Sine, you’re my soulmate!! You, too, suffer insomnia?! I feel like the last person on teegeeack who’s awake every single night! Sigh. I have meds, but my mind will race right through them—and I get the good meds!

And no, it’s not lame when you have insomnia, and that has to work around your schedule. I stopped my allergy shots because if it! Not like that’s the same, but you get the idea.

There’s nothing wrong with ECT. I got Graves’ Disease (hyperthyroidism) after my son was born, and I have to get that under control. I was going to do ECT, but then this happened.

It’s still quite common and very effective, especially to those who are medication resistant. Stupid cos saying they’re doing it to kids, making it sound like the last scene in “Cuckoo’s Nest”, making it seemed forced, further stigmatizing an already stigmatized disease(s) is beyond disgusting. “Matt! Matt, Matt, Matt, you’re glib; you’re glib, Matt!” Wonder if high school dropout Tommy knows what glib means?

I hope you feel better. My heart goes out to you. Atlanta is a lovely city, though, and I’m jealous of you. I’m stuck in Seattle, trying to work on my marriage. Talk about insult to injury!

No, I did not do the ECT. Here’s why: I, a depressed night person living on one end of traffic snarled Metro Atlanta, would have had to have driven thrice a week to the other side of Atlanta for at least two or three weeks to arrive by 8 AM for outpatient ECT sessions. I would have had to have been up by 6 AM. I know this is lame, but I can’t do that. Not unless it’s for paid work. So, I’ve just stayed on my meds, and I’m muddling through. My sense of humor, dark though it may be, is my best ally, but I think the medication helps too. If I ever find a place that does afternoon ECT, though, I may give it a shot. It’s nothing like it was portrayed in “Cuckoo’s Nest (as you said) and is effective for many who are not helped by antidepressants.

It irks me a bit how ECT is always portrayed as the “last resort” treatment option for depression, when it probably ought to be tried much sooner for some who are seriously depressed. I do think the Scilons have done a lot to stigmatize it though, scaring away many people.

Anyway, don’t feel badly about taking Paxil or whatever your M.D. recommends if it helps. Please. We have got to do something about getting rid of this mental illness stigma. It prevents too many people from getting effective treatment. Sigh.

Oh wow! I know a lot of people who were in place a lot of hope based on what they thought she’d do or whatever. It sounds like she was a voice of reason at times, yet I still can’t get over how she handled things with her daughter so I’m curious about if we’ll ever end up hearing her tell her story.

Thank you, OOkpik! I’ve told ALL of my sad stories on here, as if this is a support group! I just love the people on here, hate the cos stance on psychiatry, and want to reach out to those affected by this cult. My heart breaks every time I read a story or a comment on here about the abuses of this cult. I do hope that by lil’ ol’ me speaking up, someone else may get the courage they need to get help, speak out, speak up, anything!
