblings get told we have such a “unique Mediterranean look” that people can’t place, but anytime I’ve met someone from Eastern Europe, they recognize it as Lithuanian straightaway.

During the late 80’s to the early 2000’s i lived in scientology’s clearwater bubble. I had many relationships with this “wealthy” group you are talking about. Friendships, business dealings, and general hobnobbing. One of the reasons these people are “one hit wonders” is that after “making it big” they tend to go off to Flag for “full time training” and “going up the bridge.” They take themselves out of the “continuing to work hard” group of wealthy because they now devote 100% of their time to the Bubble. Furthermore, now convinced “they are OT,” they a) think they can make it even bigger devoting a minute fraction of time and effort into whatever scheme they have for growing richer b) delegate management to whatever businesses they still own, usually the one that made them rich in the first place, to others. Usually such others are “Admin Tech” or FEBC wonderkins who then proceed to drive their previously successful business right into the shitter. c) make large investments with glib talking con artists they meet hanging around the L’s HGC or wherever, only to lose all such capital within a short period of time.

If scientology was a stock, I would certainly be a short-seller.
